The Book of Boba Fett

He probably used the Dark side to murder the troopers, which is why the Jedi couldn’t do it.

From Ahsoka’s mind meld back in Chapter 13:

He was raised at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Many Masters trained him over the years. At the end of the Clone Wars when the Empire rose to power, he was hidden. Someone took him from the Temple. Then his memory becomes… dark. He seemed lost. Alone.

Watching the succession of Jedi Masters and students is like a lesson in generational abuse. Luke has the Yoda manipulative strategy down, now he can practice some patented Obi-Wan disingenuity on young Grogu. The one constant in the Star Wars Universe: Jedi Master = Asshole.

I missed that, actually, but now it makes me wish they’d gotten to the Mando stuff sooner.

One of my biggest takeaways from this episode is that I’m really looking forward to the Ahsoka series.

Me, too. It was clear she and Luke had disagreements. She was resigned to letting him make them.

I think the point is that he used the dark side to kill them, not that the others couldn’t.

So Grogu has repressed memories of significant Jedi skills and of using the Dark Side powerfully but is a bit of a Tommy?

I suppose. Although that gets into some fiddly arguments about how killing them with a Force choke is dark side and evil, but killing them with a lightsaber would have been totally legit and cool.

Force choke is really just to terrorize everyone else. If you need to kill a bunch of guys in a hurry, Force aortic rupture is the way to go.

It’s not the manner of killing that is the issue, it’s the way the person doing the killing feels. Dark side force powers come from anger fear and hate.

Obi-Wan’s dismemberment fetish was totally light-side.

I can buy that force lightning requires rage and/or hate to use, but “force choke” is just a different application of the generic force telekinesis all force users can do. The whole ‘light side powers’ vs. ‘dark side powers’ thing falls apart if you look at it too closely, but so does a lot of fiction.

Sure, but “Force Choke” isn’t necessarily a Dark Side power. Luke uses it on one of the guards at Jabba’s palace at the beginning of Jedi. Vader using it to murder anyone who pisses him off is Dark Side, but Luke used it to non-lethally bypass the guards so he could rescue his friend.

It’s also a fairly inefficient way of killing people, specially when multiple people are shooting at you, so I assume that is not what he did. The telekinetic neck snapping Eleven does in Stranger Things seems like a much more applicable way of killing people.

I’m betting on mass Force Lightning.

If only for the badass quotient.

Plus, you know, they were literally under the influence of mind-controlling computer chips in their brains, so slaughter of the innocent on top of that, I guess?

Grogu would have no way of knowing about that, though, nor would any of the other Jedi. That wouldn’t factor into the moral calculus of their actions.

And tying one’s boots is just like garroting someone—simply using a bit of string.

There was a mention of Grand Admiral Thrawn in an episode of the Mandalorian.

He was the third season villain on Rebels. The mention in Mandalorian is a direct follow up to the conclusion of that series.
