It’s not the tying that makes the ropes tight. Or so I’ve read somewhere. In an academic reference. Just wanted to straighten that out. ::halo::
Whew! I was hoping you weren’t going to ask because I don’t think I could have gone back and explained. I think the most relevant part was the end in terms of the parallel. And I think I remember that part vaguely. I’m glad you’re seeing it though since the theme was carried throughout the book. Dotty, good morning! Have a great day!
I think I’ll post two different songs tonight.
The first is a youtube of The Revelation Song that was sung in church yesterday. I won’t post the lyrics since I mostly liked the tune. And I think it’s so fascinating how this church is so into the whole thing. I especially liked the guy jumping up and down in the front.
And these are the lyrics from a muzak song that I heard while sitting in the dental hygienist’s chair today. (No cavities, mom! )
Poetry Man
[Phoebe Snow]You make me laugh
Cause your eyes they light the night
They look right through me
You bashful boy
You’re hiding something sweet
Please give it to me yeah, to me
Talk to me some more
You don’t have to go
You’re the poetry man
You make things all rhyme
You are a genie
All I ask for is your smile
Each time I rub the lamp
When I am with you
I have a giggling teen-age crush
Then I’m a sultry vamp[/Phoebe Snow]
Finished reading Bel Canto, which is an awesome book. By all rights it should be cheesy and saccharine, but instead, it’s amazing. Ann Patchett is a really really really gifted writer.
But, did I mention I’m awake? At 2:30 ish. And it’s been a couple hours.
Tigs… Tell her!!! :: pouts, tries to stomp foot, discovers it’s been tied down, and the movement just tightens the knot :smack::: )
Oh… so that’s what does it…
Well, t’ain’t me what’s misbehavin’. Jus’ sayin’… (::halo:: of my own)
Welcome to all the purple [del]n00bs[/del] new posters! Haze! behind you!
ems sounds like your dad is making a swift and complete recovery!
Dotty – The H***!? The manners of some people… At least it’s only 2(?) more nights of Iftar, then the madness of Id-al-Fitr itself, and back to normal for you!
Good Morning, everybody! (Yeah, “good night, Roo.” Weird hours you keep :p)
Oh, and – I’ve had it completely with puns for the week… so, no more, eh?
Morning all. Thanks for the songs Roo! Hey Nooner!
What day is it today? Tuesday? So by my count, that is 4 more nights of iftar to suffer through - Eid starts on Saturday, if the government website is right. The only good thing about that is that everyone will be stuffing my pockets with money for Noor! Yeah, it’s weird but they don’t give gifts here, just cash! So I am keeping my fingers crossed for a good haul for HRH, so we can go buy a high-chair and some safety gates!
Despite my anger and disgust at last night’s behaviour over my food offerings, I am still feeling inclined to cook today - I have a new recipe for “best-ever macaroni cheese” that I want to try out. Mind you, if it really is a best-ever recipe, I should probably keep it here where the leftovers will make it into the freezer for later in the week (or next week), rather than being dumped in the bin. That’s another thing that makes me  - fasting in Ramadan is supposed to help people remember how it feels to be poor and hungry, but every day the iftar table is overflowing with food, and whatever doesn’t get eaten (yesterday it was half the risotto and most of MIL’s rice pilaf and the beef and vegetable casserole) just goes in the rubbish!
Sorry, but no song this morning - too tired and grumpy! Still need to run the vacuum cleaner around and I have a big pile of clean laundry to sort and fold. Ciao for now!
ETA: Nooner, weren’t you supposed to come back and say, “no more, eh? Get, get it? ‘No more, eh?’ Ahhh, never mind …”
Dotty, after a demonstration of such rudeness by your husband’s family, I think you should deliberately cook them the foulest thing you can imagine and make them eat it.
It is a testament to your M-i-L’s cooking that most of her dishes went uneaten?
Bah! Nasty rainy day here, and the lizards I share an office with have decided we have to put the heating on. But it’s only October and it’s not even cold out there. What are they going to do when the cold weather comes?
Strange weekend on my part. I had an ambulance run Saturday night that was the weirdest yet. The woman was complaining of back pain, and the husband was bitching right back at her that there was nothing wrong. Both were well lubricated; enough so that the hubby passed out cold in the front of the unit, and slept through the time we spent at the hospital. We could not wake him with ammonia or a sternum rub, and the only thing that got a reaction out of him was by grabbing a big ol’ handful of daddy bits and squeezing hard.
She stayed at the hospital, and we took him home to sleep it off.
Our search exercise was boring for the most part, with lots of hiking in the woods. The one funny part was that the chief make up a batch of fake vomit for us to find, and colored it flourescent pink to make it obvious. While tracking the ‘victim’, nobody went far enough along the trail to see it. I was sent to find it, and found the bucket it was in, but not the stuff. Some critter had eaten it…
Oh, the VunderKind was at work Sunday, and was held up at gunpoint. He forked over the cash, and the perps left. He ran out of the store after them, flagged down a cop, told them what happened, and after a chase and a couple of collisions the car was stopped. Two of the three were caught right there, and the driver ran. The canine caught him (and I hope the pup chewed on him for a bit, too). VunderKind kept his cool, and didn’t start shaking until he got home. I’m proud of him…
Bobbio… wow! Good on the kid for acting responsibly and properly!
