The 50 states of television

Coach was set in Minnesota. The first season of The Jeff Foxworthy Show was inexplicably set in Bloomington, Indiana.

Oklahoma - Cimarron Strip (In reruns I saw it listed as just Cimarron)

Louisiana - Yancy Derringer

Arizona - Cochise, Tombstone Territory, Wyatt Earp (that last one for one seasons).

Kansas - Wyatt Earp (for three seasons), Gunsmoke, Bat Masterson.

Something tells me Idaho’s going to be left out in the cold here.

Idaho - Amazing Grace

**Montana ** - Lonesome Dove, My Friend Flicka

**West Virginia ** - Hawkins

Yes, but the producers said it was loosely based on Buffalo, NY.

I think the idea is to get one or two shows for every state, and California is already well-represented. Every show takes place somewhere, after all, and “somewhere” usually translates to LA or Manhattan.

I think the New York and Massechussettes entries in the OP contradict that.

Someone mentioned that Chicago Hope was set in Illinois, but ER is, also.

(Re: Grace Under Fire. Yes, it was set in Missouri, but all the exterior still shots were taken in my neighborhood in Illinois!)

Where was Grizzley Adams set?

Where was The Andy Griffith Show set?

Funny, I just always assumed Hill Street Blues was set in NYC. That’s what I get for not watching it, I guess. Little House on the Prairie, OTOH, I watched a lot of, and yet I could’ve sworn Walnut Grove was in Kansas, not Minnesota. Oh well.

That leaves us with Delaware, Nebraska, South Carolina and Utah as the TV orphans so far.

What? You sully the colors of the glorious flag of Maryland with your scurrilous comments!! May a thousand camel fleas infest your armpits.

The Andy Griffith Show was set in Mayberry, North Carolina (and is on the list). The imdb listing for Grizzly Adams just says “in the wilderness”.

Since we’ve got The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart on the list, does anyone remember where Bob was set?

High Mountain Rangers with Robert Conrad was set in Nevada.

If you’re looking for a New Hampshire show that lasted more than three episodes, Peyton Place, at least in the novel and movie, was supposed to be in NH. But I haven’t been able to confirm the same for the series. I assume it should be, but…

Queer as Folk is set in Pittsburgh. I don’t know if it counts, though, being a cable series.

You can add Double Trouble (the Sagal twin vehicle) to the Iowa list. It was set in Des Moines.

Maryland
Homicide

*The Pretender * - Delaware

Rachel Gunn, R.N. - Nebraska

*American Gothic * - South Carolina
The Swamp Fox - South Carolina

The Brothers Garcia, a kid’s show on Nickelodeon, is set in San Antonio.

I think Get Smart was also set in DC.
