Interesting as CBS for years (decades) has been trying to establish a comedy night on Thursdays. Looks like they gave that up and are trying for comedy on Thursdays.
This move puzzles me, because I thought the BBT/2 and a Half Men combo brought in the best ratings of any network on Mondays.
I’ll still watch it, because I torrent/Hulu shows I don’t see live. Of course, now pretty much every show I watch is on Thursday - The Office, 30 Rock, Community, Burn Notice, Always Sunny…
I was puzzled to at first, but CBS clearly has been trying to establish a new night of comedy. Even back to the early 90s when they had “The Nanny” on Wednesdays and it was due to be cancelled, then it was moved to Mondays for reruns in the summer and became a hit.
CBS has always put what they thought as stronger shows on Wednesdays (Like Becker and King Of Queens) after establishing them on Mondays to get a “beachhead” so to speak on another weeknight for comedy.
CBS has basically owned Mondays going back to the I Love Lucy days.
Since The Big Bang Theory is now the #1 comedy (beating Two And A Half Men) seems logical (in a way) they’d move it.
Kind of like when FOX moved the Simpsons to Thursdays to go head to head with Cosby
Oh dear god. Well, everyone, you may as well give up on deciding what CBS shows you will & won’t watch. Once my wife (who works late on Wednesdays) gets word of this, there are going to be a rash of unexplained deaths at CBS, resulting in the collapse of the network.
My reaction depends on NBC’s fall schedule. I don’t want to skip Community, but I’d happily watch The Big Bang Theory instead of, say, Parks & Recreation.
This is me too, but I will say I really like the move. I have nothing on Thursday since dropping the Office and failing to be interested in 30 Rock. And being a child of the 80s, it hurts to not have something to watch on Thursdays.
I’m getting into Always Sunny on DVD, so finding out that it is a Thursday show just makes things peachy. If the new Shatner show is any good (skeptical), we are back to Must See TV Heights! Of course, now my Monday is reduced to HIMYM and the previous night’s Simpsons.
You know, I COULD just show some restraint and save some shows from earlier in the week to any given day, but that’s not how I roll.
Nope, not if it’s up against Community (and I’m DVR-less so I don’t have the “watch both” option). I would like to see it moved to an earlier time on a different night, though.
Thursday my family generally watches/records Vampire Diaries, Bones, and Supernatural, so I guess we’ll need to crank up the basement DVR.
Mondays were House, 2/5 Men, BBT, and Castle. Trying to think if we regularly record anything on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays… Maybe Lie to Me, wherever that is going to go if they ever start showing it again.
I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of TV I’ve been watching, tho. Really trying to get off the couch and spend my evenings walking the dogs, practicing golf, or working on my car.
How do people who watch TV until 11 p.m. (and then local news and maybe even a late night talk show) manage to get up for work the next day? I guess I did it when I lived in Seattle, but it’s really nice to have the last prime time show over with by 10 p.m.
Says the old lady who eats supper at 5 p.m.
BBT’s move is okay with me. It won’t be up against anything else I like.
I’m happy to see it moving to an earlier time slot. I start nodding off by 9:30 (I’m old and I get up early to go to work), so 8:00 suits me just fine. But Big Bang Theory is one of the few shows I might actually stay up late to watch.
I don’t like them moving anything. I especially hate the way networks like to pile every fucking show worth watching on television on the same fucking night, because God forbid there should be something to watch on the other nights of the week - no, they must all be in direct, head-to-head competition so you’re glued to your couch watching shows on one tv, recording on your DVR, and recording on your VCR in the basement. Fuckers.
