the almost turkey day mmp

Thanks for that Sweet Potato Souffle recipe - I’m going to make it! I may not even wait till Thanksgiving! It sounds very yum!

RoxStar just woke from her nap and she’s having 'nana and Sesame Street. That kid lurves bananas!!! And blueberries. And applesauce. And peaches and pears. And green beans. She is rather fond of healthy foods - yay!

I’ve been thinking about writing my letter of resignation - I need to make it official. I was going to do it via email, but I think I need to do the paper route.

SEE YA!!!"[/INDENT]

Let the stuffing v dressing argument begin. Stuffing is cooked in the bird. Dressing is cooked outside the bird. Same recipe. To make it the proper Naomi way (my mother’s turkey dinner was so well loved that people talked about it at her funeral), the 2 are mixed prior to serving because the dressing can be a bit dry (despite the 2 sticks of melted butter and chicken stock).

Butters, I’m using the patch. Some days I’ve had to put a new one on mid-day…

That’s the way I always thought it, stuffing is stuffed into something, dressing is made on the side.
Then there is Stove Top ‘Stuffing’, which is an abomination and an assault on the taste buds.

I’m not going back out, it looks too miserable and I feel lazy anyway.
I so have one important phone call I keep forgetting to make.

No idea what we’re doing for Thanksgiving because Da Jungle has yet to tell us if I’m working or not. The old place we always did but this place closed last year for the day. I think they may announce tomorrow when they feed us our holiday meal.

Last night I grilled hamburgers out and tonight am doing leftover stew.

Other than that no excitement.

I don’t care if you call it stuffing or dressing - I don’t eat any of it.

Supper was good, dishes are washing, daughter is home so I’m off Roxy duty. It’s been a day.

The last of five loads of laundry is washing now. Only two loads of ‘necessaries’ (everyday clothing needs), the others are all my soccer stuff + sweatshirts/sweatpants, two large blankets for around the house, and the towels are currently finishing up.

Eating cheese bread for dinner because I can, should then run the dishwasher, as it will take nearly as long as the Moanday Night Tackleball game. Kitchen needs some attention tomorrow, sweeping and mopping and some of the appliances need a Formula 409 cleansing.

Like you, Moooommm, I’m not a dressing/stuffing person, the turkey and potatoes/noodles are good enough for me. And I may have my letter saying bye-bye somewhere around here; if I find it, I’ll send you a copy.

All y’all have a good evening.

I read that Victorian folks started calling it dressing because stuffing somehow sounded too crude. We called it “dressing” growing up in Chicago, and Mom stuffed it in the turkey. But what did we know?

Two yippees today! First, I found my phone, which I’d left at the grocery store yesterday. The customer service guy said, “By any chance, would it have been going off all morning?” Oops. I have no landline. Should I get one? I’d only use it if I lost my cell phone, which I do on a regular basis.

My other yippee is that maintenance came and fixed all the issues, except that the light over the stove won’t turn off now. Hey, can’t have everything!

Yay! My bulbs are planted. Now to keep my eyes peeled for thieving squirrels til the bulbs are seated well. I came in and cleaned up and thought about ordering some crocus bulbs. (Nooooooo! Beck you don’t need any more bulbs. Stop it, girl) Yeah, I kinda talk to my self, alot (;))
Nellie- once my Daddy was alone for Thanksgiving. With all us sibs it shouldn’t have been possible. We took the kids on a trip to Florida that year. But, anywhoo, he bought a cornish hen. And made himself a tiny thanksgiving meal. He took pictures and made copies. We all got one for Christmas that year. How’s that for a guilt-trip?
We’ll all be here on the Dope, well I will part of the day… You can join our thanksgiving meals, vicariously. I hope my bunch doesn’t start arguing about football or the best lawnmowers, or something. So embarrassing when you you have guests (;)).

Have a good evening, y’all.
Gotta eat. And feed the pets.

butters, one of my friends up north had a toddler and two young cats one year at Christmas. She wound up putting the tree in her daughter’s outgrown playpen. :stuck_out_tongue:

nellie, I’ve had a couple of Thanksgivings that I couldn’t get away to go see family. Fortunately, there were friends who held an annual orphans and strays Thanksgiving. I usually wind up there for a bit on Christmas too.

spidey, a couple of decades ago, when I still had a landline, my number was one digit off a local used car dealer. Sometimes it got aggravating because I worked second shift and slept later than some of the calls, but for the most part, I’d have a bit of fun with repeat callers. (“sold” a late model Caddy for an absurdly low price once to a guy who just couldn’t quit mis-dialing).

vito, I’ll go up to my dad’s for Thanksgiving. Given my age, I am now the generation in charge of the meal. There will be no turkey, but a small ham and a mountain of German and Polish food that he grew up with but doesn’t know how to cook himself.

