The Bundys are at it again.

Suggesting that RICO could be used to charge every person at the refuge with murder, no matter who was killed and who was involved, is playing into the yahoos’ belief that the government overreaches its authority.

Fair irony. The government overreaches its authority, but the occupiers do not.

:dubious:

What could the government do, besides capitulate, that would not play into that belief?

Treading lightly with these buffoons is a mistake, IMO. Our government needs to act like one and arrest these lawbreakers. If they want to resist arrest, then they should be treated accordingly.

You don’t even need RICO It’s just how felony murder works. If you’re in the midst of committing a felony, and someone dies as a result of that felondy–yes, even a cop–then you can be charged.

Or, at least, that’s how it’s been explained to me on these very boards. There’s talk about a getaway driver being charged because one of the other guys shoots a cop.

That’s true, BigT. Murder that occurs during the commission of a felony is murder by all involved in the felonious act, AFAIK; good point.

No argument that something needs to be done. More people are coming to the refuge, the occupiers are forming sovereign citizen juries to try anyone they don’t like, and things are generally getting worse.

I’m generally a fan of hyperbole, especially in the Pit, but “murder charges for all!” is a hyperbole too far.

I would think that the justice department, FBI and the rest of the authorizes can make a legal approach for law enforcement to go in and shut these clowns down. RICO or otherwise. They can even get this highlighted in the press. Whether the Bundyites come along peacefully as a law abiding citizen that believe in the constitution should (and have their day in court in needed), or the proper legal shitrain should come down on their head.

I would think that such a plan is ready to go whenever the proper deciderer decides.

And while I would like to take care of Bundy Sr legally at the same time, it would probably be better to keep Sr on the back burner for a few months.

It’s the felony-murder rule: If I rob a bank and I kill a guard, I’m guilty of murder. If my partner kills a guard, I’m guilty of murder. If a guard kills my partner, I’m guilty of murder. Taking over public property by threat of armed force has got to be some sort of felony.

I have a problem with going Waco on these guys … easy to say we’ll charge them with murder after they kill a cop … but we still a dead cop … that’s never worth it.

Kill the militiamen? Good way to create martyrs … look what happen when the Romans killed Jesus Christ. Besides, it’s inhumane to kill these people, this is the United States and in the United States we send our criminals to be buttfucked in prison for ten years.

Don’t kill them. Just drop them back by plane.

Three Free Beers to any pilot who can get their hides to land within a 20 foot ring of the compound/building.

Like clockwork, an asinine comment about prison rape.

On some level these people, or at least some of them want another Waco or Ruby Ridge. Something to be a “flash point” to launch a “movement.” I think we’d be far better off with another Montana Freeman style standoff, no shots fired and a lot of convictions.

And a couple of them had their sentences extended by fifteen years for pulling the standard I am a Freemen on the Land so you owe me money nonsense.

The obvious solution is to get together a flash-mob of around a thousand or two people, bus them in there to overrun the place, then the police can come in and arrest everyone. The Bund would be pretty off-balance in a crowd.

Especially because they would be the only ones not participating in the tightly-choreographed version of Step In Time from Mary Poppins.

Missed the edit window: also, did you mean a thousand people, or two people? Because, I don’t think you can get a very good flash mob going with only two people.

This is also in the linked article:[

This needs to end and it needs to end much, much sooner rather than later.

When was Bundy appointed to SCOTUS? I don’t recall that happening.

In these people’s world the county sheriff is the highest authority in the land. So who does the Harney County sheriff answer to? Can’t he be ordered to end the damn thing, or is he pulling a Kim Davis?
