The dead man is just an extreme case of the like-minded (sorry to use the term “mind” there) idiots who adhere to the “flag fringes” and other nonsense “theories”. They evidently expect those who know better (police officers, judges) to cow down when these idiots pull their inane stunts, but of course that doesn’t happen. The dead man likely thought that uttering the so-called “magic words” while he was charging the armed LEOs was all he needed to save his sorry tush from being arrested; he probably didn’t expect anyone to actually shoot. The most entertaining part of the trial of the surviving parasites…er, occupiers will, no doubt, be the part when the witnesses (said LEOs) testify as to what the idiot said when he charged at them while brandishing his weapon.
To which the dickwads would reply that the “property” in question was “Federal property,” and since the “Federal government” is a fiction, so was the “property.” Since there was no property, it couldn’t have been destroyed. QED.
Why not bolster the cause of the 2nd Amendment by calling up the militia and rally around the commander-in-chief to help suppress this act of treasonous behavior?
To ensure total & complete victory, President Obama appoints Ted Nugent as General of the rough ‘n tumble, pretty racist, but lovable militia nicknamed "Ol’ Soiled Pants Brigade."
Obama then orders Brave Sir Ted to personally lead his men in front and center into battle to take hill “Malheur NWR.”
Should brave Sir Ted suffer more than a flesh wound, I posit his last words will be:
As for the police, I’m actually surprised at the amount of restraint they showed. They’re clearly trying to walk a line between ignoring the problem (so that it festers and grows unchecked) and aggressively attacking it (which feeds their anti-government rhetoric). The police have definitely demonstrated tremendous tact and patience in giving them enough rope to hang themselves.
The remaining militant who faces felony charges is Sean Anderson, better known as the wacko in the live stream yesterday calling for fellow “patriots” to join them for the last stand, and encouraging them to kill any LEO who tried to stop them.
I don’t know if this is the sole reason he faces charges and the other three don’t, but it certainly can’t be a point in his favor.
It could be my imagination, but I think they’re only arresting the original occupiers.
The occupation is going to get a lot less pleasant now. With police checkpoints, there won’t be any more visitors, no more trips to town for cigarettes and beer, and limited access to the media. I can’t see it going on much longer.
IAAL. Treason charges in the U.S. are very rare - only 40 cases since the Constitution was ratified. I think it might be overkill here - plenty of other, less politically-charged things to indict them for. For more: Treason - Wikipedia
I don’t think that’s right, but I’m not sure either. This guy had spent very little time at the reserve - only a few days here and there - and wasn’t really known until his tirade yesterday. It will be interesting to learn what determined which ones are charged.
If he was involved in resupply, that is kind of non-trivial support. If he is not encouraging his compatriots to pack up and leave, he is instrumental in impeding. And anyway, the Feds offered a grace period to leave without being arrested. He could have bit on that, but he chose to stick it out. You stick it out, they chop it off.
Agreed, but I can see that applying to pretty much anyone who was at the reserve for any period of time. They must have some criteria for who is charged (and to be clear, I’m fine with charging all of them).
For those interested, here’s some more background on the law under which they are being charged. It was created in Civil War times to provide a means to arrest Confederate sympathizers who were seizing federal property or interfering with federal troops and employees.
