Termites and Trees, A Homeownership MMP

Garage door is done - under 3 hours. It’s all shiny (the hardware). And with its new belt drive motor, it’s super quiet and just kind of goes brrrrrr-rrrrrrrrrrr-rrrrrrrrrr. Nice.

Yay rigs! Hope the transition goes smoothly, and that you don’t get much grief from the RN job.

I dropped into the company-sponsored farmer’s market again this afternoon and picked up more goodies. I bought a bag of fresh shelled sweet peas (they’re so sweet it’s like eating candy!), some gorgeous haricot verts, and a raspberry-Stilton scone (which I have already devoured). I successfully resisted buying a strawberry pie and fresh cheese curds, both of which were calling my name and were rather miffed I didn’t take them home.

It’s a good thing the market isn’t running past the end of August, else my pocketbook will be empty… though my belly will be happy. :slight_smile:

eeeew! grilled slime. (where’s the pukey smilie when we need it?)

in other news - and this relates to my OP from two weeks ago
There was a “luau” lunch today - fried chicken, BBQ chicken, BBQ ribs, 2 kinds of pasta, & green salad - I had about a quarter cup of salad with a teaspoon of dressing, and a half of a BBQ breast - less than 3 oz of meat on it. I took 15 minutes to eat it, putting my untensils down in between bites, and afterward not only was I full, but I didn’t feel deprived or like I had worked at anything - I knew what the right thing to do was and I did it - and my inner voices did not fight me. so Yay!

WOOHOO rigs!!! The job you wanted plus beenies. You have been makin’ out! :smiley:

Dindin is et. ‘Twas good. I get to spend tomorrow and Firday evenin’ makin’ cheese crisps. I promised two batches for the church reception for new Priest on Sattidy. Plus, I promised two batches for JDD’s parent’s 65th weddin’ anniversary do also on Sattidy. I’m goin’ to the anniverdary do. The new Priest thing is important but 65th anniversaries are super important. I mean, how many people even have those, so I think that’s where I need to be. Plus, we’ve been told to hang around afterwards for grilled steaks at JDD’s parents place. His parents were the ones who told ol’ y’all know who and me to stay, even. They likes us!

BBBobbio spendin’ the windfall on pumpin’ out the septic tank is even better than spendin’ it on bathroom tile grout and new rain gutters. Y’all are wild!

Okra recipe is posted - thanks for finding it, swampy!

Woooooooohoooooooooooooooooo, rigs! Extra yay for the bennies!

Didn’t you promise me cheese crisps for Saturday, too swampy?
::angelic smiley::

Peach ice cream - yum. Guess I’ll have to stop by the local ice cream place to see if they have any. If not, I know that the other semi-local ice cream place has it, because they have a sign out.

Did I mention that I actually had my favorite flavor of ice cream while I was in Mexico? Mamey. VEry yum.

My little camera case turned out quite nicely. Now I’m thinking about what else to make with that yarn. I really like it. I was going to make a purse, but haven’t gotten to it. It seems like a good weight for a shawl, so I might look for another pattern for one or just make one up.

So, where’s snowbunny been lately? Seems like she hasn’t checked in in a while. Mama Tigs hasn’t been heard from in ages, either.

I was going to have another potato and carrot combo for dinner, but started thinking about a sandwich they used to make at the cafeteria when I was in grad school. They made it on some type of flat bread (I always suspected it was really Bisquick) and put all kinds of veggies, grated cheese, alfalfa sprouts and then Thousand Island dressing on it. I made tonight’s on a ciabatta roll. It had spinach leaves, cucumber, red pepper, tomato, Monterey Jack and Asiago cheese, and shredded carrots. Mixed up my own dressing, too. It wasn’t exactly the same, but it got pretty close to the spirit of it. I think I’m going to try again tomorrow.

Now I need to get to work on something productive. Either photo albums or more knitting. Any votes?

Also…if no one has claimed next Monday, I’d like to get us started off.

GT

all those in favor of gt launching the thread next week?

AYE!!
all opposed?

::crickets::

Motion carried.

Oy.

Speaking of home-related expenses… the deck guy just came by to go over the quote for the deck and fence, and it’s a whopping $13500 to do both.

:eek:

And that’s AFTER the discount for doing both jobs at once.

