The Biden Administration: a puppy-hug in the making

There is now an idea of the extent of Commandergate.

Every pet everywhere is thanking their lucky stars they didn’t have to live with the stinky rump. I just can’t imagine any of those people with pets.

“Prices are still too high for housing and groceries, even as prices for key household items, like milk and eggs, are lower than a year ago,” Mr. Biden said. “I have a plan to lower costs for housing — by building and renovating more than two million homes — and I’m calling on corporations, including grocery retailers, to use record profits to reduce prices.”

According to NBC News Radio, the Times left off the best part: Biden calling out Republicans, who (paraphrased) “have no plans to attack inflation” and implying that their plans are limited to hurting Democrats.

But a NYT column last night shows inflation close to 2%. [sorry can’t gift link] Yeah gas has been up lately, but a majority of that is simply seasonal changes thanks to increased driving and more expensive summer blends.

Even the quoted part is a bit disingenuous, since to have staples go DOWN in price would equate to DEflation, usually a Very Bad Thing.

Here ya go:

Paul Krugman, my hero.

Although to be fair, if Biden’s plan is "calling on corporations, including grocery retailers, to use record profits to reduce prices.” I’m not sure its much better. The idea that corporations might put civic duty ahead of profits hasn’t been a thing since WW2. The purpose of the American people is to serve the corporations, not the other way around.

Of course they won’t do that. But it’s savvy of Biden to remind voters that while inflation might be hurting them, the corporations where they’re spending that additional money are making record profits*.

*is this true, btw? I recall news about oil companies breaking records in 2022, but not as recently – and nothing about grocery chains.

Yeah I know why he did it but reading that line I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.

Maybe not so much the grocery chains, but the food producers themselves.

Good to know – thanks for the link!

It may be relevant that WWII was the last time we won a war. Well, a declared one, anyway.

This is amusing me today:

Ah, domestic bliss…

Haha! That’s pretty funny.

Yeah, about that…

You ever wonder why Harry Truman became prominent enough to end up as FDR’s vice president? His time in the Senate, fighting corporate graft in military contracts, was a big reason why.

Ok, correction issued:
