The American Coup Fallout thread

I think judges control the marshals (at least in most of the westerns I watch), so he should be able to sic them on Trump. Wonder what the Secret Service does when a protectee gets arrested?

Since he is a private citizen all they can do is observe and make sure his civil rights are not being violated. I would think that he has private body guards that would more aggressively try and interfere will with an attempt to arrest him if they could.

I hope we all get to find out soon.

I thought I read in an earlier thread about Texas that the term « judge » is a bit misleading and this type of judge is more like a county commissioner? Or am I misremembering ?

I would presume they would protect him until he gets placed in custody. After that point, they’d be free to do other Secret Service stuff. After a bit of partying down.

Insurrectionist wants out of jail because there haven’t been any more riots since 1/6.

Hmmm… any connection between those two things? Nah… no chance.

I was not aware that we imprison people for calling Senators names.

You are correct. In Texas, the County Judge is the head of the Commissioners Court, which is what they call the County Commission in most other states.

In other news, man who is in jail pending trial for breaking into jewelry stores and stealing diamonds wants to be released, since there have been no jewelry store break-ins since his arrest.

In this specific case, policy is to immediately pay up their bets in the Secret Service official “Trump In Cuffs” pool.

Rudy Giuliani has had his New York law license suspended due to his lies and falsehoods related to the election.

About time, too. Why did it take so long? And why haven’t Trump’s other lawyers faced the same.

“Patience, young grasshopper.”

Unlike crazies holding press conference at garden supply stores, professional discipline moves slowly and carefully, to satisfy the requirements of due process.

Here’s an update:

The CNN article linked by @Superdude, above, contains a further link to the full text of the court’s order suspending Giuliani. It’s worth a read, or at least a skim.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/24/politics/read-giuliani-law-license-ruling/index.html

The court listed and described in detail nine instances of Giuliani’s misbehavior – mostly involving “misstatements” (aka “lies”), including his misrepresentations before various courts and before the public about the alleged fraud, all the dead people voting, etc.

If you followed all the trumpy news between the election and the inauguration, you will recognize some of the incidents mentioned. Remember the case where Giuliani was screaming all about fraud, but when he got into a court in front of a judge, he said it was not a case about fraud? That’s in this order. It seems that Giuliani and his client (Trump’s campaign) kept changing their stories can couldn’t get their ever-changing stories straight between themselves.

And remember the several cases where he tried to claim that whole bunches of dead people had voted in various states? (The numbers of alleged dead voters kept changing.) The order reviews these claims in detail and makes mincemeat of them.

All that time we saw Trump’s minions making all those outrageous claims, and we wondered: When are they going to get their whipping for all this shit? Well, it’s happening now, and the order makes clear that Giuliani’s whipping is a direct result of all these specific shitflingings that he did.

Schadenfreude indeed. I think @Superdude’s post and these replies really belong in the schadenfreude thread.

Aw, c’mon… let’s spread the joy around. :innocent:

Jan. 6 had no real chance of successful overthrow, but could have caused the death of several lawmakers or even Pence.

But the real overthrow is still underway. The Repubs are cooking the system so they cannot lose again.

Andrew Giuliani, who is running for Governor of New York, said that his daddy was disbarred by “five leftist judges.”
