The 2009 NFL free agency thread

I doubt Goodell would be complicit in that bullshit. He’s gone.

A few weeks ago some sportswriter started a rumor of Cutler to Cleveland in exchange for Quinn and some combination of picks and/or Shaun Rogers. It was just a gag to show how easily rumors were spread.

So then Cutler is apparently sufficiently pissed and his time in Denver is over and he’s going to be traded. Quinn comes from a Weiss/NE style offense and might actually be a valid target for McDaniels. So now there are serious rumors about that potential trade. It’d be weird if what started as a gag to show how easy it is to start rumors actually ended up coming true.

It’s probably the most practical deal out there that I’ve heard, so the odds seem pretty decent.

I’m still clinging to the pipe dream that the Bears would have the onions to get some kind of deal done to bring him to Chicago.

He’s coming to Tampa. I can feel it in my third nipple.

We could trade him straight up for Kevin Smith!

Of course, the Broncos would have fleeced us with that deal…

I feel a Cartman coming on…

So… seriously… pissed… off… right… now…

Fucking McDaniels. My new Life Purpose is to load up my super soaker and douse him in boiling skunk juice.

Maybe for an encore he can set fire to Brandon Marshall’s house and then run over Champ Bailey with his car.

As a secondary Bears fan, I’d be somewhat consoled to see him end up there, though the odds are better that he’s a Lion before the season starts.

Is it too late for us to hire Matt Millen?

I’ve seen what Millen can do. I don’t wish that upon anyone.

The Broncos have announced that they expect to get 2 first round picks for Cutler and that getting a QB in return is not a requirement. If that’s actually the price I hope the Bears tell them to jam Cutler up their ass, I’m not sure anyone is worth 2 first rounders these days.

If the can get him for the 18th pick this year plus Orton and another contributor they have to do the deal. If they want next years 1st as well, no way. If we get back a 2nd of or a couple thirds with Cutler for those firsts then maybe you consider it.

What, really? Draft picks are way too highly valued in the NFL… especially first-rounders. 50% of first-round players are busts, so two first-round picks are essentially equivalent to one very good player.

Cutler’s not only a very good player, he’s a very good quarterback, with at least 10 years left in the NFL. Players like him coming available are rarer than rocking horse turds.

Confucius say: “Man who jam Cutler up ass, have shitty quarterback”.

I’m funny to me.

I agree that draft picks are substantially overvalued in the NFL, but they seem to be pretty universally overvalued - everyone seems to agree on them.

Cutler is easily worth 2 mid to late #1s. The problem is that most teams looking for a QB are drafting high, so you may be giving up 2 high picks. Still probably worth it, though.

The Lions should have drafted Cutler anyways, but that’s all ancient history now. Number 20 and next year’s first rounder could seal the deal. Can we get an additional 4th rounder or something from the Broncos?

It doesn’t matter how common a given delusion is; it’s still a delusion. Besides, people seem to want to avoid the #1 overall pick and its cousins #s 2-5 like the plague.

Donte Stallworth charged with DUI manslaughter.

According to the story, he had a blood alcohol of .126 when he killed the pedestrian. The charge is “a felony that carries a minimum of four years to a maximum of 15 years in prison.”

I hope he serves the full 15, but I know that ain’t gonna happen. I also hope he never plays another down in the NFL. Stupid fucker.

(And to keep this closer to on topic: Browns will indeed be looking for some more WRs now.)

Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler to Cleveland for the Browns’ entire roster.

I want to agree with this. I want to have Cutler as the Bears QB for the next decade, but I don’t want to watch a Bears team with Cutler, Forte, Briggs an aging Urlacher and no one else. If we give away our next 2 first rounders who the fuck is Cutler going to throw to?

As I type this!!!

Cutler is a BEAR!!!

This is essentially what I mused upon. They gave to two first rounders, but they are getting another pick back. If it’s a pick on the first day, a 2nd or 3rd rounder, I like the deal a bunch.

Now it’s time for me to start praying that Kenny Britt slides to the Bears in the second round. Please please please.

Wow. Denver got fleeced. Are you telling me that they couldn’t have made a similar deal with Cleveland and got back Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn? Senor Beef, if I were you, I’d be pissed now.

The Sun-Times is claiming the Bears gave “No. 1 draft picks in 2009 and 2010, a No. 3 pick this year and Kyle Orton”. I hope that’s a typo and that were are getting a 3rd, not giving. 3 draft picks and a starting QB is WAY TOO MUCH.
