Yeah, I’m a bit crazy that way. Hell, I was driving through Quebec on the first day of the big ice storm in '98. Freezing rain really doesn’t bother me too much. Roads are mostly taken care of by the time I’m driving to work. I’m willing to trade 10 minutes of slow driving for 2 hours of shoveling any day.

I went skiing at Mont-Tremblant this past weekend. I went to the chalet at the top of the mountain, and they were still handing out pennies in change. Enough pennies already!

One less dinner guest for Michaëlle Jean.

I’m guessing that Stompin’ Tom is still dead.

I hear he will be guest starring on The Walking Dead this week.

You are crazy.

Groan.

I thought I’d throw a link to another thread suggesting an Ottawa DopeFest on May 11. Sadly, I can’t make that one, but maybe sometime…

happy St. Pat’s Day.

sure, and the wee leprechauns will be out walking today on their snow shoes, and the shamrocks pushing their heads through the three feet of snow.

I have a tax question (and possibly a rant) - Revenue Canada has decided that temps are now self-employed; does anyone have any idea how that will affect me? Since temp agencies already do the bare minimum required by law for temps, I have a bad feeling about this (like statutory holiday pay is going to disappear or something).

Speak with a tax accountant to see if you can now start deducting your business expenses (perhaps travel, for example), but don’t rely on my post, for I am an idiot when it comes to tax, and I can’t even count past twenty without being arrested for indecency.

Plus, RevCan does not get to define what counts as employee for the purposes of provincial employment standards laws. If an issue comes up, you could contact the employment standards office for advice.

Look into whether or not you want to participate in the EI regime.

Once they find the escaped prisoners who hijacked the helicopter, will the Quebec court let the pilot toss the mugs out of his helicopter from great height? I know that unfortunately the Ontario court would not.

How is that (those) prarie snowstorm (s) going? My parents left on Friday, did Heddingly MB to Swift current yesterday, then stopped and planned to stay there today. But they ended up driving with hopes of making Calgary today.

(tl:dr… I’m in Vancouver…how soon do I have to clean my bathroom and change the sheets?):stuck_out_tongue:

Heavy snow most of yesterday here in Regina, but they must have driven through it already. Has been snowing heavily again today since I woke up.

I just got an email. They stopped in Strathmore Alberta, when wind and blowing snow just wore them out. Newest idea is they are going to try to make Kelowna tomorrow, and visit with friends, then Tuesday afternoon roll on into Vancouver. The plan had been to go from MB to Medicine Hat yesterday, but the weather changed their plans.

I am kind of /sort of worried. Dad is not a great driver. Mom’s actually very good, and cautious but Dad second guesses her driving all the time. (His weird peripheral vision makes him think Mom is drifting in the lane.) I thought they were idiots for driving out this time of year (I didn’t drive across last year, we flew and got my car later) but in their mind I am either the crazy reckless teenager, or an overcautious worry-wart. Guess which it is when it comes to my 70 year old parents driving long distance across the praries in winter?

Ok, bathroom cleaned tomorrow night. (I mean its clean just doing the crazy mopping etc. I have two boys age 9 and 44.)

Revenue Canada doesn’t make that decision, parliament does. The CRA just tries to enforce it.

As a contractor that means you are ineligible for EI and you can deduct all reasonable expenses under the Income Tax Act.

We haven’t delved too deeply into it but that’s what my slides from tax class (taking now, so current) tell me. As to stat pay etc, I’m not sure.

Well, that doesn’t seem fair, since they’re still deducting EI premiums from my paycheques.

So who told you that temps are now self employed/contractors? I’d be looking into that for a variety of reasons (tax implications and EI being big ones to clarify). I could ask my prof if she’s heard of that, she works for the CRA during the day but it would be a couple days.

I received a notice with my T4 from my temp agency this year - it said, “As an “employment agency worker”, EI and CPP guidelines deem you to be an Employee; however, Income Tax guidelines deem you to be Self-Employed; therefore you must complete the T2125 form (see below).”

(Well, I guess that explains the EI part of it, kind of.) I should probably research this more on the Revenue Canada website or something. If you wanted to ask your prof, that would be fine by me, too.
