Oh, this is priceless. He and his ilk (Og, I love that word, it sounds so slimy) seem to believe that having guns lets them do what they like even if others don’t like what they do. Now they’re up against the feds, who have lots more guns, and lots, LOTS bigger guns, than they do, which by their logic means the feds should be able to do what they want even if the people don’t like what they do. And the Bundyites don’t like it.

Wait, does Bundy have a herd if ilks as well as his herd of cows? Are they starving too? Does he brand them? (Are the Bundies themselves ilks?) I think ilks are destructive to the environment – Like cows, they pollute the air with too much methane. When all of Bundy’s ilks were out there aiming their guns at the Feds to protect Bundy’s cows, who was protecting Bundy’s ilks? Did Bundy ever pay any ilk grazing fees? If not, they too should be rounded up and confiscated.

They got a start on that up in Oregon, with the ilks they rounded up there.

Sheriff Pamela Elliott has created an atmosphere of paranoia in Edwards County that causes her opponents to gather fearfully in “safe houses” to air their complaints, reported Alex Hannaford for the Texas Observer.

Elliott is a member of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA), a right-wing coalition that encourages members to disobey laws they don’t think are constitutional.

She put out a “standby order for volunteers” during the 2014 standoff at Bundy ranch, which was supported by CSPOA co-founder Richard Mack — a former Arizona sheriff who suggested the anti-government militants use women and children as human shields during the armed confrontation with federal agents over unpaid grazing fees.

Rachel Gallegos, the former mayor, said Elliott sent her deputies into polling places in Hispanic neighborhoods during the 2014 midterm elections — and she said the intimidation tactic worked on older voters.

This woman sounds like a real piece of work. Supposedly she’s arrested local Latino officials on trumped up corruption charges and unfairly accused local Latino citizens of voting fraud.

She’s also tried to strong arm her way into local Democratic committee meetings with claims that they’re subject to an open meetings act.

Above the Law

Ten minutes after the start of the meeting, all four of the executive committee members in Gallegos’ house were gabbing about the posse amassed outside. Then there was a loud knock at the door — Sheriff Elliott. “She came to the door in uniform and was about to come in, so I held the door and said, ‘May I help you?’” Gallegos says.

According to Gallegos, Elliott said she had a right to attend the meeting and that she’d received permission from the Texas attorney general to be there under the Open Meetings Act. “She held her boot in the door and I told her to have him call me — that if he said she could be there I’d let her in,” Gallegos says. “And nobody ever called me, of course.”

Caroline Ramirez, who dropped her husband off at the meeting, described the crowd outside as an “angry mob.” Later, she would state in a written complaint submitted to the attorney general, the secretary of state and the district attorney that she “was shocked that [Elliott] was in uniform but wasn’t doing anything to control the crowd, keep the peace, or protect them or us. She seemed to be encouraging the mob. I wanted to call someone, but I had no idea who I should call if the head of our law enforcement is part of the problem.”
