The Bundys are at it again.

Yes, “flouting” is the correct SAT choice versus “flaunting”. D’oh.

Maybe the Paiute should do that, just to hold the stuff for safekeeping until this nonsense ends.

Who knows, maybe concern about those cultural artifacts is one of the reasons they haven’t gone in by force.

But also, the government is coddling these insurgents. I don’t think that the county government and/or the Burns Paiute could get together a real posse and oust them by force without being immediately charged with crimes, yet the upper levels of government refuse to act to protect the citizens of the county from these gun toting anarchists.

When Da’esh razed a town of historical significance because they found it offensive, the media displayed some very stern miffery toward them. The Bund tore up some land and stomped on a site of archaeological significance: now we ought to be equating them with Da’esh. They are the same as the terrorists.

I heard on the news this morning that Ammon Bundy showed up, out of the blue, at a local FBI office asking to speak with a negotiator. I wish they had told him: Nah, we’re not really interested. You can go back to your bird sanctuary now.

I believe Article 4 specifically deals with lands that are territories, and not States, like Puerto Rico, American Samoa or the lands that comprise Yellowstone National Park when it was formed in 1872. Lands that the Federales own within any State must have “the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned”.

Not sure how you define “illegal”, but I’m pretty sure the US Congress hasn’t passed a bill and the President signed it making the National Park Service a violation of Law.

That the National Park Service is unconstitutional is obvious, nowhere is the Right to hold vast expanses of Public Land explicitly given to the Federales. Therefore the 10[sup]th[/sup] Amendment kicks in and only the States have the right to hold these lands … AND … only the States have legal standing in a court of law.

Here’s where I question your claim that the Federales hold these lands illegally, I honestly believe the States have the Right to give these lands to the Federales, and once given it’s a done deal. Remember, the courts can’t just up and declare something unconstitutional until a valid complaint is presented to them to rule on, and individuals have no standing to do so.

We the People of the State of Oregon deeply appreciate the United States tax-payers helping to finance the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, please come visit what you’ve so generously provided.

(Psst…**Ennui **doesn’t actually hold these beliefs. He’s stating the Taliranchers’ beliefs…with a hint of irony.)

Harney County is the size of Massachusetts with a population of 7,700, of which over half live in Greater Metropolitan Burns/Hines there along the US-395 Urban Corridor. I completely agree with you, but the People of Harney County do not. If it was up to me, I’d give ELF a call …

My apologies to you, Ennui and Taliranchers

The FBI started reaching out a few days ago but didn’t have a way to contact him. Ammon went to the FBI camp yesterday to make contact. They told him the negotiator wasn’t on site but they could speak by phone.

I’d like to think it’s a positive first step, except it sounds like nothing came of it. Details here.

Emerson, huh?

He was probably trying too hard to keep from laughing to get that far. The exerpts of the conversation here read like an Onion article. “Local Man (or not) Holds Bird Sanctuary Hostage but Isn’t Sure Why.”

Things must feel frustrating over at The Onion. “What can we make up that would top this?!”

Flip-flopping, as you’ve so kindly pointed out my skills are somewhat lacking.

Please … NEVADA militia …

Why the FUCK wasn’t he arrested at that time???

He has an heavily armed entourage. The police do not want to get involved in a firefight, though, to my thinking, they should just go in, inform him he is under arrest and the first guy that so much as raises a weapon get taken down. They have the guns, but how can they think that is a comfort? How could they possibly use them without ruining their last threadbare shred of credibility?

And first announce by bullhorn that if anybody dies, in uniform or out of uniform, every single one of the (surviving) dipshits will be charged with felony murder, and no cop will be. And follow through with that, too, should the situation arise. That’s how they should have handled the elder Bundy’s standoff.

Uh, as much as I’d like that to happen, I’m not sure the law works that way.

RICO statutes would apply here: obstruction of justice and terrorism are both specifically designated as racketeering activities under 18 USC. Oregon also has their own RICO statutes, so that might apply as well depending on where things take place.
