Termites and Trees, A Homeownership MMP

it’s the first week of August and we finally have Spring!

buncha errands today - might go to the park and play with my iPod

We’ve had Spring all summer, rosie. I feel terribly spoiled. It’s barely broken 80 most of June and July and I think we’ve had maybe 2 90+ degree days. Tomorrow is supposed to be 92, but then it’s back to low 80s. I am NOT complaining. (And would be perfectly happy to keep these temperatures pretty much year-round, except for maybe Christmas week.)

Just remembered that the mini-farmer’s market is here and I haven’t been yet, so I ran over there and scored 4 kohlrabi (50 cents apiece seemed like a good deal) and 3 ears of corn. The first ear of corn is beeping at me from the microwave. Guess I better go rescue, shuck and eat it.

Back later…

Hiya!

Back in Paris - that 4AM wake up call on the weekend was not good. Took a 3 hour nap this afternoon and feeling a little better. Off to a seafood place for dinner with a couple of people form work. Tomorrow will be a lazy day of nothing and movie watching - I may go out for lunch depending on how I feel.

Sorry you have to work FCM!

5 more sleeps til HubbyTime!

You know, of all the places one could wait for their S.O. to be available, Paris is pretty close to the top of the list… XD

Got back a little over 30 minutes ago from running my son to the credit union.

I’ve got some clean up chores today, then some friends are coming over this evening to play Wii and chat. We were up until 1:00 this morning playing again last night with some other friends. We’re certainly getting a lot of use out of it, between the Wii Fit and Active Personal trainer workouts, along with the games, which can also be a workout.

I’m going to have a little more coffee and then I’m going to get going on my chores.

Back from the grocery store, where I got quarter pounds of pastrami, corned beef and swiss cheese–think we’ll have maybe reubens tonight (with cole slaw, not saurkraut!).

My back is hurting just a bit … may have done a bit much this week, but that’s okay, just gotta keep it up. I’ve already had a sample sandwich of the pastrami … omg, that stuff is good! I need a drooling smiley for that! I’ve also re-discovered the croc clogs. I have some fake ones that cost me $7 at the Giant grocery store and they are soooo comfortable on my feet that I’ve been wearing them as slippers at home. I see where Payless has some brand called Airwalks and think I’m going to try to score me another couple of pair there. They may not look very stylish, but as long as they’re comfortable I don’t care what they look like!

Getting ready to enjoy my Saturday some more. LOL

Herbs, are you doing some back strengthening exercises? I found that helped tremendously with a lot of the pain I used to experience.

Gotta agree with Moonie, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Paris is an awfully nice place to be rendezvousing (sp?) with hubby.

I know you were wondering how long I’d last out there. Well, about that long. Just got out of the shower. Found some poison ivy next to one of the plants I was trimming, so I figured that was a good time to stop. Hopefully I 1) didn’t touch the poison ivy, or 2) cleaned up in time to avoid the itchies.

I’ma take a few hours’ break to do a bunch of stuff indoors, then it’ll be back out to the garden to do more weeding, stake some 'maters (the ones I started from seed are thriving) and mow.

So…now it’s off to put laundry away and then do some vacuuming and work on the great kitchen clean-out.

Also, I’m still hungry, so I guess I should eat something. Pasta with pesto, maybe.

It’s been a good, lazy weekend so far. (My apologies to FCM.)

We went to the Italian Festival last night. Today we haven’t done too much more than a few errands and I made our usual pancakes and sausage breakfast. I just woke up from a nap and TVMan is still asleep. I’m kind of hungry so I’m trying to figure out what we will have for lunch.

The only potentially sucky part of this weekend is that I think I’ve just figured out why my knees have been hurting lately and I don’t know if there is a fix. A couple of weeks ago I turned in my xB and went back to driving my dear old Saturn station wagon. Both of them are 5 speed vehicles, but I think there’s something different about how I’ve been sitting while driving and it seems awfully suspicious as to how my knees starting to hurt have corresponded to how long I’ve been driving the other car. My left knee, especially, has been ouchy as of late and this makes sense as far as my theory goes. So, this morning I moved my seat up a little bit closer in hopes that not having to push so hard will make this problem go away.

I killed the thread.

Back from an excellent dinner and cocktails.

I had 8 massive shrimp for appetiser then an excellent steak.

Champagne cocktails are the yum :D:D

No pie you didn’t kill the thread…

Hai everybody.

It’s been a busy few days at Chez Mahna. We spent most of the day in the yard dealing with a backlog of weeding and mowing and planting and edging and other related fun gardening type things. I’m pooped! Hopefully I won’t be too sore come morning.

We’re more or less housebound for the weekend because it’s the annual Taste of the Danforth festival, better known as ten-thousand-people-descend-upon-Muppet’s-neighbourhood-and-devour-souvlaki-all-weekend-long, and we daren’t venture out for fear of being trampled by the slavering hordes. Grrrrr.

taxi, I can totally understand how you feel. I’d be sad if my dad lost his pup, not so much because I have an attachment to the dog (no more so than I do to any other dog that isn’t mine but that I’ve played with a few times, anyway), but because he’s be pretty broken up about it. Lots of hugs going out in the general direction of the** taxi 'rents**.

tarra, you’ve just gone and given me a wicked bad craving for reubens. It’s been ages since I’ve had one of those.

ems, that sounds yummy. Oh, and a little birdie tells me that Hubby Day is just around the corner.