:eek::eek::eek:

I know his prices are very reasonable, and his work is very good (he was recommended by a coworker who just got a deck built last month)… and really, there’s no choice about replacing the deck because it’s on its last legs and could collapse any day now. Still, I’d been hoping to keep it under $10K, since we just don’t have that much in the kitty right now.

Guess my all-glass door in the kitchen is just going to have to wait. :frowning:

ETA: gt, sapote ice cream sounds Teh Yum. I wonder if I can find the fruit at the local Latin American market… does it exist in canned and/or frozen form, by any chance, or do you have to travel to Mexico just to get it?

Whoa - sounds spendy, Muppet. :eek:

Also, I’ve been able to find frozen mamey pulp up here a couple of times. I’ve never seen fresh mameys here, but I probably need to stop by the Mexican grocery more often.

There was more, but I’ve forgotten…

Gratz Rigs!!!

That’s great; both the bennies and that it’s a job you really want.

Why isn’t the size in the quick reply, pout whine mumble.

10 days.

Muppet, my installation of gas heating is suddenly looking oh. So. Cheap, and it’s the most expensive thing I’ve done in my house other than buy it. The heating used to require diesel fuel, which can’t be bought for domestic purposes any more: you need to get a card saying you’re a farmer and then you can buy jerricans, very logical plus I love the idea of climbing to a third-and-a-half floor with two jerricans of gasoil. Gas is darn expensive, but it’s not like you have to use whole-house heating when there’s only one person in.

Squee, I’m flattered XD

Yes, I’ve been MIA. I’m a bad Mumper. In my defense, I was off doing Interesting Things. Took a vacation in the mountains, then the day after we got back, Jasmine (good friend from New Jersey) came down to visit… Those two events kept me essentially offline from July 19th to July 27th.

Anyway, I’m pretty much floating on Cloud 9 right now. Jasmine and I have been friends for almost two years now, but until the weekend before last, we had never met irl, although we had talked and flirted extensively online. But when we actually saw each other and started talking, well… blushes and grins We fell for each other almost instantly. I will not bore you with details I’m sure would be of no interest to you, but there were enough blush-inducing admissions and shy smiles to fill three or four chick flicks and most of a romantic comedy, and we ended up spending most of her visit just cuddling together on the futon in the basement. We’re scared and excited all at once, and we don’t know what’s going to happen between us, but… We’re both so very, very happy, and since her visit we’ve been in almost constant contact via cellphone and Instant Messenger and gradually gotten to the point where we can use the words “I love you” and not only mean it but also not feel a twinge of guilt about how quickly this has happened.

Also, she’s so pretty it hurts. Puerto Rican, with long black hair that curls just enough to be sexy, and the most wonderful big, warm brown eyes… melts

That’s enough of my sappy gushing for one post. I’ll add stories of both the aforementioned family vacation and Jasmine’s visit when it’s not 4:00am.

Congrats, rigs!

Only four more sleeps until hollibobs!

Glad to see you’re fine, Moonie, and may you descend softly from Cloud 9 rather than fall down :slight_smile:

Hi BooFae!

Mumpyland is full of people counting backwards, lately.

Blurf.

The thunderboomers last night were entertaining. I wish it was cool enough that we could sleep with the winders open.

An oddity during the morning commute: while still in the heart of Cottonfield County, I spotted from afar some obstructions in the road. When I got closer, I saw it was a cooler with contents spilled, a large air compressor, and a 10kW generator. :eek: That was a lot of money laying in the road.

I dutifully stopped, called the sheriff’s office for a deputy, and set about clearing the [del]cow path[/del] roadway. The owner came back as I was finishing, and he was totally oblivious to losing the stuff off his truck until someone else called him to say he lost the load. :smack:

The septic guy never showed yesterday. Maybe he’ll get to us today.

Good morning! Tummy feels better today, so yay!

BIG YAY FOR RIGS!!! That’s such excellent news. :slight_smile:

Ah, young love. Congrats, Moonie!

