I think that was the first time I heard that on TV. My kids immediately asked what it was. I had to tell them it was pretty much Yiddish and meant “screwed up” or worse. My Grandmother used this word frequently.
The equivalent German word would be verkackt = shitty.
This episode just made me realize how much I love Amy Farrah Fowler. She is what Sheldon’s character should be. Way too smart for the normal human, very socially awkward in that she doesn’t quite “get it”, but not so socially stupid that it laughable (but not funny).

I’d argue that she does ‘get it’ but she doesn’t quite know how to ‘apply it.’ Think about how many times she’s started out a sentence with 'It’s my understanding that when two friends are in _______ situation they would normally discuss ______ so, Penny, how many men have you had sex with?"
She’s even taken to guiding Sheldon. In fact, I wonder if that’s partially her purpose on the show, to take him down a notch and bring him back into reality. She’s been trying to teach him some of the social norms. Things like schmoozing rich people for grant money and asking a distressed friend if he’d like some tea instead of breaking out the roommate agreement.

She’s kind of hot, and certainly buxom. But even though she is book smart, the way she talks makes her sound kind of ditzy. And status-wise, Howard is already a professional whereas Bernadette is still a student and waitress. So, she’s hot, but at the same time she’s quirky and not yet established.