BooFae – I think October in England is probably cold enough to turn on the heating, too! Then again, anything under 10 C is c-c-c-c-c-oooooooold as far as this desert-dweller is concerned
Nooner - and I live in England 'cos deserts are far too hot for me! It’s lovely out there, it must be all of 15 degrees. Perfect for a little lunchtime stroll.
Glad VunderKind is safe BBBobbio. That’s the most important thing.
Good Mornin’/Whatever Y’all! I survived. I’m home, showered and have had a beerverage. Yes, a beerverage. It’s my after work time after all.
Soon I will toddle off to beddy bye I think. I’s tahred! ‘Twas a busy but uneventful night, meanin’ nuttin’ major broke down or exploded and stuff. Here’s hopin’ that holds true for the rest of the week.
I am. When he was a youngin, I tried very hard to teach him to fight, and to save his skin, and to impart enough sound judgement to know the difference. When you have three goons and a gun in your face, that’s not the time to start throwing game disks at the perps… (He manages a GameStop in a rough neighborhood)
Although, this WAS a situation where, had he clobbered all of them with a crowbar, the cops would have given him a medal instead of an arrest…
Yeesh. Your inlaws are utter troglodytes. They deserve ninjaing.
If it makes you feel better, it was 28C plus massive humidex here yesterday. It was disgusting. I’m sure Mork loved it.
I’m preparing for grocery shopping with tea and cinnamon toast. tinyninjachef has been making me feel sick a lot for the past couple of days. I plan to guilt-trip about this for his entire life. I finally feel okay today.
I should clean out the fridge before I go shopping. There’s also massive piles of unwashed dishes because we were using the washer most of yesterday, and that means the taps aren’t free. Worth it.
Morning, all. I’m caffeinating and trying to hang in there. My foot is not happy. I definitely am already looking forward to Tuesday and a respite from pain! Chronic pain, as those who have it know, is not fun. Especially when your doctor is an idiot about it.
BBBobbio, ! I’m glad VunderKind handled himself so well, though – it sounds like you taught him well. You should be proud of him.
LiLi, that’s what children are for – to install buttons that you can then push for the rest of their lives. Guilt is only part of the fun; just wait till you can add embarrassment to the mix.
I’m glad you survived your first night on third shift, Swampy. Here’s hoping things work smoothly at the plant all week so you can make lots of that [del]crappy[/del] [del]barely drinkable[/del] delicious beer.
Today is supposed to be our last hot day for a while. It’s already 76°F/24°C, and supposed to get up to 84°F/29°C, with lots of humidity because we’re supposed to have some thunderstorms. But that’s the front that’s supposedly going to bring us lovely cooler weather, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. The leaves won’t change colors spectacularly and look really pretty without a nice hard frost, after all, and what’s autumn without beautiful colors?
Back to work, alas. But at least I slept pretty well, although I had weird dreams that I fortunately don’t remember. Later, all!
 to** VundyKind’s** experience–I’m glad he’s OK.
Is there any way to lace the inlaws food with ex-lax or similar, Dotty? Usually, I’m not into pranks or passive/aggressive, but I’ll make an exception in this case. Let’s hope the dibs are in tune for HRH. They’d better pay up BIG.
I am up on a GORGEOUS day here. It’s 57 American, you do the math. I LIKE English weather, and hate heat, snakes, desert critters and sand. I’ll go mildew quietly with BooFae(well, it is a tad damp, but I’ll take it), the rest of you can get mummified in the dry air.
I am going on a bike ride today and then I have class. There are any number of household chores to be done, but I’m in denial about that. Work at 0530 again tomorrow etc, and then out of town this weekend! Yay!
Tuesday is the new Monday. At least for this week. It’s a good thing it’s a short one, too, as I’m already tired.
LiLi - I would have liked it if the building still had air conditioning. But that was turned off mid-september, so yesterday was all about exploring the word “sweltering.” I went out a few times yesterday, so that was a little more comfortable with a light breeze and all, but while indoors, not even two fans could blow the heat off’n us. So, no. “Enjoy” isn’t precisely the word. Even I have my limits.
Now it’s overcast and cooling though, and it’s gonna rain the rest of the week. Bleh.
VBob - Wow, VunderKind dun a good thing! I’m glad he’s okay though, and glad they caught the scum that did it. It isn’t every day you get (near-) instant justice like that.
Heff&Roo - Jorje (the pigeon) took off about 30 minutes or so after I posted that, do I didn’t get a chance to pass on the tidings. If he drops by again though I’ll let him know. I’ll also have to teach him to poop before he visits – or use a newspaper.
