Tell me why Krispy Kreme donuts are so popular

I’m told people line up to buy these donuts. Having never seen (much less eaten) one, please tell me what makes these donuts so special. What, do they put crack/nicotine/caffeine (insert your addictive drug of choice here) in them or something?

Baglady -

So far as I can tell, the real appeal of Krispy Kremes is that you can ::gasp:: see them being made*.

Other than that, I dunno. I’ve had them 2 or 3 times, and frankly, I wasn’t that impressed. They’re smaller than your average donut, and taste the same.

I’m sure I’ll be taken as a Philistine[sp?] for this…

Apparently, I am not only a Philistine who cannot spell, I am an idiot who cannot code.

Oh well.

OMG, I would kill for Krispy Kreme Glazed doughnuts. Talk about perfection, nice chewy dough, sweet glaze that melts in your mouth (If it’s had time to dry some, but fresh warm glaze, mmmmmmmmmmm)

And jelly filled doughnuts… It’s a good thing the closest one is 30 mins away or I’d be 300 lbs easy…

They’re very light, have a good glaze, and are fresh. However, they’re not as good as some might claim (although much better than a Dunkin Donut).

u know i got to try one in may when i went to las vegas, unfortunately i didn’t get tosee them being made but …they taste like regular donughts (sp?) except no mo da puka in da middle. malasadas taste better. i thought they had a creme filling inside 'em but mine didn’t have =(

Check out this thread: I just gorged myself on Krispy Kremes

Part of the Krispy Kreme mystique is hype, I will admit, but they are really pretty good. Much better than most doughnuts I’ve ever had.

The first time I got my hands on one was at Dodger Stadium! They have the busiest concession in the park!

Hubby’s first taste was a Krispy Kreme that was FROZEN SOLID, and it was still the best doughnut he ever tasted!

Plain old cold Krispy Kreme donuts are, at best, ordinary.

What you have to do is go to a KK at 6-11 AM or PM. That’s when they’re making the donuts. Ask for a hot glazed donut fresh out of the fryer. THAT’S where the joy of Krispy Kreme lies. Gooey, steamy, melty, sticky, greasy goodness.

Alliteration. That’s the big secret.

Alliteration causes physiological changes in the brain that make things taste better.

I don’t eat doughnuts or even like them.
I will gorge on Krispy Kremes. They
are to a doughnut what a Rolls Royce
is to a skateboard!

They are the best! Soft, warm, yeasty, with a sweet honey glaze. Yum. When I was a kid growing up in Tennessee, we used to sell them door to door, warm from the oven, to raise money for school. I have a very clear memory of sitting on the front step eating one when I was about six. Baglady, you must try one to understand.

They’re okay, but to me they have sort of a weird aftertaste. Kind of like you get with Little Debbie’s but not as bad.

What I like are those great french egg donuts. The bakery by my house makes them and they are soooo good. This is why I’ve gained 30 pounds since I moved here. That, and the kasekuchen, puddingbrezels and quarktashes.

It is the smell at about 6 in the morning when you drive past the store in downtown Atlanta. Oh my gosh.
