The Burning Dog Inn

Yeah, Cairne seems to have attracted a large crowd.

Tabard Design Tool.

This tool will allow you to experiment with tabard designs, which we’ll actually be purchasing shortly since we’re richer than we thought.

My idea again, which I think is clean and SDMB-themed.

Mine, again.

Are just some things I whipped up, I thought it’s be better to do in game shots (especially since I didn’t like the interface of that site.)

Darn shame we can’t put custom graphics in there.

Seriously though, I’m a fan of the pawprint, but rather indifferent as to the color. I’d say either Palooka or Jayjay’s design should go.

I’m seriously thinking about joining you guys, if you’ll have me. I have a question though, my husband would like to play too. He’s not a member of the Dope, but is a lurker and has even met some Dopers through a Dopefest here.

Could he join too if we decided to roll new toons on Cairne?

I really can’t see a reason why that wouldn’t be okay, Taters. Let’s see how others feel.

Okay, I’ll wait and see what the response is to my husband joining as well.

We always play WoW together.

Tates, holy crap, you play too?!

Yup, both the hubby and I. Hubby was a beta tester for the game before it was ever released. Our kids play as well.

Our highest level toons are 70s on Spinebreaker. We play Horde there.

Hah. I’m a much more reserved, player. But a player.

I don’t know if my vote counts for anything but I don’t see why we wouldn’t let spouses join. Especially if they lurk here anyway.

It’s fine. My son joined and there’s at least one set of spouses. I think we decided to keep it to family, not friends, though.

It’s hard for me to play much right now because my hand is in a cast - even though I use the Logitech G15 gaming keyboard that I LOVE! So, i’m not leveling very fast and spending most of my time working on professions. Oh, and the fact that my satellite lag is anywhere from 1400mps-4500 grrr.

Still tryin to convert the SO/Projammer to the dark side… guess i’m not tempting him w/the right cookies! (anyone else want to help convert him?)

You’ll have to try Winter Veil gingerbread cookies…

It’s ridiculous to think that a family member or friend couldn’t join the guild. Of course your husband is welcome! We may be elitist but we trust you to be elitist too!

There were some requests for help and hints about how to use the Auctioneer Mod. I use it a lot, to buy and sell items, and to play the market for profit. I use the latest preview version from the Auctioneer website. The package comes with several mods. I recommend them all. I’ll assume everyone knows how to install it by copying the mod’s folders into the WoW AddOns folder.

  1. Go to the Auction House. Talk to the auctioneer which will open the auction dialog. Go to the Appraiser tab and click the Configure button.

  2. I’m not sure what the defaults any more, but I’ll go through the options I consider important. Feel free to play around with the options until you get what you like. I like to toggle off a lot of the information it gives you. Under Stat Modules, toggle off Classic, Purchased, and StdDev. Under Simple, leave on only 14-day average. I like to use Multiply by stack size, but that’s a matter of preference. When you hover over an item, you will get a useful, but not too much pricing data.

  3. Next let’s look at the options under Util Modules. Under Appraiser, I have all the options at the top turned on, plus Use Matching. I set the default listing time to 48 hours. Pricing modules should be set to Market. Under CompactUI, turn it on! Also be sure to click on Prevent Other.

  4. For PriceLevel, I turn on the options. I use the following price points: Red 150%, Orange 110%, Yellow 90%, Green 50%, Blue 0%. The coloring scheme works like this: items that are within 10% of the market value will be yellow. A little expensive ones are orange. Red ones are way over-priced. Green is a good deal, and blue is a bargain.

  5. I also turn on ScanButtons and ScanProgresses.

  6. Now you’re ready to scan. Go back to Browse tab and click the play button. It will scan the entire AH. It’s much faster than it used to be, typically 3-5 minutes instead of 15-20. I typically scan once or twice a day. It’s easiest to keep a dedicated mule character at the AH to do all your AH work. It will take about a week to have enough data to get reliable price estimates. Be patient. An item’s price info is reliable once you have more than 100 points over a week (look for “Seen N over M days” in the tooltip).

  7. Once you have stable price data, you will know how much to sell your items for. Go to the Appraiser tab. Go to Configure->Match->Undercut. These options help you price items to sell. I use Max Under at -30%, Max Over at 5%, and Undercut at 10%. A tooltip will tell you what these mean exactly. If your item doesn’t sell, you lose the deposit. I find these work fairly well, without losing too much on low prices.

  8. To place an item on the AH, click on it’s line in the left Appraiser pane. There’s a bunch of sliders controlling specifics. The defaults work fine, but feel free to play with them. I usually use Market and Price Matching. I click the Refresh button to get up-to-date price data before posting the item. When you’re ready click the Post Items button. Voila! You’re in the market.

  9. If you happen to get a blue or purple quality item, it’s better go with a low opening bid and high buyout. Don’t worry if it doesn’t sell immediately. Once it sells, it will more than make up for the deposit costs.

  10. I generally don’t buy things on the AH, but now you’ll know if you’re getting a good deal.

  11. Those are the basics. If you’re brave you can play the market and try to make a profit. The way to do it: buy low, sell high. Watch how prices and volume changes over time. It’s best to get to know a few types of goods in particular. Price to sell; you lose money every time something doesn’t sell. Avoid items that have high deposit costs, unless you’re sure to sell. And remember above all else, the AH is PVP–watch for market manipulations. Don’t make a bet you can’t afford to lose.

Feel free to ask questions here or in game (Riverheart/Omencaller).

Thank you so much for sharing all this info. There is little documentation of this preview version. Your hints and tips will be a big help to those of us who are new to Auctioneer.

Thanks everyone. It’ll probably be a couple of days before we roll the toons. We’ve got a lot going on with family obligations and appointments, but then we’ll roll.

I’ll use my screen name (not very WoWy sounding), and I’ll try to get hubby to use Mr. Taters.

Happy Easter all.
