Modern-day Oregon wasn’t part of the Louisiana purchase, which was bounded on the West by Idaho, nor claimed by France. The Oregon Territory was jointly claimed by the US, Spain, Russia, and Great Britain until 1846, when Britain was the last non-US power to cede its claim (or rather, the territory was divided along the 49th parallel).
They could make a movie out of it and call it Escape from Harney County.
Where does this indictment leave the four holdouts? They do not want to leave because they do not want to lose their right to own firearms. Yet, that bargaining chip is kind of toasted, since they have been charged. All they are doing now is starving themselves and freezing their toes off to no good end. Are they attempting slow martyrdom?
Sounds like they still think that they’re starting some kind of revolution.
I think that they have a somewhat inflated sense of their importance.
They also have a very inflated sense of how many people not only support them, but support them enough to lay down their lives for them. They seem to think that it’s hundreds, maybe even thousands or millions. I think it’s a lot closer to zero.
Maybe this is all a publicity stunt for a new reality show!
This is from last week when the Bundys and others were first arrested, and many were starting to flee the refuge.
The first idiot is Sean Anderson, one of the four who remains. The “Bad Boys” singer is Jeff Banta, another holdout. That seems to be the only thing he has contributed so far.
The article claims:Also indicted are four still at the refuge: Sean Anderson, David Lee Fry, Jeff Wayne Banta and Sandra Lynn Pfeifer Anderson.
I’m pretty sure when all the charges are brought, there will be few if any of the occupiers that will legally retain their right to firearms. And, I’m also pretty sure, that there will be few if any occupiers would be able to afford to purchase a firearm post garnished wages to pay for the damage.
Bundy Sr. needs his indictin’ too.
Throw the book, try them in a court of law, and if found guilty set an example that this type of terrorism and intimidation isn’t acceptable. You simply can’t have a “peaceful” occupation at the barrel of a gun. Some of the 2nd amendment enthusiasts don’t quite seem to understand that even with legal open carry, and firearm can still very much a weapon of intimidation. Oddly enough, if the Bundyites had done an unarmed occupation, I would have supported that (while still thinking they were loons).
Problem is, Cliven has not really done anything indictable. He has satten in his wing-back chair and shouted ArchieBunkervillisms at the Feds, mailed a meaningless letter to Sheriff Ward, and encouraged others to take up the cause (which, as I recall, he initially did not support), but he has kept himself otherwise beyond the reach of criminal law. Even in his original stand, he did not take a gun in his hands or take any real action on his own. Just shouted a lot.
There is a term, “stochastic terrorism”, which refers to indirectly inciting others to do bad things. Like Bob Radiohost says on his program, “that abortion clinic ought to be bombed,” and then someone bombs that abortion clinic. Our Freedom of Speech! protects this kind of nonspecific threat, but I am not really sure it should. Too bad the 28 Amendment has not been drafted, the one that says, “Don’t be an Asshole”.
He’s failed to pay a judgment despite having the means to do so. Eventually, that means indirect criminal contempt proceedings.
No, I’m not. It can be taken for granted that either the U.S. or Britain was going to take the land, regardless of whether it actually originally belonged to either.
Go home, Oregon State Police, says the idiot from Idaho.
I like this bit from Ammon Bundy’s taped message:[
](A week after telling Oregon standoff holdouts to go, Ammon Bundy now tells police to leave - oregonlive.com)
“Educational efforts” :dubious::rolleyes:
Yes you are. Try reading the thread. That wasn’t the original point. You’re nitpicking an irrelevancy.
BJ Soper, of the Pacific Patriots Network, writer of the “letter of intent” so superbly dealt with by the Harney County Court, has been frothing at the mouth for a while, calling for every able bodied militiaman that cares about the country to come to Burns and end the illegal FBI occupation, arrest the ones responsible for Finicum’s death, help escort the rest out of town, and demand the removal of the corrupt sheriffs and county officials and blah blah blah, you know the drill. Rumor was that they planned to march their way to the refuge for an “extraction” (because they like cool military words).
People have been getting worried. Saturday is the day! Shits going down!
Oh nevermind… https://twitter.com/jjmacnab/status/695406458402246656
Looks like the FBI must have given them a good stern talkin’ to.
They (the Feds) are playing them against each other. The lower you are, the more counts you got. They’re (again, the Feds) offering the lower people plea bargains against the higher ones, in exchange for reduced number of charges.
This is rather amusing to watch. From a distance, of course.
You should read the indictment.
Given events, the police should have had a camera team in place to film at the first takedown and the roadblock to deal with the conspiracy BS.
Or a sad end to the Snake Plissken trilogy. ![]()
Rolling Stone article: The Darkness In Burns
You have to admit, he has provided us with a very enlightening lesson on what ignorance and stupidity looks like.
And he is clearly smarter than the rest of us. He understands who “we the people” is and what they want. We seemed to be confused about that.
