That might be the case if the federal courts would seriously entertain that claim in the first place. And monkeys might fly out of my butt.
Well, indeed. But just theorising here for the fun of it. I fully understand the Bundys are legally screwed in every way (and rightly so).
Perhaps they could convince natural man and US Superior Court Judge Bruce Doucette to preside over the trial, then arrest him for that stunt he pulled in Arizona.
And off into the Wild Orange Yonder.
The sky is orange, in places, around sunrise. Pink, mostly, though. But if someone told me that the sky was blue, I would say, “You must not be from around here. ‘Grey’ is the word we use.”
Progress: one person has pleaded guilty to tearing down the surveillance cameras and will get a smidgen of prison time, a few months of funny-farm evaluation, a couple years of supervised release and pay restitution. He was not charged in the occupation itself.
Meanwhile, back at the Funny Ranch called the Arizona legislature,
*… Arizona state Rep. Bob Thorpe said (OR Gov. Kate) Brown and Rep. Greg Walden, R-Oregon, should pressure federal officials for a “transparent investigation” into the case and First Amendment rights to “peaceably assemble.”
“After gunning-down and killing the unarmed Finicum, who was shot in his back 3 times, the federal government now has the audacity to label Finicum, and the citizens who peaceably assembled along with him, as domestic terrorists,” Thorpe wrote.*
I get the feeling that this will not go away. The Tea-Shirts will worry the death of Bob like a pack of curs trying to get meat off a bleached bone.
Since when does the definition of “peaceably assemble” include the armed occupation of a federal building, and threats of violence?
When it’s your side.
When you are Old White Guys waving American flags.
:dubious:
Arizona leads the nation in right to peacefully assemble as well as exercise your second amendment rights. Ask Ike Clanton, Billy Clanton, Tom McLaury, and Frank McLaury.
And Gabrielle Giffords.
ETA: I see the AZ legislature is revising the facts to fit their viewpoint. Finicum *was *armed, in the conventional sense, with a handgun. He also tried to use his truck as a weapon. Not sure where the bullets entered from, but that hardly matters because this wasn’t a game.
If he’d been 13 years old, armed with a stick in a playground, then he’d have been fair game.
Yes, except Bob Finicum was white. Inexcusable.
Well, THAT means he was a patriot, and not a thug. QED.
He didn’t choose the Not A Thug life, it chose him.
Cliven’s lawyer asked a sympathetic Utah legislator to ask the Koch Brothers for money for Cliven’s defense. Apparently he was not given an answer.
Ah, just the sort of rugged self-reliance we’ve come to expect from Mr. Bundy.
Hey, why not. I love it when idiots donate money to lost causes.
Ammon Bundy is butthurt that his right to have guns is being violated while he’s in jail. Among other stupid things.
