And how many times has she had a near-breakdown? Next weeks another one.
If the ChaCha’s hadn’t done that, they wouldn’t have had enough money to finish. Smart move.
So, Mirna, if Oswald & Danny hadn’t sold their Yield, you’d have been happy to give them some money. They’re thousands of miles from home with only 45 dollars; you could give them some more.
When D & O’s cab driver took them to the end of the Detour, instead of the beginning, I said to myself “you know where the boats are now. Pay attention to where the cab goes so you can find your way back.” And one of them said something later that made me think he had the same idea. I’ve no idea why it didn’t work.
And who was it who said “domo arigato”? Nice attempt to be multi-cultural, there. “Domo arigato” means “thank you very much”. In Japanese.
I think the Amazing Editors are very good at making Charla & Mirna’s minor catastrophes look worse than they are. Getting the Mini Moke stuck on the sidewalk, cutting back and forth, having the bus honking at them, it was probably no big deal. The Moke is a variant of the old Austin Mini, and even the heaviest version only weighs 1275 pounds. Put that sucker in neutral and one person could roll it off the curb, easy. I think C & M are as good at getting out of jams as they are at getting into them, and it doesn’t cost them much time.
I’m probably rooting for the Beauty Queens at this point. They’re nice to each other, I don’t remember any inter-team snarkiness or drama that they instigated, they seem to be enjoying themselves, and they’re good racers.
Danny & Oswald said “Obrigado”, Portuguese for “Thank you”. Given that Macao was a Portuguese colony (as Hong Kong was a British one) until recently, it’s likely that most people speak some Portuguese as well as Chinese.
I thought the funniest thing last night was when Oswald said about his clueless taxi-driver…
“God, grant me the serenity to blah, blah, blah, and to give me the
intelligence to hide the body of this taxi-driver”
( or something along those lines )
The Serenity Prayer version I prefer ends: “… and the superior firepower to make the difference.”
Well, asinine as it sounds, I just watched this episode. I agree, very lackluster.
The Yield is, at this point, a well established part of the Race. It’s been in more races now than it has not been. I still don’t care for it much, I don’t think it adds anything interesting to the proceedings.
It’s not so much that using it is immoral, it’s just part of the whole psychological game that the Yield is all about. The team that Yields throws a monkey wrench in the thought processes of the Yielded team, meanwhile, if not eliminated, the Yielded team can rag on the Yielders for being pussies and not being willing to race against them on even ground.
The whole thing’s a waste of time in my opinion. Bring back the Fast Forward on every leg, I say!
