Today our local groc (Winn-Dixie for reference) had quite an assortment of both Butterball and Honeysuckle White brand frozen turkeys.
Pre-holiday they were 99 cents a pound and half-off that with the store membership / discount card. Today it was straight 99 cents a pound w/o the extra discount. If I had an extra freezer I might’ve gotten a couple. Lacking that I’d just as soon let them store them and I’ll pay an extra $5 or whatever to buy one when I’m ready to cook it. We get through several turkeys throughout the year.
They also had lots of whole, spiral sliced, and smaller boneless hams and frozen turkey boobs. This was Sunday afternoon, despite two+ previous days of post-holiday sales. Looks like somebody overprovisioned that store big time. Oops.
Well, even without having to pay for product, they still have rent, utilities, licenses, and sometimes salaries to pay. If their cash flow can’t cover those, they’re sunk. I suspect our thrift store doesn’t pay rent, I think the property actually belongs to the church next door, but I don’t know that.
Re: turkeys. Iffen they ain’t on sale, I’ll wait til we’re ready to cook one as well. I like turkey, and used to eat it regularly before I got married, but I’m not welded to the idea.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had N.O.L., and then sloth ensued. All in all a nice day. OYKW goes back to irk tomorrow poor thing. I shall go get twuck’s oil changed, possibly go help out for a while at the soup kitchen (it’s St. Pat’s turn tomorrow), and spiff up da cave. Ima do a pot roast in the slow cooker as well for suppage tomorrow. Enough poultry, time for some beef!
This. London Broil for dinner with salad & leftover mashed taters. Finished the taters, so the fridge is looking almost normal again. We had a nice walk in the evening & now for pre-recorded NFL and perhaps a nice glass of red.
Just one more day off for me then it’s back to the potential grind.
Mooooom, if I have a big bunch of stuff or something heavy, I usually call DAV or ARC, as they pick up in my town. Other than that, I generally donate to Goodwill or Hadassah thrift shops.
My drawers are usually purchased at Tar-jay or one of the fat lady stores.
I fixed stuffed cabbage and garlic carrots for supper, took half the batch to my friend with the recently broken ankle, came home, finished cleanup and am chilling. This was the second time in the last week I’ve make stuffed cabbage. It’s always on the request list when I go up there.