I agree that Sears sucks, Mom. As to the divots, we have the same problem. I spin the bed every so often, and that helps. Also, you can vacuum the pillow top and it helps a little to fluff it up. Plus, it gets the dust mites out! :eek: :smiley:

I wonder if Doggio is broke yet? :wink: I’m jealous, though. I’d love to be sitting in front of a video poker bar, drinking for free on a Thursday morning. :smiley:

I might have to try that grilled okra, Swampy. I have a question about cheese crisps, too. I made them one time from your recipe, and they came out all crumbly and dry. No offense, but is that how they’re supposed to be? Nobody liked them, and I was disappointed. Did I do something wrong? :frowning:

I got my 6 month review today. It was pretty good, but I have a bunch of things I have to do to meet my goals. Plus, I’m supposed to take over the bi-monthly Thursday meeting from my boss, in my efforts to get promoted. He wants me to WOW him. :rolleyes:

I guess I better get busy.

Have a good day!

WOO-HOO!

Guess who just got a phone call?? The company Mr Rebo wanted to work for just called, and he’s on his way to take the drug test! He’ll start either this coming Monday, or the next.

Awesome!

:: does happy dance::

I know y’all have been on tenterhooks about the septic tank being pumped. It just got done; I’m missing $175 and 700 gallons of liquid poop. The guy said the tank was not in bad shape, and we should be good for another 4 years.

Next money pit is the Foomobile. It needs new struts and a CV joint fixed. :mad:
ETA: Yay Rebo and Mr. !

Yay moonie! Welcome back and awwwwwwww for new love. Fast isn’t always bad. I’m married to my met-online-and-said-I-love-you-right-away guy. The long distance thing is doable - we were half the country apart for a year. It took a bus, a car, and an airplane to visit, but we made it work. While he was in grad school, writing his thesis. That was the fun part. :rolleyes: Anyway, good luck to the two of you! And keep us updated!

We’re still enamored with our new garage door. KT came home and we kept pushing the button to make it go up and down. Quietly. Then we went upstairs and used the remote to make it go up and down while we tried to listen for it from upstairs. With the windows open we could hear it, but barely. And it’s shiny and clean and new! And cost waaaaaaaaay less than Muppet’s deck! Yikes! It ain’t cheap to be a homeowner. It seems like a lot of us are getting hit with home expenses this week! Or is it just that we’re talking about them so everyone’s mentioning their home repairs where they might not some other week…?

Swampy, are the grilled okra un-slimy? I’m tempted to try the recipe but only if the dry cooking method keeps them un-slimy.

:::Drive by:::

Rosie’s sig to all!!

Hey! I was having trouble getting to the site earlier, so imagine I did a drive-by earlier, okay? :slight_smile:

I hope I’m sufficiently caffeinated now. My boss says, “just one more PR …” :rolleyes: And there just aren’t enough of them for me right now! Heh. Back to the pool to walk in the water tomorrow afternoon, though, so yay!

And Yay for MrRebo! Glad to know that the mojo vibes still got it. :slight_smile: So sending them to everyone who needs em. And yay too for Moonie and hope that he’s mooning around!! Not monkeying around, mind you…:smiley: So sweet, though, young love. Aww! And Yay to Doggio’s vacation, and to Bobbio’s newly cleaned septic tank (pee yew! LOL). Whee!

I can haz Firday? :slight_smile:

Good morning everyone. I’ve been up and caffienating for awhile, but have been taking my sweet time cruising around the Net.

So, we must be on our yearly splurge spending spree, because we bought a Wii Sports package, Wii Fit, and some other stuff to go with the Wii. I’m feeling slightly ill, but Mr. Taters has wanted a Wii for quite a long time now, and I kept saying no. We had a little extra this month, so I finally agreed.

We tried several of the games and then we did the Yoga part of the Wii fit. Okay, already it pissed me off because according to it, my Wii age is 60! WTF. On the other hand, it confirmed what I already knew: that I had gained a little weight and that I need to get back on the stick WRT exercise. Today I plan to go through the strength training part of it and some other regimes.

We found out that my center of balance is much better than my husband’s. This is surprising because he kicks ass on a wakeboard and I still have trouble staying up on the board for any length of time. I also found out I need to become more limber. I had a hell of a time with Tree pose. Who knew it was that hard? Of course I was trying to put foot waaaay up on my thigh like the “trainer” on the Wii, and my body was having none of that!

I also KICK ASS at sword dueling! LOL.

It appears as if the sun is going to make an earlier appearance today. Yesterday, the sun didn’t come out until way late in the afternoon. I was actually cold enough that I shut the windows downstairs.

Well, stuff to do today. Hugs and smooches to all!
