The Amazing Race - 2/1

I just thought it was funny that she of the breeding comment was calling foul on discrimination…

And I agree with annieclaus about the demeaning nature of the non-elims. Someone a few weeks ago pitched the idea that the last place team keeps their cash, but has to do an extra roadblock type challenge.

Yes, I hate the no cash penalty. An extra roadblock would be cool. Or maybe you just have to leave an extra hour later… 2 hours later… whatever. I just hate the begging.

After one of the teams ranted about this, the camera focused on a decal in the cab of a phone. Maybe you are supposed to phone, not hail?

My favorite moment was Rebecca calling Hellboy “Baby”… “Don’t call me that anymore!” “Okay, asshole” “That’s better!”

(That’s what my last post was in reply to.)

Actually, what he said was that he has never heard them argue before. He was surprised to hear them talking like that.

No one else has mentioned Hayden’s whining during the brick task? “Honey! Help me! Honey! I’m carrying as much as you are and you weigh 200 lbs!” She had quite a few things to say along those lines but it was annoying me too much to try and remember them. I don’t like her at all.

Rebecca was the one complaining about the locals laughing. I was laughing…whatcha got to say about that 'Becca?

I was so worried that Kris and Jon were going to come in last, I’d forgotten we still had one more non-elim to go. I’d have to stop watching this season if Adam and Rebecca made it past Kris and Jon because of something dumb like that.

It surprises me that Adam and Rebecca never told Freddy and Kendra that they yielded them because of * and Victoria. Seems like the kind of whining they would do: “We only yielded you because they toooooollllld us to!”

Is anyone else happy that TAR is finally getting its due? Seems that the new Bachelorette episode features an AR-style race for a rose. And Phil’s video summary is now prominently featured on the CBS home page. Looks like the ratings are building! Viva la AR!

From the leaderboard:

Hayden/Aaron I’m beginning to agree with whoever said last week that Hayden freaks out because Aaron is such a useless tool. They got totally taken on their cab ride from the airport and he just sat there, continuing to take it. If this year’s final Roadblocks are anything like that last ones, they’re doomed. Why the hell would they have Aaron use up his last Rodblock before the finale?

Freddy/Kendra: Why is Kendra not disgusted by Shanghai? Simple. It’s anything but a third world area now, one of the world’s rich cities. Depending on where they go next, Kendra’s tolerance will be a determining factor for this team.

Kris/Jon: Man, is this team melllllllllllllllllow. No sleep, horrible jet lag, who knows how little food, and, what was it, their third cabbie who had no clue? And the worst phrase I can think of to describe their reaction is “A Bit Snippy”? Contrast that with Adam’s patented “Terminal Nihilistic Defeat” in the face of adversity and Jonathan’s “DefCon One Batshit Insane”. Go K & J!

Adam/Rebecca I love how Freddy just openly ridicules Adam now. I like the Yield if only for that. Which was probably what the producers had in mind: petulant sound bites. Anyway, this team is toast, so 'nuff said.

i thought the episode was lukewarm. Maybe because there are fewer teams, or maybe because I don’t really care about the teams, or maybe becuase it just was boring.

I hope this isn’t settled by who gets a better cab, because that just sorta sucked last night watching Jon & Kris(?) just sitting there and possibly getting booted because of it. Let them race in little bikes or something, but not cabs.

Adam just keeps looking weirder and weirder with those devil horns. Am I too old, is that popular amongst the young?? Eeow.

I hate to say this, but i think KKKendra & Freddy might win. Don’t want them too, but… Then again, if it ends somewhere in Africa, with all that breeding going on, they’re history.

It has to end in the US, and they’re running out of 3rd world countries as they go west-to-east.

Have all of them ended in the US? I remember San Francisco…

I think the first ended in Alaska, and two seasons ago was New York, IIRC? Don’t remember where the rest ended, but I’m fairly sure they were all in the US

Last season, when I finally started watching this show, they ended in Arizona.

They do say that it’s a race around the world.

All the races have ended in the US:

[li]TAR1: New York[/li][li]TAR2: San Francisco[/li][li]TAR3: Seattle[/li][li]TAR4: Phoenix[/li][li]TAR5: Dallas[/li][/ul]

Yawn…is it over yet?

I’m obviously in a minority: I thought this episode was coma-inducingly dull. There were two bunch points and from there it was nothing but a “Who gets a good cab” contest. All the contests required was either the guts to take that first step off the edge or a strong back–all the groups seemed to take about the same amount of time for each team to accomplish. And episodes that come down to “Who gets the better cab” are (IMO) flawed.

The “ice” task should have been the roadblock–at least it would have added an element of brains to the episode. The bricks could have been combined with something else–learning a Tai Chi move perfectly before the master gives you a clue, for example.

Well, the “Guidos” were in Alaska, 24 hours behind, when they received a note saying that Rob & Brennan had just crossed the finish line. Since they were the last racers to find out that the Race was over, I guess you could argue that it “ended” there.

In season 4, I think it was, when the race ended in Phoenix, two teams were in Phoenix competing for the finish line and the 3rd place team was still back in Hawaii after choosing awful connections. They were advised in Hawaii that the race was over also by getting a “note”. I don’t remember the names of the team members, though.

The Guidos in contrast, were very memorable. Personally I wasn’t the least disappointed when they got the news.

Finally saw this ep after doing my own travelling, and I’m only mildly surprised that comments stopped 24 hours after the show aired. The episode really did come down to who had the better cab, especially since the teams started just minutes apart after the mad water scramble.

At this point in the race it’s really just come down to who is more awake, who is able to read a clue, and who can get a faster cab. That’s pretty damn sad.
