Oh, yeah, a live chicken is much better than the Roaming Gnome, but I was waiting for someone to start commenting (or screeching) that the chicken pooped or peed on them.
AFAIK the clue just said that they had to have the chicken with them to check in, not that the chicken had to be alive. Once those chickens went in the bags I don’t recall hearing another peep out of the chickens.
Those were some of the most docile animals to ever appear on The Amazing Race. I never heard a chicken as much as cluck once in the bag, and the baby goats looked like they had been fed a breakfast of Olde English 800 and quaaludes.
I wonder if next week’s show will start with a shot of all the racers sitting around enjoying a chicken dinner.

Is this show available to watch anywhere online? Goddamn football pushed it back a whole hour so that when the show finally did start, my DVR was already set to record on two separate channels and since I wasn’t home I couldn’t switch over to CBS. Even though I had told it to record an extra hour.
I still haven’t seen the last few 10 minutes or so of the show, but it was obvious to me which team would get eliminated. Good show, and I like the new U-turn aspect. I think that’s one of the suggestions that was talked about here during the last season actually. It was nice to see a team use an option like this strategically, instead of a panic decision. It doesn’t matter if you see a team coming up right behind you, you want to U-turn/Yield the team that is in last place. That way they’re even more likely to get knocked out of the competition.
I think in one of the seasons they showed teams putting their pictures someplace else when they reached the Yield. Maybe they move them to another box or something? I know we’ve talked about this before. But with 10 seasons, there are way too many threads to read through to find it.
Atrael - I’d disagree about always using the U Turn on the last place team. If the last place team is quite far behind, and you’re third from last, it would be better to use it on the team right behind you. You’re going to gain a time advantage by being to the mat first, so you leave that much earlier than whoever ended last. If the last place team is an hour behind you and the 2nd to the last place is three minutes behind, it’s better to gain that time advantage on the next leg.

I suggested a three-choice Detour that required each partner to complete one of the choices separately, which I still think would be a great idea for at least the final leg.
I can’t remember where I read it, but I think the teams are supposed to take their picture out themselves when they get to the u-turn (well, to the Yield, I assume it is the same for a U-turn).
You’re right. Depending on how far the last team is behind you, and what team that is, it’ll be a different call. For example if the team behind you is a fairly good racing team that just had bad luck at the airport or something but you know is good at doing tasks, then Yielding (or U-turning) them may or may not have any advantage aside from pissing them off. On the other hand if as you say the last place team is way way behind you, then U-turning (or Yielding) them is just a waste since they wouldn’t have caught up anyway.
I finally got around to watching this episode and that’s exactly what Azaria did when they got to the U-Turn, so I’d assume all the teams did it.
