philly is using mobile snow melters to clear center city. it is a large square truck thing, the square is open at the top and they dump the snow in. then the interior is heated and the snow melts and goes through a bit of a filter and runs out the bottom of the truck into the runoff inlets in the street. it is really great. they cleared market street using bulldozers and the mobile snow melters.
they are dumping snow in both rivers and in the navy yard as well. we don’t have enough mobile snow melters for the entire city. the epa said yes to the snow melters and river dumping for non treated snow. any snow that was treated with brine or salt has to be disposed of in another way.
i can’t wait to see what will happen in the next few days, they are forecasting mid to high 40’s for wends through fri.
See the snow, ain’t it pretty?
Yet my back’s feeling shitty.
I’ve shoveled all night, but still I see white
Working in a Winter wonderland.
Go away Mr. Snowbird
On my house, is your snowturd
This Winter things sucks, I’m spending big bucks
Heating in a Winter wonderland.
By the driveway we can build a snowman,
and pretend that he’s your Uncle Zeke.
In a while his color turns to yellow,
cause after all I had to take a leak.
Put the chains on the tires,
as I curse and perspire.
I can’t wait for June, I’ll rave like a loon
with another month of Winter wonderland.
On Sunday, there were a few pitiful excuses for snowflakes floating down, that melted as soon as they hit the ground. (Looked more like someone with dandruff was up on our roof, brushing out their hair.)
I want snow, dangnabit!
<< If you don’t change your direction, you may end up where you were headed. >>
I want more snow. If we got 6 feet of snow, I’d be thrilled. I LOVE SNOW!!!
I grew up in one of those air-conditioning-in-winter climates and I hated every minute of my 25 years there. Winter is for COLD SNOWY WEATHER. Anything less is a crime against nature.
Well, I haven’t been home in days. Been stuck at work since they consider me essentail personel. My GF claims that we got 30 inches. I know for sure that we got at least 24 inches. We more likely got close to 30.
I rescheduled for an afternoon flight since the parking lot here hasn’t been plowed yet. I need to get to BWI by noon - I think I can handle that… Anyone know when Light Rail is supposed to start running again?
Well, I’m stuck in Baltimore. But it’s ok, because I’m snowed in with Boyfriend.
I wished for a little snow before I came up here, and look what I get. 22 inches. The drifts have covered my car almost completely.
We have some crazy pictures on Boyfriend’s website. The url is http://www.bigbenkennedy.com. Check out the guestbook. The pictures are in the first couple of posts at the top.
Just talked to my parents in Lexington, KY; they have had an ice storm and the power has been off since 2:00 am Sunday. Their hawthorne tree has fallen down and several other trees are damaged. Much of the city is without power and the University is closed. My brother brought them a kerosene heater so temperatures inside the house are tolerable, but my mother says stores in the area are running out of kersosene. They had to drive several miles to a neighborhood that still had electricity to eat dinner tonight.
My brother, my Dad, and my nephew worked on chopping up the defunct hawthorne today. I played Pollyanna when I talked to them and told them they should have put the wood on the driveway and then made a big bonfire so as to teach the grandkids how people got heat and cooked their food before electricity. I scolded them for letting a valuable educational opportunity go to waste. Of course, I’m in a climate where the high today was around 60 farenheit…so I’m being a meanie and laughing at the less fortunate. (I jokingly ask them when they are going to move to New Mexico.)
