In your face, ROC!

Some parts of Vanier can be rough. The Montfort is a French Hospital there. Vanier and further east Orleans has a large Francophone population.

By contrast in Montreal they removed the licensesof nurses at an English Hospital who didn’t do so well in French.

Calgarians drive an hour out of town to go to emerg in a small town, because the wait times are so much shorter than in Calgary (at least we don’t have to go to another province!).

Socialized healthcare - better than the alternative!

Premier Wall calls out the Bombers.

He who laughs last, laughs best…

As a Bomber fan all I can say is, Well Done! Too bad the Riders couldn’t have played the 13th man, they might have won…

The PQ has unveiled the Values Charter. Personally, I think the rest of Canada is getting trolled on this one; they want us to react so the PQ can say “See? We can’t set our own agenda until we leave Canada!”

I don’t see how a government telling me what I can’t wear is any less oppressive than a religion that tells me what I have to wear.

In some ways more so as you can quit a religion (with the attendant consequences) but how do you quit a government short of moving?

Aye. That’s the rub.

Some media are saying that this is an attempt to drive immigrants out of Quebec so that the next separation vote is swayed.

I think this is despicable. However I’m hearing support on talk radio in Ontario. It boggles my mind.

We’re currently doing a two-week trip through the US, and have learned a new, annoying wrinkle on driving in the US - Chevron and Texaco gas stations require you to put in a zip code before you can pay at the pump. As I’m sure you’re all aware, we don’t have a zip code to use (and we don’t want to try to use our default zip code, 90210, because they’re apparently matching zip code to credit card for security purposes, and we don’t want our card confiscated), so we need to go inside the store to pre-pay instead of just paying at the pump like God intended.

Try 00000. It works when I’m doing online shopping (sometimes) but I’ve never tried it at the pumps.

Oh and they won’t confiscate just decline the transaction. I tried the 90210 option while on vacation a few years ago.

Try the first actual zip code that starts with the numbers from your postal code.

So if your postal code is T6T 4X7 start by checking if 64700 is a real zip code. If it’s not (which it isn’t) keep going up one until you find the first one that is (in that case it would be 64701).

It should work.

Or just go in and pay for gas. It’s a pain but that’s about it.

The thing that killed me was the interstate tolls. Those I hated.

The passing of the last Canadian veteran of the International Brigades goes unnoticed :(. These men where the first to fight fascism, now, only history buffs remember them. Even during WW II, if you mentioned you were a veteran of the IB, the Canadian army would reject you, you might be infected with communism. Like we didn’t need veteran soldiers.

Steve Murray imagines a few more things banned by the Québec Values Charter - quite amusing.

I’m very sorry to tell you that this is the first I’ve heard of the Mac-Paps. What a great story.

Another piece of Canadian history that’s too boring to talk about…

Your reaction mirrors that of a Quebec member of another forum that I follow occasionally:

The poster there goes into a little more detail in subsequent posts. FWIW, Le Ministre, I agree with you both.

It was a putrid game for a Rider fan to watch! Hope they’re back in their groove with the Argos coming to town this weekend.

I hope so, too - it’s more fun defeating opponents who are on the top of their game…

I heard a very interesting idea today, to the effect that in the event of another referendum, voting should be given to anyone who can prove current residence in Québec, and/or birth in the province of Québec, regardless of current place of residence. THAT would probably change the results a little…
