The best of Bruce Campbell

Another vote here for Brisco

He played a cool role in The Hudsucker Proxy.

I liked the few episodes of Brisco County I saw, but I’ll throw in the short-lived and not-very-lamented Jack of All Trades. It was the companion show to Cleopatra 2525, which explains why it isn’t around any more. But it was fun and quite funny, in a cheesy way.

He can whip out his BOOM stick anytime

I liked him in the commercial for some video game; his neighbour attaches a hedge clipper to his arm, Evil Dead-style, because the chainsaw was too heavy. Bruce ridicules him for being such a wimp and then chases him down the street.

Did you catch him as the Indiana Jones-type hero appearing in the movie-within-the-movie The Majestic? Yep, it’s him, all right!

I love those “Hey…is that…it is!” moments.

Hence my confusion. Thank you, Max.

Did anyone mention his role in “Congo”?

Now, I admit that Army of Darkness is indeed the best movie ever made, but when it comes to showcasing his acting, you have to admit, Evil Dead 2 takes the cake. The simple scene where he’s kicking his own ass is the best example of what kind of physical control this guy has over himself and what a fantastic physical actor he really is. The lines and bravado in Army of Darkness are indeed great, but for showcasing his capabilities, it pales to Evil Dead 2.

But yeah, Brisco County Jr. is his best non-ED role. Loved Jack of All Trades, but you gotta admit…it sucked (in that “I’ve got virtually every episode on tape” kind of way). For a movie role, I like Crimewave.

Yeah, it did. I’ll admit that. But still, there were few better ways to end your week than to shut off your brain and sit down and laugh at that show, then get your cheesecake quota in Cleopatra 2525 immediately thereafter.

The whole idea of Mini-Me as Napoleon made that show great regardless of any other shortcomings it may have had

Holy crap, I totally forgot about “Crimewave”, that was the bank-robbing movie with the chick from full house, wasn’t it?
He was also in “Mchales Navy”, but I’m afraid he couldn’t save that one…:frowning:

I saw him on his book tour, got in line 2 hours in advance to get his autograph on both copies of his book I bought. He did a talk at the auditorium here at MU, preceding a screening of Evil Dead 2 (if you never saw it with a bunch of other diehard Bruce fans, you’ve missed out.) He turned his back at one point and gave us fans a chance to yell out the name of one movie he was in that we’d most like our ticket money back on

Jack of all Trades was faaaaaaaaaaaar cooler than Cleopatra 2525. The guy who dumped Bruce’s show and made the entire hour for Cleopatra (it was originally a half-n-half package) was thinking with his genitalia. C’mon, we can see hot chicks any time, just by going outside. Bruce, we don’t see everyday. Raimi could have made it a hit. He turned Hercules from a series of “ActionPack” TV movies into a successful series with a sexy spinoff, he could have made Jack of All Trades work. He got NBC to keep running Quantum Leap years after the execs wanted to cancel. If only he could’ve helped Bruce out a little on that one.

Since this thread appeared, I have gone back and started watching Brisco again. I am amazed at how well it holds up. Yeah, it’s technically a Western, but it works on so many more levels: comedy, sci-fi (:D), Western (of course), drama, etc.
Bruce definitely holds his own. I can’t think of many actors who can pull off a role like that.
