Why do you some of you feel the need to ask “If school is out yet”, or if it’s a fucking holiday. I find it annoying, and I suspect most of the young people here do. The good majority of these jackasses that come here and pollute the board with immature moronic trolls are returning people, or people(young and old) who just don’t clue in and get themselves banned.

The majority of the teens that regualarly post are often commended for their higher level of maurity and wisdom in comparison of other people of their ages. And they’re usually mistaken for much older people until they reveal their age. That’s a sign that immaturity on the boards doesn’t neccesarily equal youth.

In the summer, most people are having vacations, taking more days off, etc. It’s not just the youth that have more free time. The same applies with other major holidays of that sort.
My point is: Maturity in posts is not a good indication of age, and to accuse most immature posts of being made by a young person is unfair to the intelligent young people of this board.

I agree that their is a troll spike at the start of those periods. However, it’s not just the youth that have more time during the holidays either. Some trolls may very well be kids, but I find it ridiculous when people will pipe up with “Is it a school holiday?” whenever they find a OP immature or moronic to them.

I’m no longer of the age that is eligible for school-based vacations, but I find this annoying too, as I do with most of the overused catchphrases that plague the SDMB and the Internet in general. Yes we get some teenaged trolls at those times of the year, but at least they go away. It’s the older trolls you have to worry about, they stick arround forever, and are much more pathetic.

To render what Sublight said in a more direct mode, it’s not that people think that teens are often trolls, but that they recognize that many trolls are teens. Having recently complimented you in passing (I knew you were young from previous comments, but not how young, and it surprised me) in the Teens thread in MPSIMS, I know you have the insight to see the distinction: as a community, we value all our contributing members, and age has little to do with it (especially when, as I noted, that rather wise middle-aged man who answered you turns out to be a wise-beyond-his-years teenage boy). But there are an ongoing subset of humanity that have no idea how to behave in public situations such as this board, and they are annoying regardless of age. The fact that some of them are immature teens and some are immature adults only comes to play in that the former of those two groups tend to get bored and look for somewhere to cause trouble at vacation times and such.

Your main point is quite solid; kindly do not let the fact that you happen to share a demographic with the younger members of the offending group serve to be an insult towards you personally – the rest of us are quite capable of distinguishing between a mature, wise poster and an immature, self-centered idiot, and the fact that the former may be 14 and the latter 25 is immaterial.

Because Aslan2 if you have been a member of message boards, chat rooms and other places for longer than a year, you would see the spike in bullshit, usually from teens that aren’t in a job and doing productive things in their life or whatever

They feel the need to spew a lot of bullshit, a lot. Many get banned, many think they are cute and the boards (even in other places) member’s up in arms.

It’s just annoying as hell. If people want respect, act like they are their age rather than little people with nothing better to do than create issues.

I don’t know what made you desire to post this but it’s usually during fall break, winter break, spring break and then throughout the summer where the SDMB experiences teens that think it’s cute to be assholes and create havoc on here. It’s not just here I have seen it on other message boards and of course in chat rooms.

The thing that ticks me off most is the A/S/L or asl that the teens do. It was “cute” in 1995 but I usually tell those that say that, I am probably old enough to be your mother, which really ticks the little shit off. I can’t tell you the amount of times I have had a teen take the question they asked of asl and told them I am probably old enough to be their mother where they invent a complete tirad and are all pissed at me. But generally, it’s the truth. It’s such a stupid question and frankly, the teen girls that do this (if they are real) are fucking stupid.

Look, I if I need to know the age of those people I would go to a place that makes sense. This teeny-bopper attitude on the net sometimes drives me to wanting to kill bunnies.

If you act like an immature teen, one will be treated as such, and even teens who have some sense of decorum will fuck with them. I crack up at that as I find it funny.

You are an adult, act like one. Don’t act like you are 6 years old. Teens today really throw me off. Not all but a good majority I run across on the internet are horribly unequiped. They aren’t willing to type out a sentence without bullshit like “1 wont u 2 no that my a$$ is hurtin cuz i been 0n m7 s3at 4 h0urs.”

Fuck that. Speak in English, assuming English is your first language but this net speak is really fucked up and annoying as hell. Also, know that if a teen comes across as a complete dumb ass, he/she will be called out on it.

If you want to be part of the SDMB, you need a level of maturity and understanding that this is a community filled with people that don’t enjoy bullshit. From the mods to the members. People like to know they are dealing with real humans, not some teenybopper that wants to drive by with bullshit.

This is one of very few places I have been to where you cannot, in a matter of a few paragraphs/minutes, figure out how old someone is and be correct 75%+ of the time. Most of the people who come here and act like jerks are fairly young. It didn’t offend me when I was a teenager to hear “school’s out” again because I have seen precisely this phenomenon before. However, what did get me pissed off was when people would (almost invariably) assume that because I was young I was therefore stupid, naive, etc (the two have nothing to do with each other;)).

And on a site note, I’d like to point out that two of the SDMB’s most well-known trolls are very much not teenagers.

Aslan - age doesn’t really have much to do with assholishness - you will find jerks of every age.

However, that being said, in my experience, some teens find things humourous that adults tend not to. You know - l33t, ass jokes, trolling comments - a Bevis and Butthead sort of mentality.

Genearlly these foks grow out of it. I’m not saying that there are no adults that act like they’re 12 - there are just more 12 year olds that act that way.

That’s why I suspect many trolls are teachers and school administrators. After a few months of having to be mature and a good example you’d want to blow off some steam, too.

You know, I’m fairly close to being in the age group that should be offended here. Hell, when I registered, I was part of it. These things don’t offend me one whit.

See, I know junior high and high school students. I was one fairly recently. I’m currently living with one. And I know that there is a sizeable percentage of people in that age group who lack any maturity whatsoever. They were the ones who annoyed me back when I was in high school, and they still annoy me today.

In other words, as I failed to state earlier, the phrase is more a comment on the maturity of the poster rather than a blanket statement about kids. And, yes, children are immature. They have yet to mature. That’s the whole point of growing up.

You come home from work one day and your house is TP’ed. Who do you suspect is the culprit? Some “snot-nosed” teens causing trouble or the fun loving Shriners from down the lodge?

As stated before it’s not that all teens are trolls, just that a lot of trolls turn out to be teens.

However:

It’s more like this: Not all teens are trolls, but most trolls have the maturity of most teenagers, sometimes because they are teens. Most trolls don’t last very long enough for us to find out such things like age(or if they do, they don’t).

And dropzone, I like your theory. It would make sense as to why a normal human being would act like that.

It’s a sort of twisted optimism at play, actually. Assuming trolls and garden-variety morons are adolescents contains a hoping that it’s something the people responsible will grow out of.

Accepting that idiocy and trollage is pretty much evenly distributed across all demographics is depressing to really contemplate.

Eh, sometimes that ‘School’s out’ comment is merited. Some assholery reeks of teenager, sometimes it reeks of something else entirely. I for one adore the teens who come onto the boards to contribute positively. I even get a bit upset when some little troll comes along and tries to give them a black eye.

I agree that some (likely) teen trolls are different from other trolls. Usually more spelling/grammatical errors.
