Well, for Red Blacks, there are the precedents of the New Zealand All Blacks, and the highly successful Laval Rouge et Or, but still, not on my short list.
Rush is just goofy, and “Nationals” is already in use by the used-to-be-the Expos.

Honestly I didn’t mind Renegades. If they go with Red Blacks the very first thing people will call them is the Red Tapes given they’re from Ottawa.
And personally, my top-of-the-list would still be “Rough Riders”. I’m sorry that the Sask Roughriders have vetoed it. What’s wrong with a league having two teams with almost the same nick, anyway?
. Trust you Easterners to try and make us just like you… Next you’ll be saying we should let a Liberal be our Premier and call in the military when it snows in Calgary!
I jest.
Happy Friday!
I suspect it will inevitably happen, but I have to say that since moving here 20 years ago I don’t miss paying pst/hst at all. HST is still a friggin’ snow job AFAIC.
Ottawa Rush FTW! They could play “Limelight” everytime they score a touchdown!
Ah yes; living in the fish islands…
And in other news, Rob Ford wins his appeal.
In other ,other news: Edmonton gives Oprah truck nuts purse.
I now know what to get the girl that has everything…Except oprah.
Calgary could use a better snow removal strategy than “wait for a chinook to melt it”
As a name for a football team, yes; but at least we’d know who their halftime entertainment would be at their home games.
I see nothing wrong with “Rough Riders,” but if I had to choose from the list, I’d choose “Raftsmen.” It’s a nod to the heritage of the region, which is more than can be said for “Rush.”
The law school wants to be different than the rest of the university, so we get our reading week at the end of January. I’m not complaining!
It also lines up with the free preview of NHL centre ice, so win-win-win!
Re: CFL, I wouldn’t mind “les rouges et noirs.” It’s the least shitty of the options. Hell, call them the Ottawa Russ Jacksons, that’s better! I’ve decided to forever be bitter towards Saskatchewan for their asinine veto. Awesome fan base, wish they would speak up against ownership!
No way, man! That’s just wrong!
I don’t understand how a pipeline to take bitumen to the US would change the price they’re giving us for it, since it is going to a refinery in the US now - I think I will have to do more research on this.
I would love to come! I don’t think I can make it, though.
The National Lacrosse League team has the Edmonton Rush - it works for a lacrosse team, but maybe you’re right - implying that there is anything fast and furious about football is kind of goofy.
I’d be worried that a football team with the name of “Rush” couldn’t complete a passing play. Not exactly what you want in Canadian rules football.
My Facebook is exploding with people flipping out over this, 98% of whom do not understand anything about the process that led to this, could not tell you any substantive about Ford or any other City Hall politician, and in a surprising number of cases do not know what the “City of Toronto” actually is (no, really) even though they live in it.
Ditto. And we had a Rob Ford question on our “statutory interpretation” final, so they really ought to know better…lol
For once, the Premier of Alberta agrees with me - Alberta can’t rely on resource wealth to balance budget. I think it’s a great idea to start investing in energy technologies that actually have a future.
And I very much enjoyed reading about Dr. Abdullah Saleh, who has developed a water purification system which will save thousands of lives in sub-Saharan Africa.
What an admirable person!
The Ontario Liberals’ convention just elected Kathleen Wynne as their leader. Wynne will become Ontario’s first female premier and Canada’s first openly gay first minister.
I don’t hold with the Ontario Liberals, to say the least, but at least reaching those milestones is a positive development.
So, half of the provinces and one territory now have women premiers! The Famous Five must be beaming!
Nice to see a more equitable representation of women at the top in politics.
Except that, like Kim Campbell, Wynne’s being left to clean up the mess of an increasingly unpopular incumbent. It’ll be impressive if she wins her own mandate. If not, I give about as much as a crap about her as I did about Ernie Eves…
I was trying to think back about anything I could remember about Ernie Eves, and all I could come up with was “we had a reduced to clear meat cookout during that east coast blackout, and I think the news praised him because we didn’t turn into Mad Max.”
I’m pretty sure the Liberals won’t win the next election, but I also said that in what, 2003, 2007, and 2011. It really is a GTA versus the rest of the province situation. And why in the hell the Liberals continue to win in Toronto, I have no idea: none what ever. Between eHealth, ORNGE, full day kindergarten, cancellation of two power plants, the green energy FIT program, the health care premium tax, HST, … my God the list goes on forever.
This is possibly the worst provincial government in the history of Canada. Bob Rae’s Ontario NDP government wasn’t even as bad.
Give Tim Hudak a chance Torontonians; could it possibly be worse?