I’m sure I have more to say, but I forgot what it was and dinner is almost done. Hugs and kisses and yays and boos for anyone I missed.

What. a. day.

On the good side, it went fast. And the annoying twit wasn’t too awfully annoying, plus he won’t be there tomorrow. Plus I got to work my old specialty area, which was fun. On the bad side, I have to go back tomorrow… **swampy **- no extra compensation, but we get credit time, which means when this weekend is over, I’ll have 20 hours to use when I wish. That’s almost 3 days off. So that’s OK.

**FCD **and I just got back from the Messican restaurant - I was just too tired to cook, and he doesn’t cook. I had a mushroom quesadilla - muy yummo!

Gonna assume the knit position in a bit and try to relax. I need a good sleep - I kept waking up last night. Oh, and there’s some chocolate moose tracks in the freezer - more yum!

I’s tahred…

I had a fun day!

Breakfast was sausage and a big scramble of eggs, potatoes, peppers, onions and mushrooms - and monterey jack cheese!

Then I took two of the dogs to the park and had a great time. Lots o’pups on Sattiday! Several Great Danes - I love to watch GD puppies playing - they’re so ungainly!

Back home and gave them both flea baths because the vet said old dog Blaze had flea dirt. I got a pill for him on Thursday. Pills for fleas, who knew?

Then we went to see Julie and Julia. It was great! Go see it! Meryl Streep was Julia Child. So funny and poignant. I loved it!

Then I came home and made a wonderful pork stir-fry, made with leftover grilled teriyaki pork tenderloin.

I’m full and happy.

Good thoughts for everyone! As well as hugs and smooches!

I had a great day, too.
Got my hair done, ran a few minor but necessary errands, then met my friend at a really good Chinese place - we shared dumplings and Peking Duck - the leftovers are in my fridge - then we went to the mall - yes I walked a mall again.
We went to Claire’s (into which I will no longer go - their inventory just got a lot younger - but the cashier says the company has “the older sister’s” store called Icing in another mall locally.
Then we went to Gadgets & Gizmos - they have some cool stuff and some schlocky stuff and once of those stuffies that talk as you walk by - it’s a foul(no pun intended)mouthed parrot. The place made me think of Spencer’s Gifts
I’m home and tired now - but I have to check on the people in my facebook games before I call it a night

Up, caffienating and heating up pain au chocolate to eat for brekkies.

I am worried I am coming down with a cold - sneezing lots - which is typical for me on vacation I have a very high stress job and when my body realises I am going on vacation it just kinda shuts down and breathes a sigh of relief. But bugger! Don’t want to be sick - I may have mentioned my Hubby is coming over and I haven’t seen him since April!

Very lazy day planned today

You forgot to say it’s now 4 sleeps till hubby time.

And 7 days till I get on the plane to London (I have an overnight stop).

Had a great day yesterday, a handful of people from the local weirdos-who-are-good-at-logic met at the 30-people-in-winter village where two of them live, visited the local church (Romanic), attended a folk music concert and had a dinner that was big enough for two nights. We were supposed to stargaze too, but the clouds didn’t agree with that part of the plan. The mayor has asked our friends to let them know if the stargazing gets re-organized on a weekend when the weather is better, he’ll switch off the streetlamps. Most of the villagers wanted to join in…

Hey!

I’m back from gallivanting across Northern Europe. Some pictures may be forthcoming later if and when I get a chance to post from home, from the computer where said pictures are stored…

Despite having skimmed the backlog, I have lost track of all birthdays and most countdowns, save the two in Nava’s post above, so I’ll just wish that “every day should seem like a minute” on our two Ladies in Waiting

Yay, boo, trouts, hugs and gropes all around – take what you need and pass it on!

Welcome back, Special One - you can imagine how much the ladies have missed you!

I’ve had a busy weekend too. Yesterday I did errands to pick up last minute bits for hollibobs, including a trip to buy some new jeans. The good part about dieting is seeing weight come off, however my bank account is less pleased about the fact that I’ve dropped another dress size and nothing in my wardrobe fits properly any more. So I had to go and buy new jeans, and along the way I picked up a nice denim skirt that will go to Hungary with me too.

Did I mention that I’m off to Budapest on Monday?

Double post 'cos I’m forgetful too, and I missed my edit window…

I had a nasty migraine-type headache last night too. It had started off as a niggling pain during the evening but when I went to bed it settled into the typical “stabbing in the head with a hot spike” pain on the left side of my head, along with the nausea, pallor, chills and other goodies. Luckily it was short-lived and was over in about 5hrs but they were five very long and very miserable hours. No wonder I’s tahred today.

Today I am not doing very much. I’ve got to pack later, but first I need to do a run to the recycling centre as I have a load of cardboard and batteries to get rid of, and I need to get some petrol ready for tomorrow’s drive up to Manchester Airport. Ho hum.

And I’ve got half a bottle of wine in the fridge that needs to be finished before I go away, and one last load of laundry to do after I’ve had a bath later. Now it must be time to forage for brekkies.
