The chicken and the pig

Ok, fess up. How many of you clicked on this, thinking it said “The chicken and the EGG”?

No, this is a poll of people’s preference for chicken versus ham. Personally, I consider ham to be one of the foods of the gods, while chicken is just chicken. My GF, on the other hand prefers chicken, which is a mindset I just can’t encompass. So, I’m wondering which is more common.

Given a choice, with no cost involved and calories not a factor, which would you choose? Ham or, to keep it simple, plain old roast chicken?

I’d choose roast chicken over ham most days, but if we were talking about a choice between roast pork (with crackling) and roast chicken, the choice would be harder, make it a corn-fed chicken and I would be paralysed by indecision.

Can’t I have a bit of both please?

I must admit I don’t like ham. It has to do with my mother’s cooking. Ham was always salty leather with pineapple flavoring.

I have no such chicken prejudice as my father forbade chicken in the house when I was growing up.

Now a yummy chicken breast with barbecue sauce, shredded cheese, bacon and scallions! That’s yummy!

I thought that this was going to be a thread about cross species viral infections in Southeast Asia. That said, I like both fowl and swine. Really depends on the mood. Chicken is best when you want the food to have the flavor of the seasonings; pork is best for the flavor of the actual meat.

Chicken Cordon Bleu, anyone?

Nope. I thought that it was either about a pub in the UK or an Aesop’s fable.

Bacon! Bacon bacon bacon! With pigs you get bacon. With chicken you get… chicken. What’s the problem here? Pigs win, hands down.

I like both equally well, actually. Having to choose between the two would be like trying to figure out which of my testicles I’d want to keep after an accident.

No ham, green or otherwise. Ham is my last choice in meats or food, so I’ll take chicken any day.

However…
mmm… bacon. The smell of bacon frying in the morning. Crisp bacon on a hamburger. Bacon and eggs… scrambled… oh, wait, we’re back to chickens again. Let’s see, ranking them:

  1. Bacon and Eggs
  2. Bacon and chicken sandwich
  3. Bacon cheeseburger
  4. Eggs, without the bacon
  5. Chicken - cooked any ol’ way
    .
    .
    .
  6. Macaroni and cheese
    .
    .
    .
  7. Skipping one meal
    .
    .
    .
    9,482. Ham

(skipping 2 meals, on the other hand, is much lower than this.)

I thought it would be funny …to get to the other pork side or something.

What a gyp!

Aw, quit griping. :stuck_out_tongue: How do you think I feel? I ask a simple “A or B” question, and what do I get for answers?
C!
A + B!
F!
Tuesday!

At least no one’s said 42, yet. (Emphasis on the ‘yet’. )

My own fault, I suppose. I’ve read enough threads to know what to expect. Let me try this again.

You’re on a six hour boat ride. Dinner is being served. You have two, and ONLY two, choices. Each comes with whatever side dishes you like, but there are no substitutions for the main entree.

Baked Ham - whatever variation you prefer, because they’re all basically the same (Country style, sugar cure, smoked, whatever) - whatever your favorite glaze is will automagically have been used

or

Roast Chicken - whatever portion of the chicken you happen to prefer (leg, breast, beak, whatever) - whatever your favorite herbs/seasonings are will automagically have been used

No other cooking methods are available. No other recipes are available.

May I take your order?

I’ll have the chicken please…

Chicken, definitely the chicken.

I loves me some yummy chicken. Ham is… eh.

YES!, kill the puppy!.. um, press the button!..errrr… what were the choices again?

Chicken - breast please, skinless.

I like them both, depending on what I’m in the mood for. However, I did stop eating ham for awhile after I saw a calendar at the Heavenly Ham store with pictures of adorable baby pigs on it.

42!

Being a vegetarian (probably wrong thread for me to gain any love, but you know…), given the “six hour boat ride” scenerio I’d have to hope for good sides, or just deal with a Coke or something, etc.

However, of all meat, the only kind I ever miss is ham.

So you get your B answer. And coming from a vegetarian, I think that should count as two votes or something.

Aren’t we allowed to fish over the side of the boat? I could fancy a nice mackerel.

Stan: Yeah. And you know? I think I learned something today, it doesn’t matter if you’re Christian or Jewish or Atheist or Hindu. Christmas still is about one very important thing.

Cartman: Yea, ham!
