Tonight is the round of 4, with (presumedly) 3 legs remaining in the race. This would require either this week or next week to be a non-elimination leg. Allegedly, there’s a Yield this week. Would there be a Yield on a NEL?
Personally, I’m hoping it’s a normal leg, and Team Alabama continues their practice of never finishing in the top three. But if tonight is a NEL, and there’s still two legs to go, then we’d have another NEL right before the final leg, which to me misses the point.
If there is a Yield, my personal strategy would be to not waste it on Alabama. If I were the first of the three good teams to reach the Yield, I’d drop it on whoever I thought was third of those teams, hoping to force them to fall behind and get eliminated.
Please remember to SPOILER BOX information about unaired legs. Some of us prefer not to know things like destinations ahead of time.
So anyway, yes, final four. Last week it was Cho Long, Suckas and Tanks for the Memories. Tonight, Team Beauty Queen, Team Ugly American, Team Brokeback Models and Team Go Home Alabama (think Skynard) battle to see who gets to mis-use the Yield.
Remember to set your recorders late to allow for football delays.
I thought I remembered early in the race that Phil said there were only two NELs…and we have had two already. However, I do see that tonight is marked episode 11 with a spot for episode 12 and then a box marked “finish”. However the finish box is larger than the episode boxes, so perhaps tonight is the next to last episode, instead of the 3rd to the last.
Open spoilers to follow. It’s 9PM Eastern time.****
I seriously dislike the Baba girls. They are extremely hypocritical and have given me a bad vibe since the first episode of the race.
They got mad that the BQs yielded them, but they were going to yield the Barbies. I’m actually surprised that the Barbies didn’t get yielded by the boys or Rob and Kim. It would have been smart.
And whether you like the BQs or not, you have to admit they are competitors. All of the other teams are constantly worried about them. That should be looked at as a compliment to their competitiveness. I disagree with those who think they are wrong for not helping people. It’s a race…and they are racing. There have been a few times where I thought they made a less than honorable decision, but rarely (if ever) have I seen them do anything that I actually thought was “wrong”.
The boys thought “throwing” pottery actually meant throwing it? Tell me I heard that wrong.
I cannot believe the order that everyone finished in tonight. The BQs did make a mistake though. Unusual for them but I cannot believe between the yield and the flat tire they still got so far behind.
I’m happy about the ending though. I’m rooting for the team that all the other teams hate. I think I would usually be against them, too, but they race hard and they don’t give up. They rarely act ugly toward one another and I don’t think (though I may be wrong) that they say ugly personal things about the other teams.
Yeah, it would be funny, if it wasn’t so annoying. Why is it ok to plan to use the yield, but a sign of the BQ’s lack of character that they use it on you?
(On the other hand, I was amused by the fact that the yielded team managed to beat the team that yielded them overall).
Drat. Had something else I was going to type but it went poof.
It came back. On the other hand, I was a bit amused by the degree of smugness about good strategy exhibited by the BQ’s-- and that was before I knew that not being able to find the detour cost them more time than they gained from the yield.
The more I watch, the more I root for the BQs, because they are the only ones NOT constantly whining about the other teams. Team Bama was absolutely ridiculous with their carping about being yielded. First of all, they were the only team that the BQs could yield. Secondly, they were chuckling the night before about how great it would be when they yielded the BQs. But now, it is a sign of their low character that the BQs instead yielded them? Finally, maybe you should stop slowly strolling to the yield marker. You know, act like you are in a RACE.
I don’t know if I would agree they were being smug so much as simply explaining their decision to the camera. I think they are starting to feel like they have to defend every decision because the other teams are so defensive anytime the BQs don’t help them, even if they would have done the same thing. It is a race and everyone else acted so offended that the BQs used it, though Rob and Kim and the Baba girls discussed using it on the BQs. I don’t remember if Tyler and James said anything about using it or not.
On preview, I agree with Frostillicus. The girls don’t whine about the other teams, and I doubt they would have whined about how bad another team was if they had been the one yielded. They would have hated it and would have been mad, but I think they would have been mad at themselves for putting themselves in a vulnerable position instead of mad at the other racers for racing.
Yes, the Maddicts apparently thought that “throwing a pot” was actually throwing a pot. I had a moment watching that. I think I caught my breath from the laughing about two minutes later.
Smug is probably not the right word. But there was something about the way they explained their choice for the camera which struck me as odd, and I can’t come up with a better word than smug. But I’ll grant that smug is probably not a good word to describe their attitude.
