Congratulations on the house!

Congratulations on the house!
So out of curiosity I found a topo map of Saskatoon, and determined that the house is 17m higher in elevation than the Bessborough Hotel. That’d be one heck of a flood.
Senate would be nice. I understand there are some sort of allowances to pay for housing?
to qualify for Senate housing allowance:
buy house.
live in it.
There, was that so hard, Mike Duffy?
And Mr. Harb.
And Mr. Brazeau.
And Ms. Wallin.
Let’s face it, this shit has do doubt been going on forever.
And it’s about time we put a stop to it. It’s a drop in the bucket; no it’s a drop in the swimming pool, but the optics are bad and fer Christ’s sake, it’s taxpayers money, not yours!
No doubt, not do doubt.
Joni Mitchell tells Saskatoon to piss off.
Hey, my old stomping grounds!
That doesn’t surprise me too much - some artistic folk take themselves too damned seriously. I don’t quite understand what Saskatoon not honouring Ms. Mitchell properly has to do with her allegations that Saskatoon is a terribly bigoted place, though.
So much for naming the new south bridge after her.
Congratulations on the house, Gorsnak!
A museum dedicated to her would be the one thing beneficial to Saskatoon, a city of bigoted people. Remind me again why anyone would want to spend tax payer’s money to honor such a bitch?
I like Joni Mitchell’s music, though she can be quite… opinionated.
Next month I’ll be going to a benefit concert for the people of Lac-Megantic. The ticket was a good price, and it’s a worthy cause.
There’s a coffee buying crusade going on! Just when people think Canadians are a bunch of good-natured nice folk, we go and do this! ![]()
I think it’s a load of PR horseshit propagated by Tim Horton’s. When you think of the obscene retail markup on coffee, why wouldn’t you give that money to a soup kitchen, or anything more worthy?
Wow. Maybe you should switch to decaf.
Already have! More than one cup of the regular stuff a day makes my hands shake.
You could be right. I don’t think that Tim Horton’s has started this, but it could be. It could just be that everyone and their dog go to Tim Horton’s regularly, and everyone knows this. ![]()
As for the money being spent better somewhere else, it’s not a zero sum game. Making a whole bunch of people feel a little better about their day because they got a free cup of coffee from a stranger isn’t the worst thing that anyone has ever done in civilization. Sometimes when I’m shopping for groceries, I give the next person my cart and don’t ask for the quarter from the cart from them; I could put that quarter in a charity box instead, but I don’t; you don’t have to be a registered charity to do a good thing.
And I don’t disagree with that. But I think all the media coverage over it is both A) unnecessary; and B) curious. Tim Hortons is definitely hustling it on social media. Despite the fact that they apparently did nothing.
I don’t know. I’m just not feeling it. If someone paid two dollars for my morning Starbucks, my reaction would be “thank you, but that’s entirely unnecessary.” I don’t need or want someone’s charity.
I heard some guy just purchased and donated a house on Caswell Hill for use as a the new Joni Mitchell Museum.
That’s awesome! I wish we could find out who it is and thank him, but I guess he wants to remain anonymous. ![]()
Of course Tim’s will hustle it, it’s free PR that someone used them as a vector to add joy to (a whole bunch of) someone’s day. Did head office do it? Unlikely. They probably didn’t call in the media either, it’s possible someone tweeted it, or maybe someone from the news stops by there for their daily coffee, or the franchisee called the news or whatever. It’s a feel good story to lighten up the news to keep it from being unrelentingly depressing. Heck I’ve seen stories in the past about how the pay it forward of coffee for the person in drive thru behind you went for hours, the only difference is this was one guy vs a chain of people. Kinda wish it had happened when I worked there, it would have been fun to see people’s reactions.
As for someone paying for your coffee being charity, well it’s meant to be a little spot of unexpected joy in your day, not charity.
