Termites and Trees, A Homeownership MMP

Mmm. Home grown tomatoes. I haven’t had any since June. I’ll have to get chummy with The Neighbor Who Grows Tomatoes.

Appendages crossed for The Princess, Pugs. And I am soooo ready for fall! It’s more 100° temps here with no rain. Ugh.

Peach ice cream! Yum, HBrit! Makes me think of summers at my grandma’s house.

I hear drama brewing in a nearby cubicle. “I didn’t do anything wrong!” He’s getting loud, as usual. Hmm.

First on 3!

Our door replacement is today too, and the guy called me this morning to let me know when he’d be arriving: sometime between noon and two, which were the only two hours out of my whole day when I had stuff scheduled. So I’m going to have to miss a fun team lunch. I like my team, and we’re going to be split up by this reorg so I was looking forward to that. :frowning:

My friends that we visited out there really liked the Museum of Glass. We didn’t go when we were there, but they’d taken other visitors and recommended it. Maybe next trip!

Oh and our Vegas (and Denver and Salt Lake) trip is less than 6 weeks away!

Looks like the board is cranky today. Let’s see if the third time’s the charm.

Enjoy your trip, doggio! Try not to lose Nelly’s inheritance, eh?

Taters, you wanna know who spends that kind of money at a gift shop? My MIL, that’s who. Especially if it’s a gift shop that sells art glass, because she compulsively collects the stuff. Remind me to warn FIL to avoid the Museum of Glass… it sounds like a trip there would pretty much wipe out The Boy’s inheritance.

Rebo, you should be happy you got 'maters in June. We’re still waiting on this year’s crop to be edible… since it’s been unusually cool, they’re stubbornly refusing to go beyond green. Methinks I’ll be making lots of green tomato chutney and fried green tomatoes at this rate. :stuck_out_tongue: (That is, assuming my plants survive the rainy couple of weeks we’ve had… blight is very much a possibility right now)

Also, the blasted squirrels went and ate the two almost-ripe nectarines off my tree. Stoopit fuzzbutts. That’s three years now that I haven’t had a single fruit off my peach and nectarine trees, because the critters always snatch them up before they’re edible.

Oh, and garbage pickup officially resumed this morning. YAY!!! It was a nice feeling to rush out in the morning to get the garbage out before the truck comes… I give it another week or two before the novelty wears off.

Good morning everyone.

I really miss homegrown tomatoes. Hell, I miss homegrown vegetables, period. I used to have a kick-ass vegetable garden at my first house.

Have fun on your trip, doggio.

It’s a cloudy and a little cool outside right now. I think the clouds are supposed to burn off, but it’s supposed to take longer than it did yesterday. Tomorrow, we might see a little rain.

Figures today would be cooler. I was contemplating joining my husband on my neighbor’s boat for some wakeboarding. I’m not interested in going if I’m going to be cold, though.

Going to cruise the news now.

Woo hoo! Well, not really but I’m trying to be positive. The older I get, the harder that the year-end work at work becomes; this year, I’ve already (apparently) reached my boilover point. Seriously, I just had so many reqs to do at the last minute for putting them into the system, most of them had all sorts of problems, not to mention that there were a few with long lists of approvers … good grief. Then last night I went to the pool and today my legs felt like jello … solidified. So, I’m taking the day as sick leave/mental health combined. Meanwhile, the emails are flying at work. Why I’m even logging on to see them, I don’t know, I shouldn’t but they’ll cause me grief whenever, so … what. ever. At least I’m home today. Oh and I do plan to return to the pool… on Friday. LOL

Hope that Doggio has a safe flight and a good time in Vegas. Wonder how Rigs is making out? I’ve been getting my fresh 'maters from the farmer’s market - much better than at the grocery store.

Thank Og it’s Hump Day.

My tomato plant finally took off in the last ~3 weeks. It was one sad little stalk up to that point with just a few yellow leaves. When it finally started to get a few little green leaves and I was able to cut off all of the yellow, it started growing like crazy. I’ve got flowers and small tomatoes all over now. So we should be eating homegrown tomatoes (grape tomatoes so they won’t take as long to mature) by September.

Yeah, that’s pretty much par for the course.

I’ve been productive today. I finally took my work pants to the cleaners to get them altered, I cleared a pile and a half of brush out of the side lot, found the USB cable to my mp3 player so I could finally charge it, did laundry, and now I’m waiting for Moody Friend to get out of the bathroom so I can shower and get ready for a meeting in a few hours. I’m not complaining, it means I get to go home an hour early again sometime this week because overtime is verboten.

I forgot to republish the grilled okra recipe, so I just now searched for it. Funny thing, every post on the Dope referencin’ grilled okra, also references me.

