Temp Crown Repair

The temporary crown over my inplant post just fell off. Just yesterday I told the dental hygienist to leave that alone, but she scraped and rubbed and poked, and today it came off. Called the dental office. Closed until Tuesday. I can just leave it out but would prefer for it to be in. What is the most effective way or what is the most effective adhesive I can buy myself that I could use to do a temporary repair.

When I had a crown come off, the dentist told me to just go to the drugstore and get some of the over-the counter temporary fix stuff.

Just go to your local drug store/Walmart… and get something like this:

Which tooth is it on and how securely do you want it to be held? Fine Line Fixodent is good for a quick fix but it’s not going to hold up to any tough use. CVS and other drugstores will have loose filling and cap cements that may be a little stronger but in my experience aren’t really any better. I’d advise not chewing or sleeping with that cap on until the dentist takes care of it.

since you can live with it off I assume it isn’t an anterior tooth and therefore not an aesthetic issue. the real concern isn’t the implant itself but the adjacent and opposing teeth. Some peoples teeth will shift significantly in a couple of days. This would affect the fit of the permanent crown. It is usually always better to have the temporary crown in place. If you are going to replace it first practice putting it in a couple of times, it should only go one way and fairly easily. It should feel comfortable when biting. As TriPolar said, Fixodent works well for smiling and talking but may come off when eating. Just fill about halfway and place it on. The product that Past Tense linked works well and will hold up to eating. It is a bit more technique sensitive. With it just a thin layer in the crown is all that is needed, too much and you may not get the crown seated all the way. That doesn’t usually happen with the Fixodent since it is thinner.

I’ve got a double temp crown sitting where two bicuspids used to be, and at the end of the appointment to make the posts and put on the temp, my dentist said to just use a bit of toothpaste to stick it back in if it came loose.

A quick google makes it sound like that’s as good as buying the special stuff - better actually since you already have it.
