The American Thanksgiving MMP

Miracle of Miracles - I slept nearly 9 hours straight last night!!! Guess the tahred finally caught up with me. On the downside, I woke from a dream where my sweetie was beaten to death by some guys under the direction of an engineer who wanted to take over all the best projects and leave the rest for everyone else… because we know what a vengeful lot engineers are… I woke to a snoring sweetie, so I know it was just a stoopit dream.

Higgs has gotten weird(er) lately. Normally when her food dish is set down, she’d dive into it as if we hadn’t fed her in months. These last couple of times, tho, she just sits there and looks at it, or even walks away! This morning, Ziva started eating the kibbles!! But Higgs finally snarfed it down, so the morning routine is complete. Crazy critters!

Last night I was commenting to **FCD **that the yarn that was supposed to be delivered yesterday didn’t come. Just now, I looked out the window, and there’s a box sitting on the porch. So apparently it was left by UPS, sans doorbell, while I was in another part of the house. It’s the yarn for SIL’s afghan - as soon as I’m done with the orange one I’m making for AARP, I’ll make his.

I finished the dishcloths last night. Today, apart from laundry and emptying the dishwasher, my only plan is to work on the orange afghan. It shall be a day of chillage.

Happy Sunday!!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I’m watching the Formula 1 race before I go to hockey. Then Packers play tonight. Life is good.

Happy Sunday to all. Dawn was 65 & clear on the way up to a high of 78ish. Close to perfect. All doors and windows are open and the breeze flows through sweetly. Wife has slept in.

My big plans for the day are to probably go grocery shopping. Sunday is also bed & towel changing day, so laundry awaits. Why yes, I do lead an action-packed life of adventure, why do you ask?
A question for the MMP regulars:

I know from the sticky the origin of using nicknames for some posters and for “N.O.T” to refer to edible potatoes. But what are all the other “N.O.<whatevers>”? See for example swampbear’s post 2 above mine. Decoding the funny lingo seems tiresome. Cute gets old quick, at least for me. Harrumph!

Afternoon all.

This weekend’s weather has been dominated by hailstorms; every time I go outside, ice starts pinging off my head. Getting on my nerves, it is.

I’ve been sitting in instead, trying to work out a light set up for next year’s vegetable seedlings, because this flat is very short on windowsills, and I no longer have access to a greenhouse. It’s… a bit tricky to research without being redirected to info on growing a somewhat different crop to the one I’m planning. No, I do not need a set up that big, nor do I need an extractor with carbon filters to make sure no-one outside can smell my basil and tomato plants

N.O.S is ‘Not Our Sunny’.

This forum requires that you wait 60 seconds between posts. Please try again in 14 seconds.

N.O.L: “Not our Lunch” One of our Mumpers is noonespecial, which looks like noon, which is lunchtime. And we don’t eat our own.*

*[sub][sub]Except maybe Flytrap. Avoid any “Dress up like George Donner” parties in Arkansas, to be safe.[/sub][/sub]

N.O.L. is Not Our Lunch, which refers to a long-absent Mumper **NooneSpecial **whose nickname derives from Nooner, ergo Lunch. Sometimes there’s logic to nicnames, sometimes not. Much of it is childish/silly/inane, but that’s part of the charm of the MMP. Yeah, charm, that’s it.

First load of laundry is in dryer, second in washer. Dishwasher has been emptied and refilled. I even swept most of the leaves off the back deck and vacuumed up leaf bits and cat hair in the main living areas. I can’t believe how many leaves are still on the trees after all we’ve mulched and dumped in the woods already. I’ve got an appointment with the gutter cleaners on Jan 4. They’re great - if we’re not here, they just leave a bill and I mail a check. They do good work, and I no longer have to fret about **FCD **climbing on the roof. I"m sure he can still do it, but the $100 is worth not having to fret.

After the laundry is done, I’ll be attacking my craft supplies. There’s a fun project…

I don’t buy 'em; anywhere.

Speaking of Kohl’s, I really think Thanksgiving should be a holdiay & let the poor retail schlub spend it with their family. That being said, I was thankful Kohl’s was open on Turkey night because when I decided I needed a break from driving home, it was warmer in there than walking around the parking lot to stretch my legs & get O[sub]2[/sub] flowing thru the body. As an added bonus they had a ($400!) massage chair setup; it was wunnerful! However, I left it in the store for the next time I’d like to use it there.
There was a long trail race this morning that I’ve been toying with doing. After getting home late last night I finally decided to bag it. I still have the remains of the blister from the trail marathon two weeks ago, I’m almost recovered from Hell Week, I’m tired, the legs are tired. I have no expectation of winning, but if I can’t race well why bother. I stumble up to bed & happily don’t set an alarm. So of course I wake up early enough to go do it. :smack:

I have to download the pictures & render the video from yestidy afternoon; the bunny came to the Santa fly-in; shouldn’t he come to the Easter fly-in? Well, it was his East Coast debut.
I do believe I shall make some Xmas eggs (substitute egg nog for milk, mmmm) & then see what else the day brings. There’s cleaning up the (food) smoker & (jambalaya) pot, fud shopping, laundry, I might go to the race to spectate for a bit…or not. There’s some type of workout, & finally catch up on all of my emails from the past week, so there’s lots to choose from.

