If even a tenth of her posts were spewing vitriol at the board management, administration, or moderation, she’s still formed much more of a behavior pattern than anyone else I can think of.
I believe she was doing what she thought was right–first defending Melin and Kels, then calling out the injustices she perceived.
Sadly, however, she was misguided, and her methods were such that she acted like a jerk in communicating her feelings.
While Goldie’s administration-bashing ratio was less than 2/3, the posts that WERE bashing more than made up for it. As I said, I didn’t read every one of her posts…but I did read some. And those that I read made it clear to me that she was being a jerk. I don’t think that this will change.
Who cares what her “RATIO” is of flaming posts to non-flaming posts. What has that got to do with anything? What if she had made the same amount of flammatory posts, but also posted an extra 300-400 posts answering peoples questions in GQ? Then what? Just because she spent most of her time on this board flaming doesn’t mean shit. I can’t believe you made your decision to ban her based purely on that.
Her main purpose to return to the board was clearly to post her disgust at the mod’s comments about Fathom. Of course you can expect a lot of her posts to be of a flammatory nature.
And how did you respond? You banned her. A crock of shit if I have ever heard it.
MadHatter, Goldie simply came here to complain about how the ship was run. She had a bone to pick and resurected all the old issues again when there was really little need for it to be done.
This board isn’t here to serve you, or me , or anything else. If we don’t like how it is run, we can leave. I did it before, and left quietly, instead of screaming about it. I still disagree with the incident, but Nothing will change the past, and I really don’t want to waste my time trying.
I realized that I found more Pro’s about the board than there were cons, and I came back. Life moves on, and I’m not worried about it anymore.
You made a mistake, you got called on it. Be big about it, forget about it and move on. Picking at scabs, both fresh and old, only leads to infection.
Let me start by affirming* that it was I who created Lynn’s list of Goldie’s posts.
Then we might have taken a different course of action. Someone who is a regular contributor to different forums and who seems to take this message board seriously will have their complaints received in a different light than someone who occasionally tosses out a “me too!” in MPSIMS before turning around and attacking the mods.
But the point is, the main reason she seems to return to the board is to post her disgust with the mods or to talk about how much better Fathom is. And we don’t have to put up with posters who come here mostly to badmouth us either through direct insults or through stating that other boards are better.
Feel free to feel that way. But I feel we were completely justified in banning her.
Moreoever, MadHatter, UncleBeer did not comment on Fathom in any way. He merely provided a link to a thread where someone edited his words away. If anything, it was a stab at the idiot that is concrete, not at Fathom. The only possible conclusion that can be drawn is that apparently, UncleBeer does not agree with Fathoms decision to let people edit their posts. He can have that opinion, right? What am I missing here?
“You made a mistake, you got called on it. Be big about it, forget about it and move on.”
You’ve lost me. What mistake did I make?
John Corrado
I don’t agree with most of what you said, but you presented clear, logical arguements and I will therefore not challenge you on them.
Diane
“You don’t like it Madhatter? You know where the door is.”
::yawn:: I grow tired of hearing this every time someone makes a complaint. Diane, just because someone is complaining about some aspect of the board, doesn’t mean they want to leave it. You should share this piece of advice with all the other people who share your illogical view.

“Moreoever, MadHatter, UncleBeer did not comment on Fathom in any way”.
Well, close enough.

I would like to point out here that my initial reason for posting to this thread was to indicate that Karat was wasting her time trying to draw support when her complaint was lodged directly against a mod. Karat wasn’t making any over-the-top individual comments about a poster. She wasn’t trolling. She was expressing her views. If you grew tired of listening to her, you should have stopped posting here. Instead you continued to post, meaning Karat had to come back and continue to defend her views, the mods got sick of it, and banned her.
Oy vey. I didn’t mean to open another can of worms. I was just genuinely curious.
For the record, I am very glad you banned her. She was a jerk.
MadHatter: Why do you find it so hard to believe that we defend the mods simply because:
a. We agree with their decisions?
b. We think they do an excellent job?
c. We appreciate their hard work in maintaining this wonderful board?
d. We like them?
e. All of the above?
Please help us to understand why someone would want to stick around a board when they obviously don’t like the way it is moderated? Is it just so they can take jabs at given opportunities? It sure seems like it.
A lot of posters have had disagreements with moderators. It certainly is not one big happy family 24-7. You know as well as the rest of us why Karat was banned, I don’t need to explain it.
This is not a Democracy. None of us have a right to be here, it is a privilege offered us by the owners of this board. They make the rules and they decide who they want to allow into their party. If they decide tomorrow that everyone should change their screen name to “LongLiveCecil” or be banned, you either change your name or be shown the door. There is no vote, there is no appeal system, you can’t declare your Constitutional rights. You’ll just be . . . . gone.
Sigh. The mistake you’ve made is to take the goings on in this thread and let the residual bad feelings colour your postings.
If you read my post earlier in this thread you will see that although I agreed that UncleBeer’s post in ATMB was unwise 24’s eager jumping on it was jerklike. The link provided to Yue Han’s April rant (a very fine one it was too) is surely confirmation that she was just here to stir the shit.
DON’T go. You are generally a top bloke. So you feel slighted? Move on, don’t let that minor incident make you into a bitter shadow of yourself. Other posters who have had issues with mods fall into two categories: (i) people who stay around and be readable, interesting posters whether or not they feel pissed off at some prior episode; or (ii) Losers who let the bile enter every post they make. Cool down. You can and should take the first option.
All right, since I apparently haven’t made myself clear to some of the more dim, I’ll go through this again.

I posted this as an example of what can happen when people are allowed to edit their own posts. I could have used a sample from another message board, but I picked this one merely because it was convenient. I knew it existed and knew where to find it easily. If I had intended to slam Fathom, I’d have drawn some kind of conclusion from the data provided. Since I did not, you can be assured, I intended no opprobrium to anyone or anything. If derision was my aim, I’d have made that perfectly clear.
I suggest if you people quit seeking affronts, you’ll be much happier and your lives will be more fulfilling. (Hell, I’m a damned misanthrope and this works even for me.) You’ll also find you are less put upon than you currently believe. Lighten up; you’ll be better for it. You may choose to be find offense at every turn, or you may take the advice above; I don’t care. Do whatever the fuck you want.
Now, you have my explanation, in as clear a fashion as I intend to make it, and you have my advice, or perhaps criticism, on your apparent view on life. I’m done here; I won’t be commenting again in this thread.
I had an initial knee-jerk reaction on what he posted. I thought for a sec and realized he meant no malice. As a moderator on Fathom, had I felt he was out of line I would have emailed him immediately and asked that he rephrase or recant his post if I felt it was intended as a “slam” at Fathom. But I know better, the SD mods/admins would not intentionally say something negative about Fathom.
On the same token, he used it as an example, no more no less.
Here’s the summary:
Hatter requests a link to nudie pics of an underage celebrity. Manny says no. Hatter asks again. Manny says no again. Hatter holds grudge.
“MadHatter, ModHater” is born!
And does anyone else see Hatter’s repeated use of “crock of shit” in the same vein as Comic Book Guy’s use of “worst episode ever”?
