Yup. Amy is rising to level of Sheldon’s comic potential and the perfect foil for him. I’m surprised how well it’s working out. The kissing took me by surprise, how long before they engage in coitus?
They had a ‘real’ kiss quite a while back and Sheldon has clearly regressed back to this contractual kiss, that he had to be reminded about. I’m guessing coitus isn’t happening anytime soon.
I’m not entirely sure what he gets out of that relationship. It seems like the only benefits he gets from her are things he could find in another colleague, and the downsides are things he would really rather do without. The nagging, the kissing, the pushing from her to move to the next level, the family functions he gets dragged to.
It seemed, as happens to all Chuck comedies, they have reached the plateau of just going through the motions. The writing was lazy and the plotting dismal.
Dreary old Amy is such a colossal bore few could care what happens to her; Leonard has reached the detachment of a Noh player, whereby the cock of an eyebrow suffices to convey all his emotions — which only cover bored dislike anyway — Penny just hugs a glass until Chuck finds another way to demonstrate his contempt for women. Sheldon does something insensitive. Howard, the most capable member and the one who has developed the most is matched with a half-witted shrew who belittles him, but is admired for her big breasts.
All the characters seem to have progressed to having a pure boredom in their relationships usually only possible after 30 years of marriage. Sometime in the next three seasons the only interest will be which character dies with a bread knife in the chest.
This.
I thought it was a decent to good episode.
IMHO, Sheldon’s inability to make a decision is inconsistent with someone who draws up long, complicated agreements for relationships and roommates. Then again, it’s just TV.
I DVR’d the ep, and replayed that several times. Penny showing Leonard why it was impossible to be a “good actress in a bad film” in Serial Apist II was not as funny, but I replayed it once.
It was nice to see Raj on that date with Emily(?). I’ll be curious to see if it goes forward. She’s already met Amy. Lucy didn’t really get past that. And I’m wondering about Lucy calling. As much as I enjoy Kate Micucci, unless Lucy wants to hook up with Stuart, I don’t see much between Lucy and Raj. And I wonder why he never called Yvette the Vet.
Oh, is he Stuart or Stewart?
I think Mayim Bialik is having tons of fun on this show. I think she’s a great comedic actress in this role. As to what Sheldon gets out of their relationship? Someone who is a lot less critical of him than everyone else he knows. And she gets a boyfriend and someone who is even less socially adept than she is. And who doesn’t throw their feces like her monkeys do.
And they’re slowly moving forward with Penny’s acting career. It was pretty supportive of Leonard to set up that talk with Wil Wheaton. And the surprise ending was appropriate, surprising, and funny.
The retirement/get well card thing was funny. It was just a throwaway, but Howard/Bernadette needed something to do this episode. The thing is, with only 20 minutes to tell 4 stories, some just have to be cut short. Penny’s acting story line is a continuing one, so they didn’t need to spend a lot of time on it. Finally, Raj may have a romantic story line, so they had to blow on the embers of his last thing with Emily to get it going again. And Sheldon freaking out about having to make a decision, well, it was very in character.
I’ve got a minor obsession on this show. I’ve got all the episodes on an external HD. One thing I’m becoming annoyed about is the way Kaley adds a “wah” to the end of words ending in an “oh” sound if they come at the end of a sentence. She doesn’t say “no” or “go”, she says “no-wah” or “go-wah”. Does anyone else notice this? Well, now that I mentioned it, you probably will.
It wasn’t the best episode, but I think it wasn’t just a place holder, it moved some stories along.
I can’t understand this pointless comment given that I stated: 'The writing was lazy and the plotting dismal. ’
Obviously I fucking watched it. I have watched every episode of the Big Bang. I think it is degenerating, and started going downhill around two years ago; but it is still less funny now than then.
Another Chuck vehicle, Two and A Half Men, has also gone downhill since around the same time, but that was due to the much publicized loss of Charlie Sheen ( whose Anger Management is surprisingly literate and good-humoured ) whose leaving made it not only increasingly mean-spirited and much more vulgar — despite the glorious Courtney Thorne-Smith. His pleasant, but forgettable ( and chutzpah entitled ) Mom suggests his massive talent is most successful in synergy with only the most able and enduring leading actors.
True, Michelle has a balcony you could do Shakespeare from. Penny’s been dressing a bit more conservatively as of late. Though occasionally they must have the ac turned really cold.
I think it’s telling that this thread wasn’t started until the Sunday after the episode aired. Dismal episode, not funny, and really sort of boring. I think the shark snapped at Sheldon’s shadow flying over him a few episodes ago.
…if anyone follows Will Wheaton’s blog/twitter: the stuff he said to Penny was brutally honest, even the depression thing. He quite openly talks about this stuff.
