I’m glad I live far enough north that we’re missing most of the worst effects. Sure, there’s a lot of snow, but no worse than anything else we’ve had so far this season.
I’ve heard that it snowed 49 inches in Garrett County. That’s over four feet!
Baltimore was hit pretty bad too- I measured over two feet on the porch.
It looks like, for the first time this year, we will be spared the worst of it. Only 8-10 inches predicted. Woo hoo.
Honey
If I could get the door to my balcony open, I’d see how many inches are out there. But since it’s up to the windows on the door, with the drifts to the edge of the balcony, I don’t think that one is going to happen.
It’s one of the times that I’m glad I’m NOT working, so I wouldn’t have the question of “Should I go in or not?” Verrain wrestled with it this morning and decided to stay home. I’ve got to admit, I’m glad. I really don’t like the way the streets are looking out there, snow slowdown or not.
I’m about ready to go out and shovel for the third time today.
As we were finishing up the first shovelling, at about 9:00 am, our neighbor emerged from his garage to begin his shovelling. But he stuck a yardstick into the snow first. We’re not getting any wind, so there really aren’t any drifts. He said it was ten inches.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s doubled that in the intervening time.
With the shovelling and the plowing, we have snow piled over five feet high in our front yard.
If I ever get my hands on that #&%*! groundhog…!
Here are pictures from day 2 of the snowstorm!
We hiked over to the Metro market for a few things, and like dummies, we forgot to get a camera. Anyway, the marina management has had the road out front plowed and they’re supposed to be bringing in a front-end loader to clean up the parking lot. I can’t leave till they get the parking lot access cleared. I’ve got reservations on the first flight to Jax tomorrow, but all flights today were canceled, so I don’t know what the deal will be. I plan to call southwest airlines tonight.
Damnit! will you people stop stealing my snow. Colorado is like 20% of normal precipitation, in the 4th year of a drought, but who is it that keeps taking more and more of it? You greedy bastards on the east coast. I hope you are all real happy because I’m probably going to have to live with fires bans all summer again. You offically have 12 hours to bring all my snow back to Colorado, or I’m gonna go there and get it myself.
I can’t complain, since the federal government is closed tomorrow, which means my employer, which matches the federal closings, is closed as well. Four-day weekend (albeit stuck in my apartment with my bf out of town)!
FairyChatMom says:
That is due to the snow fall isn’t it and not the meeting with your husband, correct?
::d&r::
I’ve got cabin fever. I’m going out. I’m from California and I’m not used to snow, so this should be interesting.
Come east and help yourself, wolfman! Half the problem is that we’ve got nowhere to put all this snow when they try to clear it off the roads!
But you’ll have to take charge of the transport - right now we can’t even handle local commutes. (Not that that’s a bad thing; as gobear noted, the Federal government (my employer) is closed tomorrow. So the wife and I get an extra day’s worth of weekend. :))
It was kinda chilly when we went snorkling this afternoon in Key Largo. We even had to wear wetsuits, even though they were shorties. Sorry about the weather ya’ll are having. Don’t you love having all four seasons? That’s what I hear, anyway.
If I could back my car up two feet, I wouldn’t be stuck. The roads are fine after that. But with no shovel and a four-foot drift to deal with, I don’t think I’m going to go anywhere real soon.
I like the fact that I can call it “the blizzard of aught three”. It makes me feel like a real New Englander.
well, foo, they subtracted inches, philly is officially at 18.7." that puts this storm at #5 of the top snow storms.
i went out a bit today. i can’t believe there wasn’t an inquirer to be found. the daily news made it to stores but not the inquirer.
i’m on the drift side of the street. it is really amazing. i hope my pictures will turn out well.
the mobile snow melters are rather nifty though.
Centreville, VA looks like this today (at least at my house)
We’re having far too much fun. Playing in the snow, looking at the snow, talking about the snow…
I suppose given time I could in theory get sick of this… but it would take a looooong time.
Long live the snow!
There is about a foot or so here at the Ohio/PA border
Ahem. A lady doesn’t discuss such things…
what is a mobile snow melter?