**Spidey **steals unders?!?!?!?!? Shame shame shame!!!

Good morning!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and getting ready to purtify before getting chores done. Right now though, I have a lapful of sleepy puppy to cuddle. Such a difficult job. :stuck_out_tongue:

Pepper pup left one of her toys outside of her crate and one of the big dogs is chewing it right in front of her. Oh, the agony. Her soul is crushed. Silly pup.

I must do things. I don’t know what the things are, but I’m feeling that I must do them. Sigh. Adulting awaits.

Went to the gym, went to the store. Not Mart of the Wall, the Jewel. Eating leftover chicken and will work my way to the barn. I’m watching the end of Ghostbusters, a righteous movie.

The Horror!

I’ve sorted yarn and pattern books. Didn’t keep much, but I’ve got the stuff I don’t want set aside. I emailed the woman in charge of the local senior centers to see if they’d like the books, yarn, and extra hooks and needles. I don’t want to throw them away…

Guess I should sort out the extra hooks and needles now. TTFN!

The car is washed, the groceries bought, the lunch eaten, and the idjits of the internet roundly scolded yet again. Laundry proceeds apace and a nap perhaps awaits. Or a walk outside on a perfect afternoon, depending on whether ambition or sloth carries the day. Bets?

Noodlin’ on what to have for dinner that’s not turkey. I froze most of the leftover meat and am letting that rest for a few days before defrosting the next round. Last night, after 3 Turkish nights in a row we polished off round 1 of 4 of said meat.
Ref excess yarn & needles, many churches have charity knitting circles where they do hats & scarves & baby blankets for the homeless or poor or lonely merchant seamen or whatever. Might check with those folks if you come up dry at the senior center.

Yeah, my thought was either the local VA home or a church. I just sorted and paired all the needles, and I filled an envelope with hooks. There’s a big bag of assorted yarns.

Plus I sorted my personal stash of hooks and needles. 50+ years of knitting and crocheting has given me a metric buttload of stuff. Plus a friend of my mom’s gave me a bunch of her stuff. Someone somewhere is going to get a small bonanza!

I seem to recall that there was a mild debate as to whether we should riff on the other, well-known definition of nooner, or maybe it was just in my mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m up, semi-caffinated, and contemplating what to do with the day. Over the weekend we binge watched Longmire, and last night we watched the National Dog Show and then the last two episodes of dancing With the Lesser-Known Celebrities. Yes, we’re exciting people. Tonight I’m gonna make another attempt at making Tom Ka soup. My version is pretty good, but doesn’t taste like what we get at the Thai place. I think when the owner told us what was in it she left something out.

After that it’ll probably be Netflix. We watch a lot of Netflix 'cause neither one of us can stomach Xmas specials.

Oh, and I buy my unders at Bi-Mart or Fred’s(Kroger). They don’t have to be fancy. They just have to keep my dangly bits from rubbing on my inseams, 'cause I’s a sensitive guy, I am.

I may go to the store later and see if they have any left-over turkey on sale. We didn’t bring any leftovers home from Son’s house. DIL’s mind doesn’t work that way.
I want to buy some tortillas anyway, for making fajitas Mon.

We always try to take our no-longer-wanted stuff to our local thrift store, not affiliated with any big organization, or ReStore (Habitat for Humanity). We like our own little thrift store 'cause they’re all volunteer and they do good right here in our little community. Only if the Thrift store or ReStore don’t want something will we take it to Goodwill. We don’t like them all that much. Judgemental? Damn betcha!

Y’all have a good week.

There’s a thrift store associated with a county facility for mentally handicapped adults and I’ve donated a lot of stuff there. They’ll be the last resort if no one else wants my stuff.

**FCD **is napping. I think I’ll assume the crochet position now that everything is sorted and tidied.

An outfit named “Savers” closed their Little Rock and North Little Rock stores. I don’t see how you can lose with the business model. People donate clothes and household items. People give you your product for free, and you sell it to (presumably) other people. For money. Mrs. Plant (v.3.0) was disapointed. It was a nice place to go shopping and find neat things. We bought several aquariums there.

I made up with asshole son because he is still my son. Don’t like him too much but still. I visited my eldest brother and his wife and daughter and two of her three kids. Me and so my boy and his girlfriend went to the cemetery to clean off my parents graves. We even took a rake but there were no leaves there. We walked around and looked at how old folks were and found some very old graves.

The wx in middle Jawja was 67 F today which is perfect. I brought. Heavy leather coat with me but will leave it with sister when I see her tomorrow because there is zero chance I will need it in the Keys. Plus it is heavy. As usual I overpacked. The trick to not paying $25 baggage fee is to wait until through security and every time they announce they will check carry on bags for free so that is what I do. Hey, it saves $50.

It cost me $84 to park at the overflow lot at KW airport. I asked the guy if he would also clean it. Jeez. Not my fault they don’t have enough regular parking at $10 a day.

I was so mad with so my boy I sat on hold with Delta o er an hour trying to change my flight for today only to be told tis a non changeable ticket. If I was willing to pay the difference… kinda pissed me off.

This weekend I am doing a turkey and dressing. I didn’t get enough at sisters the other day. Her big fat son took most of the leftovers even bringing his own containers.:eek::smack:
