The mike that came with the X-Box will not work for this. You need to get a USB microphone and plug it into the USB ports on the X-Box.
Ah, thank you. I was fiddling with it all last night, and I was ready to pack up the game, the console, and the guitar and return it all to GameStop and get a Wii, which, despite having a horrid name, is not made by MicroSoft and also has the Zelda series available.
Hubby and I played through the “Story” mode last night on expert (mostly), me singing and playing, and him playing. We switched off between bass and guitar depending on the difficulty - I got the easier part on most songs since I was singing.
This game is fantastic. I’ve played all the other Rock Band/GH games, and this is one I could finally get all the way into. I am a huge Beatles fan from way back, and I can sing every note with lots of gusto from years of practice. The learning curve is low on these, but that’s okay - I was getting bored with all of that maniacal shredding anyway
I love, love, love the cut scene audio, with in studio chatter and noodling. I haven’t watched the “prize” videos that we’ve won yet, but they look to be a dream for the Beatles fan like me. I also love the in-song animation, and the concept of them starting in studio, then the switch to the imaginary performance space.
The only down side was the 10 minute long credits at the end, with them thanking everyone in legal, etc., but the studio chatter sudio made up for it. Although, while they thanked people for ten minutes, they never thanked John, Paul, George and Ringo
This is the best of the lot (for me, anyway) and I cannot wait for the rest of the albums to be released!
Jesus!:smack:
Sucks to be me, ah reckon!
Thanks

Note that non-Rock Band brand mikes will work with Rock Band. Singstar and Lips, for example.
They did thank Ringo and Paul, along with the other two sharehoulders. They did not thank John and George, them being dead and all.
They did a bit more than thank the Beatles. They said they love you to them.
And in the end…
“The love you take, is equal to the love you make.”
Thanks

OK, I have just been playing this game - in my office, no less (one of my colleagues is reviewing the game).
I play the drums, so I really enjoy the drum part - was getting 90%+ on “Hard” after a song or two. Then I tried playing the guitar and even on Medium I was crapping out a quarter of the way through the song.
My colleague who is reviewing it thinks it is juvenile and silly. I love it though.
I’m pretty sure I’ve heard that complaint about (plain) Rock Band before, that if you’re good at the drums especially, the “easier” levels will be tougher because they change the displayed beats to not really match what you’re hearing. I could be wrong, though - I only ever do the vocals for Rock Band.
The very first credit reads “Music and Inspiration- The Beatles- John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr.”
There’s a headset that comes with the 360 online pack. You can plug that in to the base of the controller and save yourself from having to buy a specialist USB mike.
Alternately, connect a USB mike to the front of the 360.
… Nik, have you tried it? Because I’m pretty sure that does not work. The USB will, the headset won’t.
It works with Rock Band and RB2 - I imported it and a set of drums to use with Guitar Hero controllers and for many months the 360’s headset mike was the only one we had. The only time that it didn’t work was when I’d accidentally set it to mute (I didn’t work it out until the end of the day. It was embarassing).
I haven’t tried it with RB:B - I don’t have the game - but this is something so fundamental that I can’t imagine that they’d have broken it.
Okay - I’m an idiot
Ooh! Ooh! Who was the production accountant? Was it Jake Christiansen? 'Cos I love his work!
(I know, I know, but why does anyone bother with this sort of credit? Seriously?)
They done broke it. The USB mike works, the headset doesn’t.
The guitar controller STILL doesn’t work, and XBox tech support on the phone has been spectacularly less than helpful. If they are going to use Indian CSRs for US customers, the Indians need to be able to BE UNDERSTOOD by those Americans. I tried a few different times, and it was very, very clear that the humans that I talked to had no idea what was wrong with the game, or how to fix it, they were just picking out key words from what I was complaining about. If that’s the level of support that I wanted, I could have received it from the automated system, which at least I could understand.
On the other hand, while I was picking up my mike today, I also picked up a couple of other XBox games (and a good thing, too, seeing as I STILL can’t do more than sing in that game), one of which is Lost Oddysey. Looks very promising indeed.
See? This is why we can’t have nice features.
This is particularly irritating. They don’t sell mikes as spare parts in this country (I had to import one), and hand-held USB mikes are harder to come by than they should be.
If they were going to do this, why would they feel the need to do it for the game where you’re going to want multiple microphones?
That said, if you like Japanese RPGs, Lost Odyssey is as JRPGy as they come. Androgynous heroes and all the grinding you can stand. I came into it somewhat agnostic to JRPGs and quit vowing never to play another one. I gave it to a friend who loves them and she said it was the best game since Final Fantasy 7. Your mileage will vary.
I paid US$10 for a used one. Its previous owner put stickers on it, but they’re not so annoying that I’ve had to peel them off. LO is fulfilling its promise very nicely as I await the tech support people at XBOX email to get back to me.
Uh, Lynn, not to sound condescending, but it is a 360 controller, right? With the X-button and everything?
Although they’re all USB controllers and all look alike, I do know someone who bought a generic guitar controller to play Rock Band with and found that he’d bought a PS2 rather than a 360 version.
And you did synchronize the controller with the X-Box? Is it working to navigate the X-Box at all?
Actually, the 360 controllers are mostly wireless these days. Did you get the controller used, Lynn? If I were you, I’d take it to where you got it from and ask them if they can synch it with their x-box, see if it works at all.
Actually, Microsoft’s pretty cagey on letting anyone license their wireless protocol - the generic controllers are all wired.
But if it’s wired it shouldn’t need to be synched, should it?
