It definitely was a cool leg. Complicated travel arrangements that in the end really didn’t give anyone a major advantage. Teams doing something stupid and it costing them dearly. Interesting looking obsticals for the teams to overcome in some really cool looking places. Not as cool as the Egypt legs, mind you, but definitely nifty.
I’ve got to give the Bowling Moms the best of show award this time around. They finally got a leg where nothing went horribly against them and they didn’t make any mistakes and they actually raced a lot better than everyone except the consistantly strong Colin and Christie. I strongly suspect that the solid finish is going to give them enough drive to hit the top three next week.
As for C&C, it appears that the editors are trying to tone done Colin’s overpowering aura of potential serial killer, but its hard for me to forget the past episodes. If they showed this behavior throughout the race I probably would be rooting for them, but then I think of Colin’s habit of lashing out at other people when things don’t go perfectly for him and I’m glad for Christie that their biggest problem this week was he missed a turn and she realized it a minute later.
Dear Lord, please stop interfering in the race by helping Brandon and Nicole. If you want to screw around with the race then please do it by smiting Colin with a particularly horrible disease that prevents him from winning.
Just how lost did Chip and Kim get anyway? They had a half hour lead on the Twins from the Airport and the Twins got lost, too. Yes, they did do something extremely stupid in not using the Yield. I’m glad they got away with it but all this “We’ll play fair” crap is kind of missing the point.
Finally, the Twins. I guess you can only come in second to last for so many legs before you finally fall off entirely.
BTW, what is with that preview for the next episode. “…And one team faces the ultimate betrayal!” They say that while showing the Yield being pulled out. The only way that’s the ultimate betrayal is if Christie’s lengthy and overly complicated plot to kill Colin finally comes to fruition when they reach the Yield and she chooses to Yield him.
Yayy, the Annoying Twins are gone! Now the only team left that I hate is Brandon & Nicole, and that’s more of a “meh” hate than “I hope they get eaten by a camel” hate. It’s funny how they haven’t figured out how much God really hates them, though – the only reason God’s kept them in the race so long is to take pleasure in making them suffer.
I think I figured out why no Yield has been used so far – the lead teams don’t want to waste it, and the trailing teams all assume they’re last anyway. And, apparently they don’t know everyone’s exact position, so what happens if they try to Yield a team that’s ahead of them? Do they lose their Yield? If so, it’s no wonder no one’s used one yet. It’s certainly best to Yield a team that they know is right on their ass. Like tonight. Chip & Kim got DAMN lucky.
Colin seemed much nicer this round, though he did have that Charlie Manson stare when he grudgingly apologized to Christie about missing that turn…kind of a “I’ll get you back for making me look bad on camera” stare. Heee. Can’t wait to watch him explode next week!!!
Mullinator, though I wish you had given a note as to what your spoiler covered (I thought it was just about tonight’s episode, not who wins the whole thing!), it would be one hell of a twist if what you say about next week turns out to be true. Very unlikely, but you’ve got me hoping it happens!
Christie: “We need to work on handling it better when things don’t go exactly perfect for us all the time.” Yeah. WE do. Sure.
Brandon: “I don’t wanna do this…this sounds haaard…I’m a big scaredy wuss!”
Nichole: “Yeah, but I want a million dollars.”
I’m officially rooting for the moms now. They, more than anyone else, seem to be just plain having fun. Plus, they go right head on into even the challenges that worry them, get over their fear, and just do them. Go moms!
On a related note, I can’t believe TWO teams were stupid and/or scared enough to do the mud thing! When they explained the choices for the detour, I thought for sure they’d all go sledging. It was a total no-brainer. Hmmm. Maybe that explains it…
OK, it’s official. Colin and Christie are actually the Denver Broncos*. They must be stopped! Anybody know anybody who knows Santeria or voodoo? Seriously. I’m getting desperate here.
On a non-hateful note: Yay Moms! Linda said something last night that I was totally thinking – “Your kids are going to be so proud of you!” I found myself thinking, “These are the coolest. Moms. ever.”
Also, Chip? I like you, but you’re dumb as a bag of hammers. Eyes on the prize, OK? I respect that these people don’t want to win by “cheating,” but fer Chrissakes, check the box before you make your decision!
This makes sense if you are me. I fucking hate the Denver Broncos. Hate! No offense to any fans, I just can’t stand 'em. HATE!!
I know, I had to laugh at that, too. I think the point the show is really trying to make is Someone’s finally gonna use a Yield! From what Colin said (something to the effect of “We’re not going to use a Yield and screw people over”), I guess it is pretty frowned upon, but c’mon, that’s what it was put there for. When you’re down to 4 teams trying to make it into the last 3, what, really, could count as The Ultimate Betrayl?
Does anyone know how many episodes are left? I’m thinking one to get us from 4 teams to 3, one more non-elim leg, then the finale, right? So, 3 more weeks, if all goes as planned. I’m due to have a baby in 3 weeks and change and was thinking last night, “Well, if my water broke right now…”
The other thing was, Chip told C&C they had to go to the travel agency. It looked like they were just going to go straight to the airport (and therefore waste time, and maybe get screwed on time for a flight), but Chip told them to go to the travel agency. I like that you’re a nice guy, but stop helping people so much!
