The Amazing Race 4/29: "Oh My God The Teletubbies Go To War"

thog scared!

It’s more Rob than Amber. I just love the way he plays these games. All of them. He is street-smart about his approach. He plays fair but brilliantly. But TAR is so much luck so often that he got eliminated. He’s my favorite reality TV player, and I just think he deserves some special recognition, that’s all.

Gotta agree there. Rob & Amber are probably in my top five Amazing Race teams (The BQs and Chas are there too, so I’ve enjoyed the All Star edition for sure).

He’s stupid and arrogant. Too much like Dubya to be even remotely likeable. You don’t need to think well of him. He thinks well enough of himself that he needs no further validation.

I would like to see C&M win. I like their moxy. They’ve hung in there and worked hard - best of all, they’ve learned from their mistakes and gotten smarter as they go along. I like that in a team. They might’ve gotten a bit snippy with other teams once or twice, but they’re not bitchy, which you can’t say about the BQs. I’d like Danielle to win, but that means Eric would win, which would suck.

I’m just… flabbergasted. Why on earth would you say that? He is humble and self-effacing, giving his air-headed hanger-on far more credit than she deserves. I mean, if you’re gonna take things like “We’re gonna win!” as arrogant, then you have to fault everybody. Nobody says, “We’re gonna lose,” do they?

Rob talks freely in the confessionals, giving his plans away. He’ll say something like, “We’re gonna let 'em hang themselves,” but only as a matter of information. He explains exactly how he plans to give them rope. And yes, he expresses satisfaction when it works out, but why shouldn’t he? That’s nothing more than a healthy self-esteem. Don’t forget how gracious he was when they were eliminated. He didn’t whine that he didn’t play well; he gave credit to the other teams.

Huh? Or, rather, huh? Are you talking about Bahston Rahb whose main subject of discourse is his own wonderfulness? TAR took a gleeful poke at him for that in the leg where they got eliminated, showing him bragging about himself yet again at the beginning of that ep.

Yeah, I quite like Rob, but humble is not one of the words I would use to describe him. And “steal the spot light from him”? Rob & Amber were eliminated. They get to stand there at the finish line, be on camera for 3 seconds and not say anything, like all the other teams that didn’t make it to the final leg.

One of the things that always amazes me about discussing this type of show on the internets is that someone out there will always have such a wildly different opinion from your own that you have to wonder if you’re watching the same program. Quiddity also finds the BQs to be “bitchy,” and I can’t fathom where that is from. Especially compared to the likes of Mirna, who has been rude to them all the way through the race.

I like Rob & Amber, too…I think he is a great reality contestant, really, really good at it. But I have to say that as far as this season is concerned, the spotlight is no longer theirs to have taken away. They lost fair & square.

As far as the final 3 are concerned, I am really pulling for the BQs…I think they have been great competitors, and I love them for not be whiny, like a lot of women are on the race. Good for them.

I’m also hoping that the BQ’s win it all. Of the teams left so far, they’re the only ones that really haven’t been that bitchy. They’ve run the race very well, and seemed to be pretty much nice to everyone. Now maybe that’s because the amazing editors have chosen to only show them in the best light, but so far they’ve come across as good racers without nearly the bitchiness of either E&D or the M&C.

I liked Romber, admire their racing skills, and wish they’d gone farther. But they flamed out spectacularly on this race because Rob couldn’t spell “Phillipines” and didn’t think to walk the few feet to double-check his spelling. Not exactly brilliant mad race skillz.

I wasn’t a big ChaCha fan until the last few weeks – they definitely grew on me. “Teletubbies go to war” is the single funniest line in the history of this show. But demerits to the Chas for rooting for Shmirna.

I’m pulling for BQ all the way. Distressed to see them squabbling in next week’s preview.

Me, too, and me, too. Although given that the editors have a tendency to make things look way worse in the previews than in the program, I’m guessing it’s not as bad as it first appears.

Not that anybody’s interested in my < $.02…

I really like Danny and Oswald too, but they did not lose this leg as a result of last week. They were all on the same plane, so they were all kind of tied when they landed in Guam. Maybe if they had pulled ahead, just not by 30 minutes, I could see it as a result of last week’s leg, but they weren’t able to pull ahead at all. And they were doing the same detour as two other teams. And Oswald couldn’t get through the roadblock quickly. They lost fair and square.

Mirna is irritating. She can be a witch. I’m not sure how I feel about Charla. But if everyone likes Danny and Oswald, and Danny and Oswald like Mirna and Charla so much, … does that mean we’ve gotten the wrong picture about Mirna and Charla? Danny and Oswald didn’t even hesitate when Phil asked who they were rooting for.

Eric is still a jerk. Danielle is okay.

I think I like Dustin and Kandice, at least most of the time. What are they fighting about next week?

Rob is rude and full of himself. Even his wife seems to think so sometimes. If you think otherwise, you must have been watching different shows. And what kind of spotlight is he going to have on the final episode…he lost! Early in the game!

From what I’ve read, Mark Burnett is planning a 20-episode special after this season is finished airing. It’s basically going to be a light-hearted documentary of Rob & Amber’s Amazing Race experience, with lots of previously unseen footage of Rob and all his zany race antics. Be sure to set your recorders!

I’m kidding of course, and I think I just made myself throw up a little bit in my mouth.

Can someone explain the dislike of D&K? I kinda like them…

I agree…they seem pretty nice. I think some people ascribe bitchiness to them because they are attractive…it’s just a stereotype.

I want to hate the BQs. But they’re generally nice and smart racers and I’m rooting for them now.

Some of it is also carryover from their previous Race. They are not bad people, I don’t think, but in particular their interactions with Team 'Bama and their repeated insistence on referring to Lyn and Karlyn as “da sistahs” was kind of really obnoxious, to me.

(Not that I think that Lyn and Karlyn were any great shakes, either – or at least not Karlyn, she of the eternal the sourpuss.)

I am really not sure who is my favorite team to win at this point. Charla and Mirna have given me a great deal of entertainment both in thier original race and this All-Star edition. Danny and Oswald were fun to watch too. Although I would hate being stuck in a small room for a long time with Eric and Danielle, it has sure been fun watching them bicker along the path.

If I were to award the game to the team I have had the most fun watching it would be Charla and Mirna.

Damn

you.
