That'd make a great video game!

I’d like to see a game I like to call Thieftaker - a fantasy RPG like Thief, except you’re a lawman, and have to stop crimes and capture criminals, with lots of detective work - heavily influenced by Pratchett’s Watch series, but darker in tone and in a more “traditional” fantasy city.

I’d love a 1st-person game which allowed you to wander freely through large, natural terrains, observing the many plants and animals as you climb hills, work your way along valleys, or whatever the terrain has to offer. Different areas would include forests, jungles, tundra, sandy deserts, mountain ranges, swamplands, coastal regions - anything our planet has to offer.

The fauna would interact. You could watch a pride of lions hunting wildebeest on the savannah, or bears fishing, or flocks of birds roosting, or marmosets doing whatever it is that marmosets do.

And why limit it to the present day? Let’s see dinosaurs and pterosaurs, or mastodons and smiledons, or even completely fictional animals, each in their appropriate habitat. An open framework would allow third parties to add new plants, animals and environments.

Oh, and I suppose you’d need a selection of fucking great big guns in order to sell this as a hunting sim to the masses. And if it were a hunting sim, it would have to be a deer-hunt in North America. That’s been done, several times. :o

Have they done a FPS in which you are NOT a human tank, mowing down enemies by the hundreds? I’d like to see a game in which you’re just an average schmoe who when faced with a crisis has to do the best he can. Strategy would include deciding it’s time to get the hell out of Dodge and run away.

Check out Afrika for the PS3.

Thanks, but I don’t have a PS3, or any other console for that matter - I’m a PC gamer. Sorry, I should have mentioned that.

It does look pretty spectacular, though.

Sounds a bit like the Carnivores series of games, you hunt dinosaurs and ice-age mammals. Lots of fun. They’re a bit old but still probably look impressive. The animals don’t interact though as far as I know.

As far as outdoor terrain with flora and fauna, mountains, grass, trees, and all that, try Oblivion. It is a RPG but you are free to wander around wherever you want and with a fast system it’s BEAUTIFUL. Like this, but really it’s better when you’re playing it real time: http://www.rampantgames.com/blog/uploaded_images/oblivion6-716085.jpg

That screenshot is a bit dark (I guess it’s sunset), try this one: http://www.rpgland.com/games/oblivion/oblivion2.jpg

Everything is real-time rendering, no static backdrops. If you see it you can walk/ride there.

I’d like a wide open (Oblivion-like GTA-like) game set in Victorian London where you play a Scotland Yard detective out to break up an opium ring and other such crimes. Alternately you could choose to play the criminal mastermind and play it from the other end.
