I’m 27, and it still sucks balls!
I’m confused - are you talking about The Far Side cartoons by Gary Larson? Different tastes and all that - for me, they’re right up there with Calvin and Hobbes as greatest comic strips of all time.
Different strokes indeed. I once knew a guy who liked listening to Roger Sessions on his commute to school.
Our house was without power until 8 pm yesterday. We also had big chunks fall off of two of the trees in our back yard. Luckily they didn’t hit the roof or fence. Our cable tv and Internet is still out though.
Now that’s funny! ![]()
Top weather story of the year - Southern Alberta’s floods. Reading the article, the numbers once the damage has been assessed are absolutely astonishing.
I still think this is the best image from the whole thing.I still have it on my kitchen cupboard. ![]()
I’ve spoken with my friend. She’s fine, and has been working safely, but she has few good words to say about Toronto Hydro’s reaction. Apparently, they knew this was coming, but did not put crews on standby to meet it. As a result, when TH needed people, many of them were unavailable (TH apparently called crews at 0300, when most of them were asleep and unwilling to get moving quickly). She says that had crews been put on standby at, say, 2100 the previous night, things would not be quite as bad.
Her opinion, of course, but I think she may have a point.
Toronto Hydro is militantly unionized, and it may simply be that workers cannot be “put on standby” at the mere apprehension of a storm.
And so this is Christmas.
Hey, merry Christmas guys.
Thanks! Same to you. Nestled in bed with my Christmas VSOP, in between Christmas Masses. Hope everyone has power back on by now…
Gonna get you out for a skate on the canal and a beer downtown this winter antonio?
Merry Christmas all. Velociraptor is amazingly still asleep, but I’m sure he’ll be up soon and all hyped up.
Merry Christmas, all! Hope that all of you have a good one!
Merry Christmas Everybody!
Merry Christmas!
Are we going to go for another Ottawa Dopefest during Winterlude?
Merry Christmas, everybody! Hope you all have a very nice day.
Merry Christmas!
I’m in Calgary right now, and just got back from a good, long walk. I went down by the river, and it was hard to believe that last June’s floods had ever happened–until you looked a little closer.
The smaller shrubs and trees at the east end of Prince’s Island were all bent over in the direction of the river flow. The little fir trees looked healthy enough; they were just growing at an angle. Larger trees were fine, but you could see where some had been cut down, with stumps at odd angles. Much farther south, at the 1st Street SE underpass just south of 9th Avenue, there is a sign saying “During the storms last June, this underpass was completely flooded. Please support your Victoria Park neighbours and their businesses.”
It is good to see that Calgary has come back. Except for such indications as I noticed, it was hard to believe that everywhere I walked today (heck, the last few days also, during which I visited Sunnyside and Kensington as well) was under water last June.
You probably can’t see it right now for snowbanks, but there are high water marks all over the houses along Memorial Drive, too. When you see where the high water marks are, and where the river normally is (fairly far away and behind a serious berm), it kinds of brings it home, just how incredibly high that river got last June.
Merry Christmas, Everyone!
And, yes, I think the Winterlude Ottawa Dopefest needs to be an annual event. Time to start planning
