The Book of Boba Fett

“Quiet, bud.”

But yeah, I liked it, too.

I guess it really did evade the uncanny valley, given that Hamill didn’t provide any voice acting at all and Luke’s voice was produced by an AI.

Wow, even more impressive.

It ain’t that kinda TV series, kid.

I have a theory about Star Wars.

Everyone has at least some connection to the Force (“it surrounds us and penetrates us, it brings the galaxy together”), but the degree of that connection is quite variable.

It’s like being able to walk/run for us. Absent some kind of disability, we can all walk or run at least a little bit. But some of us are slow and unsteady, most of us can get around regular life pretty well, some of us are amateur runners doing fun runs on the weekends, and some of us are winning gold medals in the Olympics.

Most everyone has some sense of the Force, but can’t use it all that well. Some, like Cad Bane and Han Solo, have a strong but largely unconscious connection to the Force. This is how Han is able to routinely out-fly the space equivalent of F16 fighters in the space equivalent of cargo plane. He just knows exactly when to turn to lead the other guy into crashing into an asteroid. The Jedi/Sith are the Olympic athletes - they have the highest naturally occurring connection to the Force, and they spend years training so that they know exactly how to use it for the best effect.

Yes, whenever you notice something like that, The Force did it.

Heresy. Princess Carolyn rules.

Otherwise, I’m largely in agreement. Not a great show. Watchable. Not great.

But then (whisper it), I’m not a huge fan of The Mandalorian either. Better. But also not great.

Sharpening my pitchforks…

(Makes Invasion of the Body Snatchers shriek)

I have to concur here. Does it even make sense that Boba’s so old? What is he, like 10 or 12 years older than Luke? And yet in this show he’s like 30 years older. I think fans would have accepted a different actor, especially in retrospect with Morrison’s rather bland performance.

Nope, no good reason why he’s so old. No explanation for how he gained 75 pounds while in the Sarlacc either.

I think “partially digested by the Sarlacc” explains why he looks older.

I just did my best to suspend my disbelief when it came to his weight. I still couldn’t stop myself from thinking, “That armor’s not going to be terribly effective if someone attacks him from the side,” though.

Close – Fett is thirteen years older, according to Wookieepedia. They list Fett’s birth year as “32 BBY” (32 years Before the Battle of Yavin), and Luke’s birth year as 19 BBY.

As The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett take place around 9 ABY, that’d make Fett 41 years old in these shows. Clearly, it’s not the years, it’s the mileage.

His fight scenes were atrocious. The first one, from the first episode, was just slow and lumbering. Then, all the rest looked like they were sped up in post-production to make them look “normal.” Unfortunately, the sped-up effect made it seem like Yakety Sax could’ve kicked in at any moment.

I suppose it could be argued that as a clone he aged differently, even though he wasn’t given the Super-Duper Aging Serum that the rest of the clones were given.

I agree – accelerated aging due to imperfections in the cloning process, and/or exposure to Sarlaac digestion, could explain things in a fan-wanky sort of way. Ultimately, of course, it comes down to a 60 year old actor, who’s gotten a little heavier in the middle (as many 60 year olds do), playing a character who’s two decades younger.

Seeing how they use the same word to measure space and time in this galaxy, I just figure aging and distance are kind of meaningless in Star Wars.

Which makes him 4 years younger than Ahsoka.

Let’s remember how slight the original actor was.

The fact that he fought just as poorly with his helmet on - when he could have easily been played by a stuntman - indicates that the problem was more with the direction, not the actor.
