Why now? Were they spurred to act by the Malheur nonsense? Were they planning to act all along and is it just coincidental with Malheur? Inquiring people want to know.
My view is that Cliven Bundy making himself a target of opportunity is what has spurred this. If they had started arresting people without getting Bundy, I think you would see another mass congregation at his place. Once they’ve chopped off the head, it’s easier to gather up the pieces.
That’s just a guess, of course.
I concur. The FBI had to wait until it was feasible to arrest Cliven Bundy without incident or he would have holed up deeper. Once he was arrested, the scattered supporting cast was prolly deemed to be much easier to approach and apprehend.
Davey Bundy’s wife doesn’t understand why they arrested her husband. He had nothing to do with the Oregon thing. Uh, he was arrested for the Nevada thing, not the Oregon thing.
Here is a list of everyone arrested so far, for Malheur and Bunkerville:

Cliven was arrested at 10PM and the feds filed the indictment the next day so they were definitely ready to act when he was arrested.
There is a theory that I sort of believe that Malheur had nothing to do with land rights or any of that nonsense. It was done because the Bundys knew indictments for 2014 were about to come out, so they found a cause they whip up the gun toting idiots about and surrounded themselves with them. But whether the feds would have started rounding people up before getting Cliven is a good question.
And here is the superceding indictment for Bunkerville that names many of the people arrested today.
And, wow I can’t wait to read all this!, here is 610 pages of emails and text messages from the Oregon Governor’s office relating to the standoff.
[Now Carol Bundy, Cliven’s wife, can’t keep her fool mouth shut:

Can’t do it - sorry. I have to reorganize my sock drawer.
It’s great that they went after the snipers. They need to understand that you don’t get to play Rambo without consequences.
Ok, don’t bother. I read it all and it’s incredibly boring. There’s virtually no new information. It’s probably 100 pages of actual communications and 500 pages of duplicates because the original emails are all quoted in every reply. The actual communications are not the least bit interesting.
I hope those pig-fuckers get nice, long sentences with no chance of parole. Let them rot.
It’s this sort of apathy that is undermining the very essence of Western civilisation. You disgust me.
Now, now. They’re cow fuckers.
I have to close an arms deal in Tanzania or pick up some copra in Guam — I forget which.
I need to watch Elendil’s Heir organize socks. Will one come up missing? The suspense is agony!
Meh, it’ll be discovered to be behind the couch in Episode 2, mark my words.
I think the court of public opinion has already spoken, and sent bags of dicks.
At least my sock drawer is nice.

It was the copra.
C’mon over at 2. It’ll be fun!
I might need that as a bumper sticker.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with how this has all played out. The one life lost is unfortunate, but the overall approach by the FBI has been restrained and reasonable. Early in the Oregon standoff, I hoped that the FBI would take the opportunity to arrest Cliven. While it didn’t play out exactly that way, I’m fully satisfied with the way the FBI has moved to bring legal consequences for those involved in both the Nevada and Oregon standoffs. Honestly, I’m amazed with the rather high number of prosecutions and the low number of dead. I didn’t think it would work out nearly that well.