I agree. Tyler & James or Rob & Kimberley should have yielded the BQs. As it was, the BQs didn’t need to yield Team Alabama. However, I support the principle of “Do unto others before they do unto you.” And hoo boy, did Alabama want to do unto the BQs.
QFT. They moseyed to the yield box, and lost a chance to ream the BQs. Then at the end they were in a foot race to the mat, for first for crying out loud, and they moseyed AGAIN! They don’t have the competitive spirit. These ladies need to head home.
Still, the leg came down to the racing, not the airplane travel, as all good racing should be. If the BQs hadn’t missed the sign for the Detour, if Rob & Kimberley figured out that three teams were going for one Detour and chosen the other, … who knows how the leg would have played out.
Also, thanks to whichever friendly mod who fixed the thread title!
Nope, the finale is definitely scheduled for Dec. 10. So that means two more episodes to go.
I did hear Kimberly ask the ticket agent for a flight from Kiev to Casablanca, and then one from Casablanca to Morroco, didn’t I? :smack:
I cannot BELIEVE Karlyn flipped off the BQs. That woman needs an anger management class. As well as a “How Not To Be A Hypocrite 101” class. Plus Yielding someone is not an indication of poor character; in the BQs case, it was exactly the right move to make, to give themselves some breathing room ahead of the team behind them.
The BQs must really be feeling some Killer Fatigue to have made so many navigation mistakes. Not that you’d be able to tell by the smiles permanently pasted on their faces. That pageant training really shows in the smiles, doesn’t it? I think that partly explains their apparently smug attitude, too; they never stop smiling even when they’re explaining a fairly cutthroat action. It makes them seem pleased with what they’re doing, whereas I suspect they smile all the time quite unconsciously at this point.
I really, really hope the BQs can overcome their 30-minute penalty and beat Alabama next leg. Because it would really suck to have those two whiny bitches in the hunt for a million dollars.
Yeah, I don’t think the Bama moms were moseying by choice–that’s just their top speed.
I’ve been pulling for the BQ’s the whole race and this episode had me really worried. First with not making their connecting flight in Milan, and then their poor navigating throughout the rest of the leg, it was definitely a bad couple of days for them. Thank god for NEL’s!
I SO hope the mean Bama moms go home next week. I am sure they were watching tonight’s episode and still thinking about what horrible people the blondies are for using the yield on them before they could use it on the blondies.
Really, how would that challenge work? Would there be two giantic pots that they had to throw. Several normal sized ones with two special pots that needed to be smashed? Going for distance?
I kept picturing the Boys going all Zelda on a room full of pots.
-Fine the clue yet?
-Nah. I found 20 rupees and 4 and a half hearts though.
-Sweet.
I flat out refuse to believe that Team Brokeback Models didn’t really know what “throwing” a pot meant. I mean come on, they were in rehab together! Rehab is all about the arts and crafts!
I do not understand why neither Team Brokeback Models nor Team Ugly Americans Yielded the BQs. Obviously no one’s worried about Team Go Home Alabama and you have a chance at putting one of the two other leading teams (in the case of BBM) or one of the leading teams (in the case of UA) an extra half hour or so behind you and you don’t do it? Stupid. Of course GHA’s plan to Yield the BQs because they hate them was equally stupid, almost Cho-like in its incidental smartness had they gotten there first. Of course GHA should have Yielded the BQs had GHA gotten there first, but not because of the hate but because it was as far as GHA knew at the time they made the decision the best course of action for staying in the race. And, as are so very many of you, I am so tired of the Yield being viewed as a fucking morality play. The BQs are the first team I can think of who used the Yield the way it is supposed to be used, to gain a time advantage over an opponent, instead of as a comment on how wonderful or awful the team is.
It kind of sucked that the Yield was behind the locked gate. Much as I don’t care for GHA, they kind of deserved to claim the Yield for having such a strong opening portion of the leg. Not that in the end it mattered but it’s another example of an artificial bunch. The Yield could’ve been outside the gate just as easily.
On another note, this was the Week of the Fern! Have we ever seen so many Ferns in one leg? It was Ferntastic! It was a Fernucopia!
I wonder if for the next Race they’re going to jigger the rules a little regarding hiring a taxi to guide yourself around? There seems to have been a marked increase in taxi guides this season. Which on the down side is kind of boring but which on the up side it is comical to see teams getting led astray by drivers who don’t know how to get around their own towns.
Next week: Rob and Kimberly get pelted by tomato-wielding villagers! I’M SO THERE! I was literally bouncing in my chair squaling and clapping like a seal at the sight of it.
