That’s Some Bad Puns... The MMP

bbs2k, yes you spelt (spelled?) “orchestrate” properly! Gold star for you sunshine!

Nooner, I hope your weekend goes smoothly.

Sorry I forgot to post the transliteration of كل عام و أنتم بخير - “kul aam wa entum b’khair” (the “kh” is pronounced like “ch” in German or Scottish - kinda guttural).

Ouch! The crime of cock blockery is grounds for a revolution. I’ve got a mean pitchfork, or at least chopsticks!

Nice, finally. Didn’t expect to see TP in the MMP, but oh well. I love it when we play ninjas and samurai together!

Morning. Another day another dollar. It’s 45 right now, and it’s only supposed to be 71 today.

BooFae, Lucretia’s comment was “Another dog? I’ll kill you in your sleep!”

LiLi, glad idiot co-worker is a little better. Maybe Mr. Lisslar sent him the ninja version of an offer he can’t refuse.

bbs2k, I have a boomstick, will that do?

Happy Eid, Dotty! Hope you enjoy the brief vacation from your MIL as well.

Doggio, Nellie is a cutie-pie, congrats!

Caffeinating and ready for the end of the work week. CFC for me here; the campaign hasn’t started yet, but will in the next few weeks. I’ve almost always participated, usually through payroll deduction. At least CFC provides you with -a lot- of information, enough to make an informed decision; you know how much each charity supposedly spend on administrative process, and how much goes directly to those in need.

I’m collecting brooms for tonight’s baseball game. Here, take this boomerang.

I am awake, and I am not happy about it. The phone rang at 6:30 this morning - which automatically send my adrenaline into overdrive - it was one of the other nurses on Mr. SCL’s private duty case. Mr. SCL got off at 7pm; he and this nurse did a narcotics count and it was correct. So this twit and and the oncoming 7am nurse do a narc count and something is missing. So what does the idiot do? Calls Mark at 6:30am! I will killllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll her!

My alarm was set for 8, no point in trying to go back to sleep now. I am so irritated. I have to go help Librarian Friend catch one of her cats at 10, then I can come home and go back to sleep.

Mornin’, y’all. Not much of interest today. Had caffeine; need more.

This weekend’s big project is that I’ve volunteered VWife and myself to help cook and debone enough chickens to make about 100 gallons of Brunswick Stew for the Rescue Squad’s fundraiser in 2 more weeks. I want to help make the actual stew (good stuff, Maynard), but I doubt if I can since that will happen just about the time she gets home from bionicification.

Is it quit o’clock yet?

Woohoo! It’s Friday! I’m getting my caffeine fix on, our tech is back a day earlier than expected, and tomorrow I get to go and pick up the Half Life 2 Orange Box. (Specifically just for HL2:EP2 and Portal since I already own EP1 and original HL2. I hate when they do that.) It’s freakin’ cold outside, though! I woke up this morning to 5°C (41F) temperatures! Lordy, that’s just too damn cold even for a fall morning. And it was spitting out, too.

And I just found another hidden Google thing. Did you know it can convert units? I didn’t. For the hell of it (just to see if it understood what I wanted) I typed “convert 5c to f” into the Google search box (hey, you can use it as a calculator that way) – and it worked! How does Google keep getting cooler? (I tried something else just now; turns out you don’t even need to type “convert” as “5c to f” works just as well.)

I’m having a plain bun for breakfast. That may sound weird, but it’s fresh from the bakery, and I’m a total whore for freshly baked, still-warm bread. No butter or other condiments or toppings, just soft, fresh, bready goodness. I did get a corn muffin too, though. I can’t live on bread alone, y’know.

(I just typed that as “muffing.” That sounds kinda dirty. Especially with corn.)

bbs2k - Um … would you settle for a spork and a Zippo? And I’m not sure if the Zippo has fluid, but I can still brandish it menacingly.

Doggio - Nellie has teh cuteness! I’m sure she’s gonna love it 'round your house.

Ok, why is everyone calling this morning? It’s Friday, it isn’t supposed to be this busy. sigh

How did I miss the Eid stuff? I don’t celebrate Eid, not being Muslim, but when I was growing up in Michiganlots of people around us were Muslim, so I used to get new clothes on Eid, too.

We thankfully don’t have United Way as I work for an nfp, but there was a rumor going around a couple of years ago that we’d all have to donate. :smack: Part of my salary, back to them? Anyway the decision was made that upper management would have to donate. I am not upper management, thankfully.

Oh, and morning all. picks up torch Why do I have this?