Grilled Okra

Okra
Olive Oil
Salt and Pepper
Skewers
Grill

Brush olive oil on the okra and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Skewer okra and grill five minutes on each side.

Fight each other over the last piece.

There it be.

Garage door is now springy again. YAY!

In a while I shall heat up dindin. Except I do have to make the smashed N.O.T.. Even those are all peeled and diced and sttin’ in water ready to be cooked. I went ahead and did the steak and gravy last night. The veggies were already done cause I did ‘em Monday in prep for last night but since we didn’t eat ‘em last night they shall get et tonight. Oh and I am thawin’ and bakin’ frozen biscuits.

I’ve been eatin’ fresh ‘maters all Summer thanks to my mad veggie growin’ skillz.

Wonder if doggio is in Vegas yet. He promised to post from his spiffy new cellphone.

If rigs is makin’ out, good for her!

I hate Sears. Within the last year, we bought 2 queen size mattresses from them plus one foundation (we had a decent foundation for the other bed.) Both were plush pillowtop, designed not to be flipped over. Both have developed body divots. I went to their customer care section and sent them an email. They replied that they don’t know anything about local store inventories. I wrote back just now asking if any human beings ever read these things.

Last week, I sent an email asking for the status of the part we had on order for our dryer, as it was a week later. The reply was “The technician ordered the part.” Duh! He ordered the part the week before standing right in front of me! Lucky for them, the part arrived the next day.

I think the moral of the story is I’m not going to shop at Sears any more. Assholes.

Came home to mow, but the battery on the mower is dead. Again. I think we need a new battery. Thought that last week when it was dead. So it’s on the charger, and I’ll go out in a little bit to mow.

And I got dragged into a meeting this afternoon that was the epitome of clusterf*$#%*&k. One thing for sure, when they do it again, and they will, I’m not going. The whole project was a waste of my time. I ain’t gonna mess with it any more. Idiots.

OK, that’s out of my system. I’m now going to commune with nature and try to get this pissy mood to go away.

Deep cleansing breaths…

Laterz…

The garage door installer guy is here, and I’m working from home. To keep an eye on things. Or because it’s an excuse to work from home, and I don’t get very many of those given that I work <1 mile from home. It’s kind of nice because 1) I can get snacks or good tea whenever I want, 2) I have a candle lit so it smells all purty, and 3) the bathroom’s close by. Not that need the bathroom close by, but at work it’s a loooooooooong walk away, and who wants that? The down side is all the noise that the garage door installer guy is making. There’s a lot of drilling that goes into installing a door!

Is that a non-slimy way to make okra, swampy? I looooooooooove the okra curry at a Tibetan place near here, but I’m afraid to try it anywhere else in case it’s slimy. But grilling sounds like it might turn out pretty well.

Ok, ok, so I didn’t read any of it. Sue me! I popped in here to share my good news:
I GOT THE JOB AS A MEDICAL LIBRARIAN!!!
Now I have to talk to my RN job and see what’s what with that. The Lib job comes with BENNYS, so we can get off COBRA.

I am exhausted but happy–it’s weird how great news can make someone tired.

Big congrats,** rigs!** I’m so happy for you. Even better that the job has bennies!

The sun still has not made an appearance today. I’m going to stay home and just get stuff done around the house.

WOO HOO RIGS!!!

Good for you, girl, especially about the bennys! Good mojo vibes to all others looking for good jobs too, btw - fingers still crossed for MrRebo.

Congrats, rigs! You worked hard to get there. Very happy for you.

Yay rigs!!!

ETA: Oh, right. We can’t post in all caps. Well, imagine I posted in all caps and was shouting happily.

Sears has lawn tractor batteries on sale this week.

Congrats, Rigs!

Woo and double hoo, rigs!!! Very cool!!

Lawn is mowed and I’m no longer pissed off. Supper will be some sort of chicken and rice thing - the chickie tits are thawing in a bowl of water right now. Tomorrow is date night - my sweetie and I are going out, sans SIL. I’ll have to tell him that he’s on his own for supper tomorrow.

OK, slightly pissed. For some reason, idiots who drive down the road on the side of our lot seem to enjoy flinging beverage cans and bottles on our right of way. Luckily, I see them before I mow over them, but I don’t appreciate having to clean up after some pigs. grrrrrrr

Doggies want to go out and pee - guess I should take them…

Ooh! FCM--I get that too, but across the street (lane)–people like to dump beer cans on the verge between the street (lane) and the golf course fence. VERY annoying and nasty to clean up. Stoopid peoples.
Thanks, all–happy day at casa Rigs.