And could Brandon be* more of a wuss? “I don’t want to do the Sledge. We could get hurt, or Nicole could bump her pretty head.”
I agree with Fenris abotu C&C – and not just because I’ve got them in the pool. The guy’s an asshole – but they are brilliant racers, just brilliant. I don’t like them personally – but I’m getting over my squeamishness about having to root for them.
My respect for Brandon, never high, hit a new low when he described why he didn’t want to do the sledge. Partly because of the “Nicole might hit her pretty head” but mostly because he didn’t seem to understand that this is the type of show where activities are scary but not truly likely to harm people. (And Nicole’s pretty head would have been put in a helmet first anyway).
On the other hand, this piece of wimpiness helped the Moms come in second, and I’m rooting for them all the way. (I’ll be shocked if they win, but I’m pleasantly surprised that they have survived this long.)
I thought it was funny that the Moms didn’t use the yield because they thought they were last, and Chip and Kim didn’t use it because they thought the Moms were in last place.
I was absolutely howling when B&N couldn’t find the clue in the mud, and Brandon stopped and said “Do you want to pray?” and Nicole said, through gritted teeth, “Pray. Out. Loud.” as she continued to search.
I noticed that too. And in fact, I think Nicole sounded her own Team Death Knell Of Doom when she said, “Yeah, but I want a million dollars.” Oooh, bad move there, sweetiecakes. God doesn’t like the greedy. And, seriously, shouldn’t you have thought of that last time, when, you know, you refused to shave your head? You can’t have it both ways. Either you want to win, or you don’t. And if you do, then start racing like it, mkay? Sheesh.
I have to admit that I’m getting a little soft spot for Brandon - he’s such a little boy! He’s scared of getting dizzy, he doesn’t want to hit his head, and he’s just so sweet and innocent. And I think he really means it. Nichole, on the other hand, just wants a million dollars and plays along with the prayers just to appease him.
Too bad we can’t get rid of Colin and Nichole and have Brandon and Christie as a team.
sigh All that hoping for nothing. Next week, Colin’d better make with the meltdown, if he knows what’s good for him. I was very impressed with the way he wrung that apology out of his tongue … one might almost think it didn’t hurt.
Chip’s going to get himself in trouble one of these days being a nice guy. And I seriously doubt Kim will be so sweet and quiet when he does. What’s this “playing fair” crap? The Yield is part of the game, i.e., it should be used. Take your advantages where you can get them! Who gives a flying fuck if the Moms might be behind you? Yield, dammit, yield!!!
(Side note–at first glance, I spelled yield wrong every time there. One might think I’d never seen a road sign. Yay Preview.)
I’m seriously concerned that Brandon found the clue immediately after praying. This is an existential dilemma I never expected to encounter while watching reality television. If God was listening, if there is a God, does that mean he wants Brandon and Nicole to win? This almost kept me awake last night. Almost.
Slightly less bashy–I thought that little exchange with Brandon and Nicole in the airport was cute. I almost understood why anyone would want to date either of them.
Still rooting for the Moms. I imagine what my mom would be like on this race, and I think she’s cut from the same cloth, minus the bowling. I’d be so proud of her, and I can just see Linda and Karen’s kids pointing at the tv, shouting “See that?? That’s my MOM, dude! She rocks!!” I think their second-place finish might be all that they need to stay in the top three till the end.
I don’t hate you, Fenris. I hate Colin and Christie, but I agree with you that they’re an awesome team and probably deserve to win based on the skills required to win the game. (I still hope Colin’s head explodes and Christie leaves him high and dry on network TV!)
Again, I agree. Team Blue Lagoon makes me ill. I really want them to crash and burn in the next episode. Maybe we could have nasty old Colin YIELD the Blue Lagoon team and cause their demise. Yeah! Cool!
So that would have been a perfect time to use the Yield, would it? I mean, the Twins are bearing down on Chip and Kim and he chooses not to do it out of a belief in playing fair? If the Twins were in that situation, I think they would have used the Yield against Chip and Kim. As much as I like Chip and Kim, Chip’s starting to get to me. I find myself getting really frustrated with his racing decisions while respecting his choice to enjoy himself on the race. I fully grant that Colin and Christie are great racers, as evidenced by their consistent performance, but I just don’t like them as people. And it’s hard for me to divorce my personal feelings about a team from their racing skills. A combination of the best qualities of the two teams would be fantastic.
I want to sledge. Badly. That looked like so much damn fun.
Going back to the Yield thing, it’s interesting how every other team seems to be underestimating the Bowling Moms; assuming they were in last place anyway led Chip to pass on the Yield, which I guess didn’t matter anyway as the Twins cocked it up by choosing mud over sledge. Part of me wants to start rooting for the Moms now, the last team I thought would be in the final legs.
Probably the same people who thought Charla & Mirna were just misunderstood, or who thought that it was a shame that Donny and Allison were eliminated.
Ok, at least I’m not the only one thinking like this. Brandon might be a ditz, he might be a wuss, but I think he’s genuine in an innocent, very trusting sort of way. He comes across as very kid brother-ish to me. He doesn’t whine like Nichole does. Bleah! I don’t like her.
I agree that Brandon and Christie should abandon their respective partners and team up! I don’t imagine that’s allowed, though, is it? Unless, that’s what they mean by the ultimate betrayal!