Well, the announcement that my department got Friday has gone out to Operations and the local news media. The company has had a layoff of around 300 people (all mid to upper management) of the ~8K employees locally. One of the ones that got the axe was the one that was gung ho about us being in uniform. Oh, well. The new head of operations at my facility is an old one that I got along well with. Tomorrow I’ll get the changes made on the distribution lists.

I’m so ready to have a week off. I’m down to five working days now.

with blackie that never worked … she just started her howling fron 8pm to 10 pm when we fed her …wed get a few weeks peace when we switch off of dst byt shed soon get her bearing and the howling would start …
Only 3 or 4 times in the 18 years of her life she was fed early…

Tonight I simmered a couple of large tilapia filets in spaghetti sauce. After cooking some angel hair pasta, I heated some sun-dried tomatoes w/olive oil and some garlic and then added the drained pasta back in. I had a Longboard Lager before dinner, a glass of chianti with dinner, and I’m having another glass of chianti now. Mrs. L.A. liked dinner. It makes me happy when she likes what I cook.

The cats got gooshy food after we ate… and a few bites of fish while we ate.

Howdy Y’all! Home from men’s night over to the church house. We had a good crowd and 'twas fun as usual. I did manage to spiff da cave, deal with the leaky terlet, and prep stuff for tomorrow night’s sup, which shall also be Hump Day’s sup as there will be plenty of leftovers. Good thing we don’t mind leftovers.

Vito marshmallows on sweet N.O.T. are an abomination unto all that is righteous, decent, holy, and couth. Tzi that souffle (souffle always looks like it’s spelled wrong) is what I knew as Senator Russell’s Sweet N.O.T. Souffle growin’ up. I still make it and 'tis always nummy. I do make it sometimes just cause.

My cats do scream for dinner, but they’re not waking me up at zero dark thirty so I’m fine with it.
Hubby is off to Texas today for work. Some of my meds have been shipped to New Hampshire for reasons known only to the post office. I got my latest round of paper-irk for the disability folks all wrapped up and accepted. Overall, a good day. I’d like my meds though. :frowning:

I forgot to feed the outside cat. Antlers or Gruffy or whatever her name is.
I don’t see her much anymore.

I didn’t have to make the important phone call as I was able to handle it online. So much quicker and easier that way.

My son has a major assignment due tomorrow morning, so lots of proofreading for me tonight, as well as listening to him bitch about the assignment. I’m no help on this one, he had to find a job, and write up a cover letter and resume. He won’t be submitting it for real.
I’m no good at this kind of stuff.

One of my dinner plates has a crack in it, so I guess it is going in the trash. My plates are over 30 years old, I got them way back when when you got a free dish when you bought groceries. I like them, but I suppose they aren’t going to last forever.

Oh, the Princess still yells at me about her dinner, she’s just not now waking up way early on days off when I want to sleep.

First, by smoking the turkey, the oven is freed up for any/all side dishes. It’s hard to bake stuff at one temp while the bird is in there (& taking up most of the shelf space) at a different temp.

Second, it’s nummy. Go to your local supermarket deli & get some sliced turkey. Then think about ten times better. Although we have a few of those here, I’m not a fan of the electric ones. I [del]am down to[/del] have two smokers. A traditional horizontal barrel with offset firebox & a vertical propane one. Tend to use that for Thanksgiving because it’s easier to keep it at the desired temp when it’s cold & windy out. The flavor, the texture, the pink ring you get from smoking; all goooood!

I didn’t know you were a cannibal.

Can I haz your portion?

The Siamese have always awakened me early. I’ve tried many tricks to keep them asleep. Nothing worked. These 2 cats have truly taken over my life. I adore them and want only for them to be happy, healthy and long lived.

(If it kills me:))

Beck, THANK YOU! I’ll be there in spirit. And I’ll happily wash dishes! I always thought it unfair that women slave away in the kitchen while men typically watch football, but then I realized I was having a better time talking and laughing in the kitchen.

Question for everyone: if you could have only one dish at Thanksgiving dinner, what would it be?

Mine is dressing. I mean stuffing! The cubed bread stuff!

On a topic other than turkey, is it just me, or is there something…interesting…about the end of this ad when all the docs are together? https://vimeo.com/333395185

What is it that one doc tossing?
