Just watching the noon news - Alberta is the coldest place on EARTH today! I wasn’t going to go for a walk outside today, but now I’m tempted to do so - goin’ for a walk in the coldest place on earth today!
In other words - Cold. Fuck.

I want it to use one of those magnetic power cords that Apple makes, so that you can back out without wrecking both the block heater cord and the extension cord when you forget to unplug it.
aarrrggghhh!!! Kill!!!
Oh, PERFECT! Can we develop that and use Kickstarter to fund it? (I haven’t seen anyone driving along with their extension cord trailing along behind them yet this year, but the winter is young.)
It was FREAKING cold today, but I got some lovely shots of some of the most magnificent sundogs I’ve ever seen.
The sun and sundogs on both sides.
A secondary arc to the side of the sundog.
A rainbow arc up in the sky above the sun and sundogs. I have never seen this before - I didn’t even know sundogs could DO that!
You need a heater for the heater cord connection.
I’m in Edmonton on my House hunting trip. I figured you guys brought in the cold to help me feel at home (Winnipeg). I heard them mention the coldest place in the world thing today in the lobby. I laughed inside, thinking how often we have that back in the Peg.
I have now discovered that that is a circumzenithal arc! (This picture is not mine, unfortunately - just illustrative of the concept.)
Welcome to Alberta!
(You can take the cold weather back to the Peg when you go.)
McDonald’s poutine will now be available across Canada.
It has been available in NB for a few months now but I’ve always been a bit reluctant to try it. I’m not sure why because I’ll scarf down the Burger King poutine with no issues. Anyone have a review? Should I give it a shot or stick with the regular fries?
PLEASE take the cold back with you!
I never actually eat poutine, nor do I eat at McDonald’s, so I wouldn’t know. Though I suggest you try it once, and if you don’t like it, just don’t get it again.
The one on Bronson Avenue in Ottawa has had it for years. I found the gravy thin, and although McDick’s fries taste good, they’re far too thin and brittle for the authentic chip wagon experience.
Pity, since I think BK does a pretty decent poutine. Costco’s cafeteria is still my favorite national chain in that respect.

Ok, I broke down and bought some (my daughter made me take to to McD’s after gymnastics so I figured what the hell). I agree with the above 100%. I think McD’s fries are fantastic on their own but are too thin and crispy for the true poutine experience.
Here is a remarkable photo - from left to right, Brian Mulroney, Kim Campbell, Jean Chrétien and Stephen Harper en route to Nelson Mandela’s memorial.
According to this report,
That is a remarkable photo. I’d like to be a fly on the wall listening to that conversation.
Mrs Piper and I just got back from the Huron Carole. It’s a group of musicians, led by Tom Jackson, who get together to tour Canada in December to raise money for the local food banks.
Great show! If you have a chance, GO!
If Tom Jackson and his crew can’t get you in the Christmas spirit, your heart is three sizes too small!
In case of my untimely demise, I will wish my fellow Canadians a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
That seems like something that should probably have an explanation!
