Well, it’s official. Vetbridge was brave enough to sponsor a guest in this thread, so here I am!
I am an eighteen-year-old Texas girl who loves music and most other art forms. I’ve studied piano and voice for years, and I enjoyed my music theory, film and dance courses all immensely. Among my friends, I’m known as the editor (many of them write, but nearly as many of them cannot spell), so I hope I won’t get nervous and make a big mistake. :smack:
I took my username from the Dick Tracy series. I love classic films and the music of old and am slowly becoming a fan of graphic novels as well.
I’m clumsy, pale, short and blonde, but I’m also thoughtful, curious, patient and a loyal friend. I think I’ll stop describing myself before I sound any more like a golden retriever… but, there you have it.
I’m looking forward to being a member of this community! Bring on the goats or what have you. I will be tough.
Oh, no! I try not to be as ignorant as many people my age. Not to say I don’t like my parents’ music… but I love jazz and classical (usually Romantic) more than anything.
Kirby is an American Eskimo. He is smart and does a ton of tricks, but no one will believe us as he’s also protective when anyone comes in our house- or even walks on the opposite side of the street outside our house. Once he recognizes you by sight, you can pet him and he’ll be calm, but if you look him in the eye he goes nuts. We tell people, “Here comes the white dog! Don’t look at him!”
Mercy is a Golden Retriever-Chow mix, so she has a pink-and-blue spotted tongue. She is so named because we got her from a shelter and she had a broken front paw, from abuse by a previous owner (they assume) and was found by the side of the road, at the mercy of her rescuers. Her paw has healed of course, but she still likes to hold it up a little when begging for snacks as it makes us feel sorry for her… it works. We’re suckers.
I recognize your name! You’re the friendly one! Well… lots of people here are friendly… but you’re always in welcome/party/general happiness threads. Thank you!
Mmm, good question. Being an International Baccalaureate student was supposed to be my ride to the top… pshh! Texas schools look at top 10% rank above ALL else, it seems. In such a competitive program, at such a high-profile (though public) high school, many IB kids have virtually no social life, and the kids in AP work even harder because our GPA scale starts higher than theirs. So I barely missed the top 10% mark and am scrambling.
I want to major in journalism or communications. Maybe a double major or a minor in Spanish as I’m taking the Higher Level test in May (usually reserved for native speakers). My parents vetoed anywhere good like USC or Northwestern- AFTER they’d okayed it and I’d done apps and had reccomendation letters written for me. UT Austin accepted me but only to a feeder school for the first year. Upon finding that out I wanted to try SMU but they’d stopped accepting apps. Now I’m thinking OU and my parents are trying to send me to UNT or UTD. Who knows?
