The Case of the Missing MMP

I’ve been getting objectified a lot recently. Apparently my ass gets a lot of attention. Attention I did not know it got until very recently.

I kinda like it.

…as long as SOMEONE says something about my brain…

myyyyy braaaaain hurtssssss

I demand pictorial proof.

Hello, all. I have had a busy morning, removing/throwing out shit from kitchen cabinets etc. Didn’t even get online until 11am. Am also amazed at how much I got done in the morning w/o the internet.
I have bought some grout sealer and it will NOT rain this Saturday because I have decreed it. See that it doesn’t. You may go. <waves hand autocratically>
Top cabinets are clear–I forgot about the bottom ones! Eek. I must prepare myself that my life will be a shambles for one month. gah.
I am ignoring grad school today in hopes that it will either go away or that the anxious energy I am emitting by the ton will dissapate and leave room for the positive vibes of acceptance to enter. Or something like that. Work tomorrow–did you know it was possible for you to hemmorrhage money? We are, right now.

-still paying off trip expenses. (hubby still hasn’t figured out how to post pics and not let Joe Anyone come in and edit pics–dont’ ask me!)

-license plates/car stickers all due. Before you chuckle at that: plate fees in IL are $105. Ouch.

-8th grade graduation looms, as does Bday for #2 son.

–mortgage, summer school fees, next academic year fees, camp fees: all due.
Do I need to go on?

Off to garden awhile. It’s a beautiful day here.

rigs, seconding the beautiful day sentiment. It feels like one of those afternoons when I have to be out and about, “making sure everything runs smoothly”. :stuck_out_tongue:

mika, I don’t want to hear about busy, I have sent you an e-mail, and I am sitting here tapping my foot impatiently while you get back from Kinko’s and answer it…

taxi, I’m with your folks, I hope I never have to move again. I hates it. Hates it bad!!! But it sounds like they could have thought through how anyone can be there to help them a bit better, I agree.

Alrighty, lunch sits before me. I will commence chowing now…

Ha. Edit: Thanks, mika, just got your mail…

Rigs, sending positive vibes your way for the grad school acceptance. You will get in…I have decreed it! How’s THAT for autocratic?

License tabs out here in Washington state used to be absolutely outrageous. For example, I bought a 1997 Ford Explorer in 1998. Tab fees? Eight-hundred freakin’ dollars! The next year they came down to seven-hundred dollars. Then we passed Initiative 695. Lowered our tab fees considerably.

For example, we are now paying $108.00 for our one year old 20 foot boat. The tabs on my Explorer cost around $70.00. Much better!

taxi, I’m sending best wishes your way too. I know it’s a stressful time right now, new job, impending marriage, moving, and the parents moving, but it will all be fine. Frankly, it sounds like your parents ARE planning for the future because of the type of community they’re moving to.

Off to work some more.

I’ve no camera. You’ll get em after graduation, probably. That’s about 3 weeks. Hold your horses, missy.

800 bucks for licence tabs? Holy screaming dogshit are you kidding me? Is it because of the make and model of said vehicle or because you tried to overthrow the state legislature that one time?

Do they all get gloomy over the weather and just inflict it upon everything that moves into the DMV?

Most unfortunately, I am not kidding. Thus, the passage of I-695 by a huge, huge, lahar of a mudslide! We citizens had been screaming for years about the tabs and our legislature ignored us. Thank goodness for the initiative process out here in Washington state. Not all citizen initiatives are good, but I appreciated this one in a big way and voted a big fat YES on it.

There were vehicles which had tabs that cost way more than mine. The make, model and YEAR had the most to do with the cost of the tabs. However, when one is paying a few hundred dollars for a POS beater, that is ridiculous. They didn’t really depreciate a cars value in the proper way.

I’m sorry, but what is a license tab? Is that like yearly registration?

Yes, the little month and year stickers you put on your license plates.

I’m with loune on the “holy screaming doggie doot.” Cripes, we pay a sales tax when we buy the vehicle and then a registration fee. As far as plate renewal/tabs, mine is in the neighborhood of $30. Oh, and we don’t have inspections neither. Nyah! :stuck_out_tongue:

They are. It just seems that they’ve considered some factors, but not others like being near family or at least near an airport. If they’re going to move to a place where they don’t know anybody (and that’s not near anything significant), maybe they could at least consider moving close-ish to me, their only family. Or as I said, at least near a major airport.

Mom seems resigned to never seeing me again, but I’m just not happy with that choice. Maybe if it were 100 years ago and I were moving 1/2 way across the country, we’d have to accept never seeing each other. But it’s 2006 and we have options. I’m going to be living close enough to a major airport. But they’re going to East Bumblef*** and Mom’s doing this martyr thing about never seeing me again. Well then make a better decision and stop making me look like the bad guy. I have to go where the jobs are. They can go wherever. Why not pick a more accessible place??

Because that would take all the fun out of the martyr act. taxi, I’m sorry about where your parents are moving. That sounds like a foolish decision. Are you an only child?
I’m making something. It’s got fresh thyme branches on the bottom, then chicken breasts with garlic cloves tucked in around them, then fresh baby spinach, then mozzarella, with marinara sauce poured over it. I’m hoping it works. I want to be able to cut it up and have sort-of chicken parm sandwiches over the weekend. I figure it should be done in an hour, hour and a half.

Attacks Husband is off to Arizona for a week with his family. i hope he leaves his brother behind. His brother is useless and smells funny, and AT can use the extra luggage to bring back more TJ’s goodies.

Glad to read that other people have useless inlaws. I swear mine could be taken to an alien world and I would never notice.
Not nice? Ah, well–the disillusionment had to come sometime.

And Mr Plasterer for #1 estimate is late. Grrr.

I made a mistake at work. A minor one. I have to duplicate a ton of things and send them out to two places every Friday, and I switched the labels on the packages so they went to the wrong places. So, instead of asking me about it, someone went over my head to my boss. Bitch…we are all totally swamped here, and you just have to deal with it! And what about all the times you’ve screwed up in the last year?

Not to mention I thought she was my friend and at least would have the courtesy to let me know she was going to get me in trouble. Thankfully, my boss understands but what a mean thing to do. I was in a relatively good mood, even swamped, and now I’m all irritated and unhappy. :frowning:

taxi re: the parents. You’re going to have to let them go off on their own. If they are going to be in the middle of nowhere, at least they have enough foresight to choose and assist living place. And think about it - getting to them from Minnesota is going to take a day anyway no matter if they are their or where they are now. The legal, medical, etc decisions can be made by you over the phone, or by fax or email. You can give the place they are going to limited power of attorney for medical and emergency decisions. They’ll be fine. Concentrate on what yyou have to do now, not what might happen sometime in the future for them.

the obvious answer is you have to overcome your nature and play the office politics game with her. Next time she makes a mistake, tell her boss.

Part of our revolt was because not only were we paying a sales tax when we bought the vehicle (which is right and fair), we paid the outrageous registration/tab fee in addition, then the huge registration fee every year after that. We have inspections on vehicles that are over a certain age (five years, I think). We pay for those too.

Crap! I’ve got another useless meeting to attend.

Michigan’s license tabs are rather palatable when compared to Washington. It’s about a hundred here, but you also need proof of insurance. No inspections here, though (unlike New York).

Our tabs are palatable NOW. Technically, the initiative meant our tabs were only supposed to cost $30.00 per year. But, there’s this little tax, and that little tax (Regional Transit Authority, etc). But, I’d still rather pay on average of $100.00 per year than $800.00 per year. So, I’m not complaining, now, at all.

We are also required to carry proof of insurance with us at all times.