Will it convert miles per hour to furlongs per fortnight? :dubious:

ETA: It does…

WELL.

All I can say is that getting up at odarkhundred to see your daughter on TV isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

I saw the top of her head. And she says the weather guy on channel 5 is a jerk. He asked one girl what her favorite thing about living here was, she opened her mouth and he interrupted her to say, “you don’t really know, do you.” She (good on her) shot back, “you didn’t let me speak.”

And then he asked if they thought getting up at 0600 was “early” and most of them said yes (my daughter, who had cottoned on to him said no), and then he said, “I get up at 0100 to this.” Like the teens care. As my daughter so eloquently put it: that’s your JOB, dude.

In all, about 3 minutes tops was spent on the lovely town of Flossmoor, IL. Ah, well, perhaps it will teach my daughter that fame is fleeting…

IOW, none of you missed anything.

I am flatironing my hair, prior to running errands like a maniac, then packing to GO AWAY. Yay!
Happy Friday to all. I’m liking that Eid thingy. That article is hysterical,** Dotty**–but do Muslims at least use soap in their annual bath?

The real reason I felt compelled to give to United Way last year is that they held the day after T-day hostage until 70% of the employees gave. It’s not one of the listed holidays that we’re supposed to get but once they promised to give it to us in return for participation… well, the peer pressure really went up. Sadly, it looks like they’re not going to use that as an incentive this year at all (so my donation was a waste… dammit! I should have waited until I knew for sure that they’d offer it as an incentive again since it was the ONLY reason I gave last year) since we’re already at 59% participation and almost up to the $50k they were looking to raise. Oh well.

Anyway, to further describe the knitting problem I mentioned last night. When I switch from a knit stitch to a purl stitch, I’m doing something wrong, and it’s coming out all loose (just that last knit stitch, not the first purl stitch). I am moving the yarn from the back for the knit stitch to the front before the purl stitch. Isn’t that supposed to make it work right? I did a whole scarf of K3 P3, and it turned out beautifully… then I started on a blanket and got screwed up somewhere and can’t figure out what’s wrong. Now I want to do a k1 p1 scarf, and it’s still looking all wrong. What am I doing differently now than what I did on the K3 P3 scarf?? Help!

Awake. Throat is kind of sore. I am not getting a cold. I’m not.

Happy Eid, Dotty! Pass me some of those sugary pastries, willya?

SpecialOne, I feel smug. I got the reference without the footnote. Go me!

I’ve got four batches of bread rising, a sinkful of dishes, and Mr. Lissar wants me to wash his gi. I also need to make Stealth Onions (caramelized and blitzed in the food processor) and spaghetti sauce. All of this involves the kitchen, and using the taps. I think I’ll sit on the couch for a bit and try to figure out the most logical strategy for tackling all this.

mrglmrpglrp

someone bring me an IV caffeine drip, stat!

Wash the dishes first, then fill a large pan with water for later use. Then put the laundry on. That way you should have plenty of “spare” water while the taps are in use. If the washer has it’s own outlet and doesn’t drain into the sink, you could fill the sink full of water too.

Then sit on the couch and nurse the sore throat.

rigs, check your mail. I saw the 2 minute forecast he did from the pub, but there’s nothing else on the website. I met him once, and he IS a jerk. Very full of himself for a guy that reads weather.

TGIF!!!

I sense a “not getting a lot done” day today. Updates as they become available.

Off now to run a couple errands - dropping stuff of to people and visiting in general.

damn hamsters

I’ve managed to get home in time for most of the Trailing of the Sheep festival – of course there’s a website, seeover here – which should be fun. I’m not going to kill myself getting to events, but I will certain do the parade on Sunday which goes right throught the middle of town. I know, sheep…the jokes write themselves, but they actually have historically been very very important in the valley.

Hotel beds suck. But tonight I get to sleep in my own again, and my back will thank me for it tomorrow morning! At least coming back I had the sense to bring some actual coffee with me so I don’t have to go out in search of it somewhere else. And it was free, Grandma gave it to me, and while I don’t like it that much (she likes french roast, I don’t really like it that dark) I’m drinking it anyway. Free coffee is far to good to turn down.

I hated second shift, Swampy, about as much as it sounds like you hate third. You have my sympathy, whether you want it or not.

I did wash (half) the dishes and then put the laundry on. The main difficulty is that while the washer is on the hoses are very, very difficult to get around, and the stove’s on the blocked-off side.

Oh, well. Half done the dishes, bread is still rising, Stealth Onions are on, and in a few more hours I’ll have most of it done. Now I should tidy the bedroom. This is all terribly exciting.
