We recorded the show and now watching. Is anyone else getting the annoying directional cues, or is it just us? May have to save this one for posterity. I’ve never seen this happen on any show. If this is a new trend, then get the flock off my lawn.
Not real sure what you’re talking about…could you be more specific?
I noticed nothing unusual.
Can you get video from it to post on youtube, even if just by pointing your phone at the tv? I’m curious to see it.
It was probably just the film crew in your kitchen.
Directional cues like the director signaling actors to walk or move closer or further away? How would you be able to see the hand signals on TV?
It was weird stuff: “Leonard walks into the room.” “Bernadette smiles.” “Sheldon sarcastically replies.”
We saved it on the DVR. I’ll check with the other half to see if we can upload it to youtube.
(If they were in my kitchen, then they’re the ones who snagged my peanuts and pissed me off. :D)
Did you have you closed captioning on? I dunno, I got nothing, but I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary when I watched it.
If this was part of the CC, I think I’ve seen closed captions on DVRs get retroactively edited, so that might disappear even if you did save it.
You might want to take pictures/video with your phone.
It sounds like either you or your cable company had the secondary audio program enabled. Basically, it’s spoken descriptions of the action for the blind.
Someone on another forum had the same issue and he denies having had SAP on. I don’t know where he’s located but maybe he and the OP live in the same place.
It does sound very much like Descriptive Video Service, as mentioned in Dewey Finn’s link. I’ve occasionally turned ours on (even though I’m not visually impaired), just because I find it kind of interesting to listen to. It must take real skill to write text that describes, quickly and accurately, what’s going on while also not overlapping with the spoken dialogue.
Yes, that is a particularly geeky thing to do on my part.
It sounds like in some areas, the DVS track was accidentally run in place of the standard audio track.
Unlike CC on a live show (like the news), this might come right from the script.
Did any of the directional cues say anything like:
Penny Closeup (Sure to stir debate on twitter, blogs, and message boards)
Need Laugh Track as audience didn’t laugh enough (Sure to anger viewers)
Forgive me if someone else has started a thread about this episode, already. I glanced down through “Cafe Society” without seeing one.
So – what did you folks think about the episode?
Woah, deja vu, a glitch in the matrix. It means…they changed something.
Okay, I see that people had been talking about some odd technical glitch.
Proceeding to the episode’s actual content – I’m happy that Stuart will be getting back into the comic book biz. I’m wondering if the writers will actually allow him to be successful at it, this time.
I’ll go counter everyone else who hates the people on this show so much, they have to watch every week just to pour more Haterade in every new thread-- I don’t like Raj’s girlfriend only because she doesn’t like Penny. Penny is my friend and this woman is Raj’s little piece of red-head and not a true BB buddy.
Kinda like I disliked Pria, only Pria was an actual stuck up beyotch. Raj’s Readhead hasn’t done anything except not like Penny.
I tried to like Priya, but it didn’t work out. I’m still going to give the redhead a try, though. We’ll see how she treats Raj…
The episode itself was ok. Still hate Penny’s hair. Is this red head the same girl that had the creepy obsession with slasher films from last season, or someone new?
Not getting why Raj and Howard were oblivious to potential problems with the van and candy to lure kids to a any-damn-thing. Seems like a season or two ago, Sheldon was about to google “how to excite young girls” for some university outreach type program, and they were quick to stop him.
Not sure I like the vibe with Stuart getting semi-paternal towards Howard, either. That whole thing with him and Howard’s mother is off-putting. Wish they’d found a better way to make him less of a pathetic loser.
Not sure why Penny didn’t tell Red Head what really happened with Raj…especially after he made the obligatory threesome innuendo.
Hoping they aren’t going to make Penny have a drinking problem…but they keep referring to it/showing it.
